Hi all,

Weather causing a problem here. It's 22 C and dark and overcast. Parts of the island have been flooded in thunder storms but we haven't seen any rain or heard the thunder. We have a 90% chance of a storm this afternoon.

OH just gone out to take some paperwork to a friend who wanted it printed otherwise we are in for the rest of the day so whatever the weather we should be ok.

Bob have you thought of a 6 month let from perhaps April until September. Children/grandchildren can always join you at holiday times. This could be a toe in the water to see how your OH copes away from London.

Many grandparents out here see more of their grandchildren here than UK as they turn up all the school holidays and stay. Had 1 grandmother I know stopped living abroad because she felt guilty about not seeing her grandchildren all the time. She has now been back in UK 3 years and is considering living overseas again - why - because her children/grandchildren are too busy to visit her. They found plenty of time to holiday with her though.

It's quiet on the tourist front here but it'll soon be busy again with the Christmas holidays. Out here they celebrate Christmas and Epiphany (25th Dec and 6th Jan). The Epiphany is the most religious one.

Today the sky is red and blue / grey . I just hope that it stays dry.

My sisters have never lived anywhere else, even when I wanted to go to Canada. Then Austrailia. How, at times do I wish that I had gone Canada/ Austrailia,
Why do so many People, especially those who left the UK to live elsewhere and then be somewhat angry, upset that foreigns go to the UK?

How ever I am proud to be English, but sad that so many of us will most likely not live there again....visiting yes, but that is all.

we left the UK 6 days after our marriage in 1967.

we went first to Texas for 1 year, the remainder of OH's contract.

We then decided we were not ready to go "home", for him to try to get a decent job there .......... so he got a job up here in Canada, an excellent job that allowed him to do what he loved to do ...................


it felt like home as soon as we arrived here, so we've never left. I also got a job that I loved and kept for over 30 years until I took early retirement in 2000


We have spent time in Australia and in New Zealand on sabbaticals, and enjoyed them both

We've now been here 46 years, had only one child, a daughter who now lives in another part of Canada ............. and it is an 8 hour plane trip to visit her


It takes almost as long, and costs much more, than if she lived in England or Europe :-S



Still, neither of us have ever regretted leaving England, neither of us have ever felt homesick or had any desperate urge to visit ................. we occasionally think wistfully of a little country pub in Devon that we used to know, but that is as far as it goes.


I've often thought that if we did have to move from Canada, we would not go back to England, nor to the US ..................... NZ and cooler parts of OZ are much more attractive.



I had 5 female cousins who emigrated to OZ with their respective families under the £10 scheme back in the 60s, one of them never settled and longed to go back to England, although she did appreciate that her husband had a much better job and made much more money than he ever would have back "home", and that her children were settled.


Finally, she and her husband managed to have a long trip back to England around 1980 .................... and realised just how much England had changed since she left.

She realised there was no going back ..................... but requested that her husband take her ashes back after she died, and spread them on the Lancashire Moors. He did that 3 months after her death.

We have been promising ourselves that we would move away from London ever since we married, (second time for both of us, three kids between us) but she has always come up with excuses. Now that we are retired and in the perfect position, London house paid for, good pension, kids all off hand etc. she still won't do it. I have given serious consideration to going it alone. Bob

Uzzi isn't it surprising how popular we are. Still can't put my finger on why though. ;-)

We've have just shut down we think for the winter, start up with visitors next April. Unless the phone rings and someone says - 'hope you've room as we've just booked our flights out to see you' :-D

Hello everybody

I am still in chilly but sunny Spain. As you all know I moved from the campsite 18mths ago to bricks and mortar in Los Alcazares. We still have no intentions of returning to the UK even though having a separate 2 bed flat upstairs we have seen more of OH´s family in the last 18mths than we saw in the previous 10yrs ! :-0.
I love Alcazares as we are walking distance to everything I need (including the beach) yet it is still quiet except for the loud bangs !!


Bob my Dad lived in France and loved it, he did occasionally have trouble with the local laws but adored the people. My step mum couldn´t leave there fast enough after his death tho´ . Not as cheap as it used to be mind.

I am now getting the flat ready for a 6wk visit from my Mother-in-law ,,,(yikes ! :-S) then the day she flies home the 2 sister in laws fly out.

Our postage to UK is 66c which at the moment means cheaper, just, than 2nd class in UK. Costs them about £1.00 from UK to here. Mind you Bon Marche order (order not item) sent out here is only £6.00 post and package.

21 C today and mainly sunny.

Bob go for it, you'll only keep saying 'if only' to yourself if you don't try. It's better to try and fail than never to have tried.

We've been here 9 years now and we are still enjoying ourselves so intend to stay. :-D

I have been trying to talk my wife into moving to Australia. I would probably miss her, but what the heck.....
But seriously, I would move to France tomorrow. Civilized country and people, good cheap wine and excellent food. I wonder if I could rent a small place there on a long term basis. Bob

Hi all

We are still here on Costa Blanca and hubby finally retired end of September so we go out more and just enjoying ourselves. Eldest son and wife are over on Sunday for a week but we are going away on Monday for 3 days as it is our 47th wedding anniversary. They knew about this before booking flights but at least it gives them a chance to do what they like. and we will make the most of the rest of the week with them taking them out and about.

