As well as the parents who are not interested in their kids at any time of the year, I wonder how many parents are abroad on holiday having left their teenagers "home alone" so to speak and who have no idea what they have been up to? And I'm not just talking about the middle or upper classes either.

We've all heard the stories of parents coming back after just one night out to find their teenage son or daughter has organised a party that has got out of control and the house has been trashed.

Some of these people ought to thank their lucky stars they live here with free education, free healthcare and money from the government to help. No-one needs to steal or loot or to trash their own neighbourhood for the sake of a few mobile phones or trainers.

They should stop whingeing about what this country can do for them and start to think what they can do for their country.

Thank you Hayley for your most magnanimous post.

yes ice a small minority were working people ,and they should be ashamed of themselves.but the larger group its got to be said were teenagers, what thehell does the country owe them?what have they done for their country?do they realise that they have cost this country billions?and its going to cost them in the long run,how dare they destroy peoples livelyhoods, livelyhoods that have taken yrs of hard slog to build up,and for what? so some mindless moron can burn it to the ground and windge "that we have nothing so nor should they"animals all of them. :-(

Suzanne Report 10 Aug 2011 22:24

its really p-----g me off.children of 10 and 11yrs old should be in bed at 10 and 11pm at night and not throwing stones at police men and looting shops, and yes their parents should be charged for child neglect.myselfand a few others hold the same opinion but we are getting shouted down from one or two members for thinking our kids are angels,no ivenever thought my kids were angels but at the age of 10 and 11 i always knew where they were, tucked up in bed where they belonged.x
