I fear we are in for another Great Disappointment ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Disappointment

"The Great Disappointment was a major event in the history of the Millerite movement, a 19th century American Christian sect that formed out of the Second Great Awakening. ... Thousands of followers, some of whom had given away all of their possessions, waited expectantly. When Jesus did not appear, October 22, 1844 became known as the Great Disappointment."

As with so many things I procrastinate about, I'm afraid I just didn't get around to giving all my stuff away today ... Oh well, there's always next time.

I have decided to finish my bottle of wine tonight ..... just in case ;-)

It's morning time. About 6.20 am and I had to sign in before GR would allow me admittance to the site.

And the writey in box really isn't behaving itself too well. I have to type really slowly or it does not work.

We here are forecast storms, heavy rain, mini tornados and have been advised to take storm weather precautions.

There is still time but it looks like I will at least have to do the shopping. Drats I was looking forward to tripping off to my mortal toil with a few dollars in my pocket.

Message to the Canadians. Big tick of approval from a friend of mine. For the last three weeks she has been touring your country and been on a cruise offshore (best place to cruise). Received a post card from her yesterday. Loves the people, the snow, the places she has visited and has had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

We are waiting to see if she will need language and cultural rehabilitation when she returns to work in a week's time.

"The End" is running late then? ;-)

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 20 May 2011 22:17

It appears to be.

Must check and see if my daughter is on any board of management overseeing "the end".

That woman is late for anything and everything. One of the peoples of the universe who definitely keeps her own time.

Well hmm, if AuntyS's friend has been seeing snow in Canada in the last three weeks ... I do believe something must have frozen over already!

Snow in May, no, not generally. None that I've seen this year. But hmm, some backwater province may have had some recently, that's true, Alberta or something. Not much cruising in Alberta. ;)

Along with the floods both east and west, and then the fire that burned down half the town of Slave Lake on the weekend. Awfully danged early for forest fires, and they don't usually manage to burn down towns here. This was quite a bad event. No deaths, though.

Snowstorms, floods and fires, all in the same week or two. End times upon us for sure ...

Ah, perhaps your friend is seeing snow on coastal mountains. That's Sylvia's department. I've never been west of the foothills, in that Alberta place, and then only momentarily.

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 20 May 2011 23:04

Yes you are correct.

"Lots of snow still in the Rockies. Favourite places are Alberta, Victoria, British Columbia".

That's the land based areas visited. The cruise was off the west coast towards Alaska if I remember correctly.

Let me tell you from one who has already had the experience, it's a real downer. There I was looking forward to something different from the run of the mill humdrum existence of the daily grind and.........

yep, another disappointment!!!

From the times on the posts, I see it is approaching midnight GMT!

Maybe that's where it will all start -- not at the international date line, but at the Greenwich meridian!!

I'm hungry (it's nearly 7 pm here) and I want to go make soup, but I guess I'd better wait and see what befalls the green and pleasant land in 7 minutes ... 6 minutes ...

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 21 May 2011 00:06

Well, AuntyS, I hope you're happy.

I'm going to go make soup.

Google has been futzing around with Gmail again, I see. Sigh.

It's only 9am Aunty - giving the 'end' a chance. It's very rude to expect something as important as that on an empty stomach. We should be allowed to have breakfast.

Janey I noticed the geewhiz mail thingy was missing a few options. Took me quite a while to work out how to log out. Duh!!!! New button.

It is approaching 1pm Saturday here. I've made the prawns, meatballs and rice dish for tea tonight.

Sorry SueMaid, and I do agree with you. If a monumental happening is to be foisted upon the multitude I really believe it should be organised , catered, timed and co-ordinated with more expertise than this.

Hope someone is still here apart from us

1 am here in southern Ontario, it's about half one am, and the rain and world seems unending..
My eldest granddaughter has been really spooked by the hoo-ha about the end of the world as we know it. Poor kid was petrified.
Haven't bothered to wash up tonight, just in case, but just saw on the news that the end is due at 6pm, well Oz must already be past 6pm now so as much as I have no fear of death itself,, those worried can probably breathe again.
More sad news tonight from Great Slave Lake, where forest fires have destroyed most of the community. earlier reports indicated no loss of life, now a helicopter pilot has been killed while hovering over the lake, collecting water to fling on the fires. RIP, such a dangerous job,
I am off to bed, hope to catch you all again tomorrow.

Sun is shining, but its raining.
Blue skies with lightning and thunder.
Stars are out with a full moon
Birds are flying upside down
Planet Mars just floated by, followed by Jupiter
Cyclones and flooding in the north...fires in the west...and snowing the south.

Soooo just a normal day here.
