They'll be loads of light sabres and grooming products in our locals shops in the next few years then!!!!!!!!!.

Loads of people I know are putting

religion...Jedi Knight
ethnicity (sp)...wookie.

Personally I think the whole thing is WAY too intrusive and should've been scaled down by quitea bit x

Even if you are away from home on the night, you still have to complete a census return. This can be done either before or after the actual date. It takes around ten minutes per adult to complete or about 30 minutes for a family of 4. You are encouraged to complete it on-line wherever possible.

If you fail to complete a return you will be reported to the compliance team, who will investigate further and you could face prosecution. In addition, all households who fail to complete a return will have a dummy return completed by the census collector. This will contain basic details such as address, property type and estimated no of residents.

It is in your interests to complete the form accurately as if you don't, you and your family may loose out over the next ten years as the statistics collected on the census are used as the basis for providing services such as education, employment, health care, public transport, housing, grants to local authorities etc etc.

Even supermarkets such as Tesco and Sainsbury use the census information to ensure to determine the size of their stores and the no of car parking spaces needed. Ethnic info is also used by them to decide which products to stock in a particular area.

quotes barbara

Apart from the 1911 census (latest one available), our ancestors didn't fill them in, an enumerator did it for them - trouble is, that is why there can be mistakes due to mishearing, misinterpretation, etc

tell me about it Barbara
the enumerator gave my family three diffrent surnames
in three different censuses all at the same address with the same first names of the full familly
stockdale stockton engledew
must admit none of the names sound the same in any language

Its rumoured that this Government wanted to scrap this forthcoming census , but because of all the money spent on collaborating this census by the last Government . it went ahead .......

It wont get a true census of the British folk anyway as so many folk are on holiday unlike years ago when no one seemed to holiday .

So It wont help Genealogy for are future relatives,,,

I know 6 of my friends that are away overseas and will be at on the night of the census !!

Bearing in mind I was delighted to see the original signatures on the 1911 I will bear this in mind in case my descendents feel the same and not use the online facility and will photocopy as someone suggested some weeks ago.

I heard , on some TV programme , that the forms will be sent to an American company to be analized for the statistics , the company will be paid one and a half billion for this service ............ I wonder if it is true ?

Didn't the 1911 census ask about the number of rooms people had?

Amanda2003 Report 7 Mar 2011 21:58

30 pages !!! Is there a " are you happy question " then ? This government seems to want to know what makes us happy and the census would , I assume , be there chance to ask ?

Cooper

Cooper Report 7 Mar 2011 21:57

Why do they need all our qualifications?

Teresa

Barbara

Barbara Report 7 Mar 2011 21:56

Ah but it's only a few pages per person and not all questions need answering (many are "Go to Qu.....").

After all, if it wasn't for the census we wouldn't have much of our family history information would we?
