watched the sky interview with the three looters, and i have to say that i was embarrassed for them, embarrassed because they were so thick.
A shop keeper wont let them off with 1p so they rob his shop,
CVs regected (probably because they dont have the brain power to have a job) so they rob the shop as payback?.when my son started work 6yrs ago he had 97 CVs rejected in three months and he has 11GSEs,did he go on the rob because he had been rejected ?of course not,he just done the normal thing and carried on and in the end he got a job.its hard for everyone in britain today.x

Not so very long ago Cameron was asking us all to "Hug a Hoodie"....

Pamela, you are absolutely right, If I want to listen to a load of tripe,I,ll go to the Local Butchers,at least its fresh. How many times has he spoken out on things and then backed down because little Cleggy does,nt like it? many times, and until he asserts his authority and tells him to put up or shut up,nothing will happen because he is afraid.**M**

Here's an insightful article on the riots, written by a reporter who was there. I found it excellent and says what I've been saying all along, it's a fashionable trend to fight police. It's basic disrespect for the structures within our society. Anyway enough said, read for yourselves...

There's an interesting bit further down:
'But hoodies are more defensive than offensive. They're a way to stay invisible in the street. In a dangerous environment the best thing to do is keep your head down, blend in." (my comment:: And hope you're not caught on CCTV!)

McNulty's response:
'People have rights, of course, and we need to do all we can for them in that regard, but they also have responsibilities," he told the BBC.

My comment: As I said before - the responsibility bit was conveniently forgotten!!

That's not to say some children/families need help, but it's hard to help a foul mouthed swaggering numpty who thinks that. because he/she has 'rights' the world owes him everything on a plate!!!!

The saddest cases must surely be the ones we don't hear about - those too frightened/young to say anything.

Things you wish you hadn't said?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/5163798.stm

"In a speech on social justice, Mr Cameron claimed teenagers who hide under hooded tops are trying to "blend in" rather than appear threatening.

Hooded tops - known as hoodies - have come to be viewed by some as a symbol of social disorder.

Earlier Mr Cameron told BBC Breakfast he was still tough on crime. "Of course people who commit crime should be held responsible.

" Adult society's response to the hoodie shows how far we are from finding the long-term answers to put things right

David Cameron"

"But I think people want their politicians to ask the question: 'What is it that brought that young person to commit that crime at that time? What's the background to it, what are the long-term causes of crime?'

"If you're ill, it's no good putting a sticking plaster on it. You've got to get to the bottom of the illness.

"Let's try and understand what's gone wrong in these children's lives and we'll find it's about family breakdown, it's about drugs, it's about alcohol abuse, often it's young people who are brought up in care when they should be in loving homes. "

maggiewinchester Report 13 Aug 2011 00:33

In my opinion, the rot set in when children were told they had 'rights'.
No-one bothered to tell them that, with 'rights,' came responsibility.
Mind you, I have no idea how a 7 year old can have responsibility!

Anyhoo - many children/teenagers appear to have used the 'rights' thing as a threat against their parents and an argument to be allowed to do what they wanted.

Well, the 'responsibility' bit is coming home to roost for many!!

Sorry, Pamela, I read that literally rather than ironically. I have read the other thread and posted on the original generalisation thread. I've probably read too many posts, on various forums, that said similar stuff to your post, but were serious. Again, my apologies for reading it wrong.

Hi Suzanne,

What is the policy, for a national of another country, whom has settled in the UK , who will qualify to claim a prescribe benefit or any other public funds? :-D

Nannylicious

Nannylicious Report 12 Aug 2011 21:59

ChAoTic: of course they wouldn't I was being ironic (see separate thread on this subject).

Well, a bed is roughly 6' x 4' 6" and some are confined to that for most of their day if they are in a geriatric hospital.

Speaking of which, I'm off to mine now.

;-)

WTF is deleting posts?

Sue's wasn't at the top earlier.

Pamela would our senior citizens also want to be locked in a 6x6 room for 23 hours a day.

Disclaimer - 6x6 may be slightly wrong, I've never been with a tape measure to find out for sure.

Just had an idea.......

Our elderly are often the forgotten generation - sometimes mistreated, sometimes not fed, sometimes lonely.

Prisoners get 3 square meals a day, TV, games, etc. and they are closely monitored.

Let's swap the prisons and the care homes around!

Elderly = we are thankful for the little we get"

Now that belonged on Rose's thread.

Hate to agree with the latest D Cameron speech but all he is saying is what people want to hear , but Untill we bring back the respect for other people and their property things will never get better. There is no deterent these days with all this human rights stuf, what about the human rights of people who have had property vandalised etc. It all starts at home and at school, allow corporal punishment allow teachers to teach and to reprimand unruly pupils without the fear of being dragged before the human rights brigade, The system we use with punishing juvinile offenders ie, caution, community service , asbo's are just like medals and is just hardening them up ready for a holliday in jail. The experience of jail should be geared to make them NOT want to go back in there.

With you there Pamela.

No one mentions the £12 billion our gold reserves would now be worth if Dear Gordon Brown hadn't sold it at rock bottom prices when he was chancellor ....the truth can sometimes be highly inconvenient though I think..

And with that i'm going to disappear for a while before I really blow a gasket...I've had my fill of apologists and hand wringers on the TV and I'm in too foul a mood as a result to do anything but rant now so I'm going to go and play Risk with the girls and bid for world domination........I could be a while :-D