How good it is to see that people remember me.

As I gave Jet and Joe my two Dogs I noticed that the sky is very dark but have Pink, black and a small amount of light blue......I wonder what the colour will be next.

My children are in so many different places that at times I wonder if we will ever be able to be together? However thy are all working with the exception of my daughter who has full responsibility for her two children one of home has a lot of support and is slowly improveing ,,,,so perhaps if you have a belief then please pray that she will one day be back with her family for good.

I'm still here in sunny Tenerife although we've had quite a lot of rain lately. Quite chilly early mornings and evenings but nice during the day. Went for walk in the sun this morning. I don't feel in the least Christmassy although the town has beautiful lights and decorations up.

Just trying to reduce my list of cards to send to UK as each one costs 75 cents to post. In previous years I have had English stamps brought over by family or friends and I have been able to find someone going back to the UK to post my ready stamped cards for me.

I'm pleased this thread has been resurrected.

Hi Bridget & everyone.
Well, we´re still here too. The economic situation hasn´t improved much, sad to say.
OH had his hernia op. last September & has also had a skin cancer removed.
I have been ill on & off since last June & despite exhaustive tests, the cause hasn´t been established, so I battle on & keep taking the pills, but am going stir crazy because I can´t get out much.
We had unbelievably glorious weather up to the end of November & everyone said we would pay for it. How right they were.
torrential rain & gale force winds every day since Dec 1st. Expecting a visit from Noah if it carries on.
Oh well. I didn´t want to go out anyway.

28th of April I said to Hazel that I would reply. How amiss I have been, sorry Hazel,

We still live in Spain and :-) I am enjoin our way of living.

All our children a doing well and only my daughter is not so good in staying in touch.

Today the sun is shining but the weather is calm but cooler.

well, my daughter emigrated to Canada six years ago, but now wants to come home, but her children have settled there, friends etc, and have nothing to come back to. so she is stuck in the middle now, doesn't want to stay, and can't leave. something of a dilemma. there must be a permanent solution somehow?

No, OH refuses to consider medication. He has been diagnosed, but says he knows what´s wrong & he´s dealing with it.
Problem is, he´s not dealing with it & that´s one of the eggshells I´m walking on. I keep trying to get him back to the doctor & he´s resisting at every turn.
Like Jet & Joe, Oliver, our cat is curled up asleep on his chair, but any minute now he´ll be coming to remind me it´s teatime.
No rest for the wicked. :-(

How delightful to see you have posted so quickly, sorry to learn that Your husband is suffering with Clinical Depression, does he take his medication, it is surpising how it can help.

The weather here is very strange, torrential rain during th night and the first part of the day, then just gloomy and now it is sunny...I wonder what will happen in the next hour or so....

We have certainly noticed the lack of my income on the other hand we are very happy with each-other and I even go out and watch him play darts, watch the Football and so on...

Oh is happy watching football, Jet and Joe my cocker Spanials are sound asleep and OH has just turned onto watching the Snooker, which I also quite enjoy.

Well that is about all for now, I wonder who will be the next person on here?

Hi Bridget.
Like you, we are still where we were last time we spoke & at the moment it´s lashing down with rain & if anything, the economy is in a worse state.
OH had his hernia op last September, without any problems, but we´ve had a pretty dreary winter & money is getting to be more of a problem & now, as if that wasn´t enough, he´s suffering from clinical depression, so I spend my life walking on egg shells.
Still, never mind. The weather will improve soon & everything feels better when the sun shines. We have a long succession of friends coming over between now & September, so I shall at least get a bit of a break.

I have just re read some of the entries and wonder if we might resurect this thred?

We have improved our garden with more pots and plants and due to the wet weather they are all thriving.
We have painted our kitchen and noow it is white with pale green and white tiles, it is amazing how much this has improved the area, it looks twice it's size.

My new glasses in last September are a boon, I can see so much better both in the sun and generally, much cheaper in UK than in my part of Spain.

We have put our house up for sale and hope that by the end of theyear we just may be back in Norfolk.

I do hope that someone replies, so bye bye for now

Thank you for your entry and so far shhhhhh the weather is good.....long may it last!
Went to Norwich yesterday and looked around the shops which were a little disappointed. So many really "cheap shops" and most from China!

However I did manage to buy a very once black skirt and a couple of tops from M&S and we had afternoon tea with
Overly freshly made muffins from a Tea Shop which sold so many different teas for sale. Bought some Lapsong which is always refreshing.

Have ordered new specs and so did OH.

Not sure what agenda we have today but I must contact my friend Linda who I have not seen for a few years and have afternoon tea in a very good tea and coffee shop in Attleborough.

Some time ago someone on one of my boards offered to collect information for one of my relations had worked for the Norwich Union. She told me that I could have copies if I could give her further details to take to the NU.......I cannot recall her name or where to find her. That is which of my threads was this kind offer made????

I hope someone can find it.
