Muffy I couldn't have said it any better myself. I genuinely feel so much for her family, but the fact is, she was an addict, who had the means to get herself out of that mess. She didn't, and this is the inevitable result.

As Rose said, hardly a mention of those poor Somalians who are dying becuase of famine as we type. I say, hardly a mention of the 90 young people who died because of a deranged gunman yesterday. THAT is a waste of life.

I can only echo what everyone has said.

It is a waste of a young life and talent, but she had had problems for some time.

My Daughter saw her perform at the V festival in 2009 as a guest of the group The Specials.
Daughter was right down at the front and said although Amy did not look as bad as she expected, she was finding it difficult to perform and was slurred when she sang and forgot the words to her songs.

We watched the edited highlights of V on TV where she appeared to be performing well on stage!

may she rest in peace

I feel very sorry for her family...and the waste of any young life and I hope she is now at peace.

and yet...i can't help comparing the reaction here and elsewhere with the way many people feel about the 'repulsive drunk' they step over on a Saturday night or the wasted homeless drug addict...who may well have had a much worse start and no chance of escaping it and may have had great talents also. Or the mentally ill person that everyone avoids (!) who also perhaps 'can't help herself'.

This makes GR news...but no one has posted on the thousands of children dead or dying in Somalia who have never HAD a choice or a chance. But of course no one can put a name to them except their families. 720 000 children may die without immediate aid...

Death isn't the difficult bit, living is.

Mildred, here here.

Ours is not to judge. Yes, we know she was addicted - she is not the first nor will she be the last.

I also remember sadly that Jimi Hendrix passed away at a similar age.

I agree with Stan to a degree.

It's very sad for her family and no one LIKES to hear of a life cut short...however.......the coverage in the news is totally OTT when there are much bigger stories going on elsewhere in the world.

Celeb culture has a lot to answer for !

Unfortunately Ice..when publicity is courted and welcome they're happy to have it...but it can't be switched on and off regardless of the circumstances.

I hope she is at peace now x

My great niece and nephew were playing with her on holiday last year, they called her 'Aunty Amy' and thought she was wonderful.

Totally different persona from her public one.

Very sad to hear of a life wasted in full view of the world.

Regardless of differing opinions on this thread.

A young very talented human being is dead.
No doubt leaving behind her devastated family & real friends.

A terrible waste of a life. that's what's sad.

Yes she was an addict, a sad tormented addict who probably only hurt herself, and of course her family who watched her painful demise.

I think comparing her news story with other people & if they died is irreverent
Its not a contest to see who is more deserving of a mention.

A human being has died.

A human being who was an unique character with a huge fan base (for her music I may add).

And for that in itself it is newsworthy.

I always said she would die young like Jancie Joplin so much talent...too many drugs ...what a shame..

Cath2010 Report 23 Jul 2011 18:46

It's a shame she has died so young. She did have such talent.
I feel for her family and friends who loved her.
Sad, because addiction of any kind is an illness. Sad because its hard on any family to watch someone they love self destruct in this way despite doing all they can to help.
I hope she is now at peace and free from the demons that plagued her.
