chris the buds on mine are just opening my older dog has stopped leap frogging over it caught him in mid leap naughty boy xx

have bought some vasellene today to go around cheery tree, there my cherries not ants and wot nots.

im going to thin some carrots tomorrow, have a hessian sack for them. :-D

i thinned my carrot seedlings yesterday, so i have 2 buckets full and enough to put some potted on my charity stall, i bubble wrapped my peach tree last night for the fear of frost, sweet corns are nothing yet , i have some nemphisis spelling flower seedlings, then i have a few tubs with you guess veg in the little bits of packet disapeared , but i will find out soon i guess

was wondering wether to put the carrot seedlings out yet and my runner beans which are at there first hurdle ? :-D

oh iv bitten the bullet and last 3 days iv sorted my back garden and shed out, 4 wheelie bins later and i was ready to, pot and seed

cabbage
lettuce
tomatoes
beans
lettuce
onions
radishes,

sunflowers
pansys
blue things, tht mam told me of for,as i was to early to plant them
whte stuff
pink pretty things
and some magnolias

5 big pots, and 60 little tiny ones, all with little seeds in hoping they grow,

did i do good?

and i cut all my 4 lawns

Good on you gal - done well. Make sure you keep them warm when winter returns on Monday. Where are they? Not outside, I hope :-0

Stray do not, repeat, do NOT dig the seeds up to see if they have rooted, most of them will take well over two weeks, maybe over three to germinate. Lettuc will probably be the quickest if you planted it.

A friend told me last year that lettuce like to germinate at lower temperatures which could explain why I had found problems with germinating them in a hot summer.

We have most problem with germinating carrot seeds which can be very patchy. I cover them with a fleece to stop the sun baking them and water regularly but I think they prefer rain

To keep the mice away from pea and sweetcorn seeds I sow them in gutters in the greenhouse to plant out later

With the price of sweetcorn seed ,i now start mine off in
the greenhouse ,in plastic vending cups, £1 for 60 in the pound store ,after putting small holes in the bottom with a stanley knife [watch the fingers]
Any seed planted in these are easy to transplant using the bulb planter that you can get anywhere ,[and the cups are reusable],this means that when you transplant ,the roots are not disturbed,and plants tend to grow on far better.
Up north here it is far too early to plant Parsnip ,or Carrot which like a warm soil to germinate easily but as K says an ideal time to plant lettuce ,such as Cos ,which is pretty weather hardy :-).Fred.

had a lovely day yestreday sat in my rocker, im sure i saw grass grow, been putting my runners out for the day time sun then back in at night, im hoping that the seedlings i have growing without identification soon show me there true meaning, i know what ive got but dont know which is which just yet, i will take pictures and email them,

I grow about 60 sweetcorn plants so rather too many for cups but actually start germination on damp kitchen paper by the Rayburn in the kitchen and when I am sure they have started to sprout I plant them in the gutters. (I plant out before the roots merge)

Don't know how far north you are Badger but in Herefordshire I resist starting them off until the beginning of May, although it is so tempting start before.

Last year wiped out all our over wintered spring greens but this year they survived even the cauliflowers :-)

Ooooop in the frozen north i isss ,at least ,so my sister used to say.Newcastle Upon tyne he he so i tend to use the old gardeners adage ,[neeeer cast a clout ,till may is out ] though ,what a clout is ,i have no idea ;-).
Corn seeds ,wow ,you have one heck of a size garden then ,i'm afraid i had to give my allotments up after heart surgery ,and now ,with arthritis in the hips ,i am down to a small veggie patch .
I suppose that in all i must use about 140 cups all told to start all my seedlings in.but even in allotment days i used the same method,but i grew most of my stuff for showing ,i wasn't so fussy with the food side of things .
I now grow a dozen ,Brussel,a couple of rows of cabbage ,a couple of barrels with my tatties in,enough for the missus and me ,to not have to buy much in the way of veggies,and it keeps me active.
Your idea of the damp kitchen roll is simular to the way i started my leek pods in my show days ,transfering the pods to cups first ,then to bigger cups ,to pots and then bigger pots,until the leeks went into the trench in early june.all that work for two shows ,he he ,i must have been barmy :-D.

Yes the veg garden is quite large but do have a small holding. We grow in deep beds which make things easy as we dig manure in the pot beds each year and just hoe the rest so its not too bad in terms of work.

We do really need to cut back as both of us creak. Any waste goes to our friends down the road who keep pigs. Last year was amazing for peaches and our small tree had over 500. I am praying for more rain this year to avoid a hosepipe ban.

where as i just sow straight into the soil ;-)

That's what i would call ,strict radishinoning .lol. radish always do well ,wether in a row ,or broadcast close together ,luvvvvelly stuff with my salads,Fred.

It takes time to learn Joy, when she has absorbed the knowledge she will then get enthusuastic and there will be no holding her. Will there stray?
