well ive won a polytunnel for 42.00 very big, so that will house some plants till jack frost has gone, can you think of any plants that would thrive in shaded orchard like garden.

ive planted some seeded spuds, i always do this when ever they have seeded and get a nice crop, i may try sweet corn 4 yrs ago i had about 8 that had beautiful corn, we moved in this house 3 yrs ago 2 yrs ago the corn did nothing but rot/

I am getting better at researching. but some times its hard and i prefer listening to experience. :-D

We have decided to have pots outside the apartment and of course herbs as usual (I use masses in cooking). We are sheltered from the wind although only 300 yds from the sea. We may put a solar powered water feature by our door so we can hear it when the windows are open..lol

The house garden will be mostly gravelled and everything will be grown in pots, including the miniature fruit trees, can't be doing with grass that needs cutting. Hoping to divide it into seasonal sections so we can enjoy it all year round.

I can manage raised beds so that's a consideration for veg as well as plants. I have a programme which plans a garden and you can view it planted up so that will take the guesswork out of choosing plants.

All our planters are with Pickfords but will get extra for here, they are so cheap now.

I like to put florence fennel and carrots in a few odd places in flower beds as the ferny leaves blend in well .cant wait for spring ...............

As it was so mild today I thought I would make a start on some weeding and was amazed at how much cleaver had reared it's ugly head.

Also planted some tomato seeds and re-potted my mint's.

Knees and back are killing me even though I've had a long soak in the bath.

:-D :-D :-D

Mick what's silver beet?
I know beetroot and sugar beet and something we call C0te de bettes(Swiss chard) but I've never heard of Silver beet. I suppose it's a root vegetable.

Just popping on for a few minutes, as I am busy sewing up all my crocheting though keeping my eye on what is being posted, and I cannot resist the gardening thread.
As many of you know, we are fortunate enough to have an allotment, where OH grows all the fruit, veggies, potatoes, and soft and hard fruits.
But, I thought I would make myself a 'Living Salad Bar', up at home, for when we get those hot days, and cannot be bothered cooking a full dinner, and I can just pop outside and grab a handful of this and a handful of that.
Just outside the back door, I have a trellis which divides my garden into 'rooms'. My idea is to screw onto this, four lightweight troughs, two above the other two. Into these I propose to grow all kinds of Salad leaves, Baby Beetroot, Spring Onions, Garlic, .Small varieties of Chillies and Peppers, Radishes, some baby Sweetcorns, and anything else I can think of that goes into a salad. With staggered sewing I should be able to keep us going all summer.
I already grow the Tomatoes down the garden in my greenhouse, and the herbs in pots, against where I am going to put the Salad bar. Even if whilst this year is trial and error on yield, at least I will have penty of greenery to look at.
Just thought I would share this idea with you, in case anyone else is of a similar mind.
