You could be right :-)......

But......I would like to start a thread on chat which asks for help in the headline.

Like.........Anyone fancy helping find an old dear who has born and got lost,
for me.

This would probably be of an evening or very late at night.......and I don't see why I shouldn't be able to do this without someone RRing me or asking me to move the thread......People I know are on certain boards.....mind you....anyone could join in......our kind of chat doesn't belong on the likes of ,trying to find boards

Chrissie that's how we became friends on here. We gave details of our deaduns and people volunteered to help. If we wanted informal help we used to put up a thread as Susan mentioned on the chat board.

Members used to chip in and help or just make encouraging noises and funny quips.

I'd prefer that TBH.

I don' t know Muffy I don' t think that was waht I was saying quite

I do think people should post on the proper board for family ihstory questions .......... otherwise they will probably post on _every_ board ........... I just think groups of friends who want to talk about this and that _and family history_ can have threads where they do that inside those threads ........... without starting new threads on the board that isn't meant for them

That doesn' t set a good example for newbies who are prone to post every which way they see :-)

I also agree that times have changed and not for the better.
when i first came on thissite in 2003 (i think) it was a great site and the people lovely and very helpful, the funny threads i liked the best,i remember crying with laughter at a thread about funny and rude names that had been found while researching(was that you muffy?)im sure it was.
i also liked the threads that made people think about the subject and the different opinions of people was interesting reading, never any nastiness or abuse just peoples opinions(which is what some of these threads are about, they get people talking)if you post a thread now that someone takes offence to god help you.so sad that a good site has been ruined. :-D <3

reporting in as directed :-)

why can't people who are friends and want to pick each others ' brains about a genealogy problem just have a chatty thread like this going and do it in here like ?

I have seen loooong threads on other boards here where people do that, just pass the time of day and by the way can anybody help me find so and so in 1901.............

wouldn' t that be better than saying 'just post where you like and hang them all' ?
