NEWSFLASH

Harold Camping held a news conference today (May 23)

The date for The Rapture is October 21 2011

He was "flabbergasted" that it didn't happen on May 21, but it WILL happen on October 21st.

Well then, one thing is for certain, none of us will live to see it.

Huia Report 22 May 2011 10:07

Anyway, the calendar has been mucked about with over the centuries, so how can anybody predict an exact day and time from the bible? IMO most people celebrated the beginning of the 3rd millenium A.D. a year too early, but then the dates are purely arbitrary. Maybe the end of the world is another millenium away.

Huia.

I wonder if they were a day out. It is the evening of 22 May here and the weather is wild and woolly. Cold, heavy rain all day, strong gale force winds. One would think it was winter. Goodness that is nine days away yet. Can't have an end to the world, can't have our weather ordered to suit.

Signed, Aunty Sherlock, one of the wicked ones.

I guess most people in the world have been very wicked. Ah well, as an old music hall song (my mother or grandmother used to sing it) says, 'A short life and a gayeeee one.' But not so short.

Huia.

The "visionary" was Harold Camping, and his ministry is called Family Radio Worldwide.

Como?? The who church of what, then?

http://gujaratichurch.ca/

Seems a legit church, as much as most others. ;)

No mention of end times there! And one of its personnages underwent surgery earlier tihs month; now that would be o! he of little faith, I must say!

But it's in Brampton, one of those non-city cities surrounding Toronto ... I doubt most people in Colorado could find Canada on a map, let alone Brampton. I know I couldn't ...

Lindsey* Report 22 May 2011 00:41

oh gosh , it was the gujarati church of Canada in Colorado, save the date and all that.
I couldn't believe the radio program where the preacher had told his 7 year old son, they were going to heaven on Saturday. as I said how will they talk their way out of it

and
who's going to do my washing up now ?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 22 May 2011 00:14

it was a US church that promulgated the idea that tday was the day

just as they did in 1994

and that was a failure as well!

I have.nt done the washing-up or the laundry today, not much point if it's the end of the world, and now you tell me I've been left behind, story of my life.!

Left on the scrap -heap of life , no rapture, zilch.
I
shall be interested to see how the Canadian church that believed today was the day will say , as they had deferred their Tax returns to November,.... now they will have to pay up !
I do wonder what their excuse for miscalculating the date, will they have the same problem with their Taxes ?

And just in case you are worried about future predictions......

1. Followers of William Miller believed the world would end on October 22, 1844.

2.The Jehovah's Witness religion has predicted the end of the world in 1914, 1915, 1918, 1920, 1925, 1941, 1975 and 1994.

3. Charles Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church, predicted the world would end in 1794.

4. Famous forecaster Nostradamus predicted doomsday would happen in July 1999.

5. English mystic Joanna Southcott predicted the world would end on October 19, 1814, when she gave birth to the Messiah.

AuntySherlock

October 21 is but a few months away and will be here before you can say....

Christian dispensationalist End Times: pretribulation, premillennial, Christian eschatological viewpoint of the end of the world.

Thanks for that Janey!! I am always ready to improve my vocabulary and look at other viewpoints on my existence.

These books are fiction, aren't they.

I'm off to make certain I am better prepared on 21st October than I was on 21st May. Larger stock of chocolate, take up drinking alcohol, new outfit, clocks on GM time, copious quantities of tea, practice being a bad person (that will be a challenge), stop payment of all invoices, cards, fh subscriptions and utilities, all necessary and unnecessary journeys done, house clean and tidy, rapture party hosted and family history questions at the ready.
