Hi,

I really sympathise with you. Ive struggled with my weight for years, swinging between euphoric positiveness when I found a 'new' diet which promised weight loss and hopelessness when I couldnt stick to it or it just didnt work.

Ive just found a book which seems to make more sense to me by James Duigan. He advocates cutting the c. r. a. p. ( forgive me, his words)

C. CAFFIENE
R. REFINED SUGARS
A. ALCOHOL
P. PROCESSED FOODS.

Dont touch anything which claims to be 'low fat' as its likely to be 'high sugar'.

Anyway I'm loving it. No sugar cravings , dont feel hungry all the time, and the weight is shifting.

Good luck with it, which ever way you choose.

Regards Pat

I was also grossly overweight but now I have only myself to feed (hubby is in care with dementia) I am on a better diet and have lost 10 kg, which is more than a stone, in the last year. Not a lot, but better to lose it slowly than too quickly. I weigh myself each morning when I get up, no clothes, so I know how I am doing. I do have the occasional lapse, such as when I bought some crumpets and had them spread with lots of butter, but try to restrain myself.

I dont walk quickly, particularly up hills, but a one hour walk involving some uphill does help me lose weight, on the rare occasions I can stir myself to get out and do it! But even without the walking, my good diet is helping.

Good luck anyway.

Huia.

Dolly, you and I have the same problems, the osteoarthritis altho I am not needing sticks yet, and the fibromyalgia which causes such exhaustion, don't you find? I have chronic fatigue syndrome too and struggle to walk far or as briskly as I used to and could do with losing at least two stone but even if I get half a stone off I will be happier. Doing it very very slowly by eating just a bit less of the fattening things and filling up with lots of vegetables. I eat a cinnamon and raisin bagel every day for breakfast dunked in coffee made with half milk and half water, it seems to have helped a lot so try to avoid toast and marmalade and never buy croissants now much as I loved them particulary the pain au chocolat ones!

Good luck with finding a diet plan that will help.

Hello Joeva,

Thank you for your reply.
I think I will go to my GP I'd never thought of doing that, how daft of me, my GP is excellent and I know her well, so I don't think I will have a prblem asking her about a dietician.

Hello Mary,

Thank you for your reply, I sympathise with on the weight gain, its hellish.
I went to the gym a few years ago and stuck at it as long as I could but found it made my fibro much worse, I was exhausted all the time, walking is difficult as I have severe osteo in my feet , also in my knees and all over, I walk as often as I can using a stick but its not always easy. I will do as Joeva says and pop off to my GP and ask for some help as I am struggling on my own to do this.

Hi Dolly

I do sympathize with you. I also have put on over 3 stones in the last few years and just can't seem to shift it.

If you find going to the gym tortuous (as I do!) try walking for 30 minutes a day, you can start off slowly by doing, say 10 minutes, and gradually make that 10 minutes at a brisker pace, building up to 30 minutes over the course of a few weeks.

Since doing this I have lost a few pounds, I've still got a lot of pounds to go mind! lol. But I do also feel happier, they say exercise is good for your mood and I've certainly found that to be true.

Mary

Edit to add: If you don't want to walk aimlessly on your own, try looking for a *Walking for Health* group in your area. They have a variety of walks, and will walk at your pace. I only go to one of these a week (because of work commitments) but I really enjoy it and am going to try to fit in 2 a week soon.

Hi Dolly

Perhaps you could ask your GP about seeing a dietician who would be able to design a suitable eating plan for you.

Best wishes

Jo

Over the past 4 years I have gained an awful lot of weight about 3 stone due to ill health and medication and a couple of ops making me immobile.
I don't know if any of you ladies and gents struggle the same?
How do any of you manage to lose weight when it is impossible to do exercises?
I know I am unhealthy and have high BP due to the weight but cannot do exercise to help with the weight loss, dieting alone doesn't shift it.
I cannot swim and have a dreadful fear of water which makes learning to swim stressful.
Using the gym hasn't been successful because my arthritis and fibromyalgia causes problems, I so want this weight gone.

I just wondered how any of you cope with excess weight and inability to lose it easily.

Kind Regards Dolly
