Is the evil ladies maid Thomas's mother? I had not realised they were related. Tragedy is hinted at this week.

'Emma' Report 14 Oct 2011 11:08

Are you sitting comfortably BC, then I'll begin.....

Mathew and William went missing and while they
had a concert at Downton they walked in. Bates
has returned, Mathew's mother went to France cause
she was falling out with Lady Grantham, while she was
away her housekeeper and manservant started a soup
kitchen for soldiers and the cook at Downton started to give them food
and Thomas' mother thought they were stealing the food and selling it
so she told Lady Grantham thinking they would get into trouble but her
ladyship agreed with them and stayed to help and made Thomas' mother
help also. One of the servant girls got the sack as she was found in bed with an Major, came back sometime later to ask for help as she is pregnant.

BC not in that order but potted history, :-D

I am furious because I had visitors on Sunday and forgot to record it. When I use the Ithingy player it doesn't synch properly so I gave up! Can some nice person do a brief run down of what happened? :-) ps I don't like Matthew at all...he has those fishy eyes....

Julian Fellowes creator of Downton Abbey has hinted there
will only ever be three series of the show.
First series started towards the end of the Edwardian era,
second to be set during WW1 and the third in the 1920s.

Has anyone heard Nightingale Wood?

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 12 Oct 2011 12:48

Well said Rita, some great dramas could be given an airing
from long ago.
I was a great fan of 'I Claudius' and others you have mentioned.

Not on television, but can be heard again on i player:

Nightingale Wood
In this sparkling pre-war comedy of manners, the young, widowed and pretty Viola Wither finally has the chance to escape her stifling in-laws in Essex. Whilst they are spending a month in the Lakes, she and her sister-in-law Tina escape to Stanton on Sea. Viola is still pining for the dashing Victor Spring - who has kissed her - and Tina for the beautiful chauffeur, Saxon - likewise. But is it all hopeless?

Morning all,

I am such a push over for Downton, love it, love it, love it.
Took me by surprise last night when they sang 'If you were
the only girl in the world' my fathers favourite song, he used
to sing it to mum and myself, so even at my age it brought a
tear to the eye and happy memories. Daft old bat.

That Thomas needs to be taken down a peg or two, why is he
being allowed to interfere with the household staff, nasty piece
of work, now Bates is back its sure to get more heated, looks good
for next weeks episode.

Vera2010 Report 4 Oct 2011 15:43

I usually have 40 winks and then when I wake up its alll over. Thought Sundays was a bit far fetched. 'As if' they would put that Thomas in charge and of what. Couldn't work that one out. And as for someone saying he was
an injured soldier and then promoting him. I think not. I do love that evil ladies maid.

Not miuch happening on the non-romance between daughter of the house and the doctor/officer. Look forward to next week and although I could record its not the same.

Totally agree with you Chris re ads. Lots of people are
going to record because of them, when ads are on, for me
I play the Nintendo DS till they are over.

ChrisofWessex Report 4 Oct 2011 13:06

Well according to press yesterday Downton is losing viewers this week especially because of the amount of ads. Sunday was ridiculous - they even banged ads in just before the end and then after a further 3 mins of drama it was finished. In future I shall record.

'Emma' Report 4 Oct 2011 10:45

from in the dark months its difficult to see them all even
though OH records a lot for me.

Yes, I read that about the next series of New Tricks, a great shame; it is one of my favourite programmes, too :)

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 3 Oct 2011 11:53

hadn't heard that about Jean Marsh, also a great fan of Upstairs
Downstairs. Hope she recovers soon, heard that James Bolem
is not going to take part in the next series of New Tricks, pity
cause that is another programme I like.

I am pleased that you enjoyed it :)

Concerning a similar type of programme, Upstairs, Downstairs, I have read that Jean Marsh has had a minor stroke and the script is being rewritten as she will not be able to be in the first episodes. Hope she recovers well. -
