Thank you everyone for your supportive messages especially today, it's a day of mixed emotions, (yet again!!) One year on, and Ash is learning to walk, driving, and gaining confidence and independence daily, we are so very proud of him, it is also the 1st anniversary of life as we now know it, we hope the future brings some sunshine and flowers our way. This past week sees the 1st re birthday of 3 other amazing wounded hero's who we have shared this journey with, we wish them and their amazing families sunshine and flowers for the future as well. xxx

What else can I say that will express my feelings for the courage that this family has shown with such dignity and determination.
Liz, you have said all that can be said, what an example the whole family have been and I know that they will continue to be so.

From time to time I am in contact with them, and feel honoured to be allowed to do so.

Our common link is our serving sons, and that before I left the UK, I lived close to them but did not know them.

Forever in my heart, the whole family.

Izzy, what a different path you and your family have trodden since that fateful day in July last year, the anniversary of which is coming up I know as it was close to my son's birthday. How my heart broke for you all and for Ash especially but how remarkable you have all been as you supported Ash and all the family through the various trials and tribulations, I mean you lot don't do things by halves, do you?

The many things you have done to help others while you helped Ash recover and adapt have been admirable and still you go on to do more. You must have wondered what you did all day before this happened because you certainly seem to fit a huge amount in to your lives now, and have to cope with all the travelling too.

I hope Ash gets on well with his treatment and such and will continue to do all he wants to do. Out of such a tragic happening has come such courage and strength, you must be justly proud of Ash and all your family and friends who have rallied round, and you now have a huge circle of new friends too who help you with the fundraising and such.

Much luck to you all, and strength to continue fighting back from such a cruel shock that awful day. I think we are all proud to know of you and your family. I am sure you are the rock who holds them all together.

Oh very well done to team victa, that is remarkable.

I hope all goes well for Ash today in Birmingham. This heat we have had is not pleasant when it gets so humid, I don't think it is comfortable for anybody and it must be terribly opressive sitting on motorways.

Izzy Report 28 Jun 2011 10:20

Ash is off to Birmingham today, just for check up, fingers x all is well , he's been having a few issues with the silly wound on his left stump. Headley court yesterday to be recast for new rehab stumps, which should be ready for when he goes back in next week. He's not been to keen on this extreme heat we've had recently, apparently it is not like this in Afghan, out there it is dry, whereas here it is muggy, i don't think sitting in motorway traffic does him any favours either!!!
Well Team Invicta are on the final stage of their charity challenge, and are as i type on a ferry from Penzance to St Mary's island in the Scilly's, yeah after 4 weeks on the road they will be home tomorrow. It has been a long journey and i am sure that they have been on a journey of self discovery as well, they have achieved something pretty darn remarkable and i hope they will carry the pride in themselves that they so richly deserve for a very long time. xxx

Right I have got here at long last :-) after quite a long break from GR.

I have followed all the posts on FB, read the links to newspaper clips, cried at some of the photos of Ash (especially in the early days), laughed at ones after his remarkable recovery. More than that felt Cheryl's pride at Ash's achievements.

I look forward to further updates and wish you all everything good for the future.

Well i've been brave and watched all of the Our War series on bbc3 now, have to say it's been tough, but not nearly as tough as the time the guys have had out in afghanistan. i hope it has made a few people a little more aware of why we have troops out there, Major Sean Bichall has most definatley left a legacy to be proud of in rebuilding the school, just shows how a little thinking out of the box can make a huge difference to the future of so many children, and i pray those children will be taught to strive for a less confrontational future. Blessings to all those who continue to fight for a safer future for us all xx
