New facilities available free for now but then you have to pay extra dont understand surely as a platinum member this would include new updates as and when they beome available 11 million members on the site even at the basic membership thats a lot of dosh in my book

I am having problems, but a lot fewer problems than many other people





Plus, I am using IE6, much to the support team's disgust!


It simply cannot be all OUR servers, or OUR browsers, or OUR whatever


If it was a customer server or browser problem, then only those people using that same server or browser would be having trouble.

I am getting this maintenance message if I click on my bookmarks (firefox) but can get straight through via Google, no passwords, just "Hallo Elizabeth" straightaway. And I can navigate round the site mostly, but on "My Threads" we're back to maintenance again.

there are not 11 million members on site!


the number of 11 million members is cumulative since the start of GR in 2002

The site was free for everyone for at least 1 year ................ I joined as a paying Standard member in 2004.

There is no indication as to how many of those are free members vs paying members.

But I think it would not be too far wrong to say the majority are in fact free members, who use the site as a place to build their tree. This site is rated in a couple of sites as having one of the best tree making programmes that is available free.

I've sometimes taken a guess at how many of the 11 million are still active members

I reckon 1 million would be excellent, 100,000 possibly more accurate.

Well I haven't a clue as to what IE I am on, only know that when I try my usual entry for GR I get the maintenance message. When I go to the next site I get in but can't get into the 'Home' section. Why oh why can't they leave things alone. They keep bl***y mucking about with this site every few weeks. Was thinking about not renewing my subs but it would only be a mere drop in the ocean that they would be missing.
Come on GR, get your act together!!!!!!!!!!!

Im sorry GR representative but this is all getting a bit silly now. The problem has got even worse over the last 3 days. I cannot view the home page without the maintenance page coming up, same for messages, most of the boards, & hot matches. Search is hit and miss and my tree keeps crashing. Im just glad it let me onto the site through the help page and i managed to find this ONE board that works so that i could see if anyone else is STILL having problems. Will we get an extension on our subscription? We are not all technology minded on here. My mother has paid for a month subscription and hasn't been able to access the site since. She hasn't got the knowledge that some of us have on how on earth she would even begin to try and access the site without using the main link and i am sure there are many more on here just like her.

If you signed up to a years subscription of your favourite magazine and they only sent you January, March, May, July, September, October & November you would be outraged and demand the other months were sent to you too. So i think its only fair that an extension on peoples subscription should be put in place because of these site issues.

I contacted GR because for over aweek now I have been having problems. If I have the advanced home page as soon as I try to "go to my tree" either through the button or the menu it IMMEDIATELY brings up the essential maintenance page. This happens without fail. Other problems have been sporadic. I have managed to get into my tree by using the mini tree home page and launching tree builder. The layout is the same the colour scheme is awful and different. I was worried that anything that I entered would get lost when all was working OK. So far though so good (I use Windows XP and IE8 in work) and it seems to hold the info entered.

They replied! Two days extension to my subscription..pleased but whoopy doo I have had problems for seven days now.... ;-)

All members have probably been affected in view of the many error issues.

Hi Genes Reunited,
I sent a complaint in weeks ago .I have been having trouble getting into the site since April,it just seems to freeze.
I refresh but still the same thing it makes no difference where I try to access, it has taken me more than 15 minutes just to access this post.
Some one suggested you should close down the site and then try to fix the problem,I am sure we could all accept that ,if in fact you are able to get everything working again.
I do appreciate what you are trying to do, but this has been going on for too long.
