Qualifying somewhat my original comment of 'no' ;-))

Although sceptical, I do have an open mind and know several people who have seen or experienced 'ghosts' or 'odd' occurrences. They are sane, rational beings and I have no reason to doubt their accounts. I have never experienced anything, and I tend towards logic and pragmatism. However, when I was younger, I was fascinated by the supernatural and had numerous books about the subject and always wanted to visit so-called 'haunted houses'. My Dad died when I was 18 and for years I longed for a 'sign' of some sort, perhaps more in hope than in true belief of 'the other side'.

That may be so Don, but what about two sane sensible women who see the same dead granny who isn't THEIR 'dead granny' and they see her in the same house that they are visiting,, in the same room, but 20 years apart with no prior knowledge? Now either they are both loopy , or they are seeing 'something'.

oh and it isn't a 'haunted' house by reputation so they are not going with any expectations, one is there house hunting , one accompanying a friend to see someone.

A rational , scientific answer would be interesting and up for consideration :) creaking floorboards, open doors and reflections won't cut it in this case , a woman sitting on a kitchen chair is hard to mistake for any of them :))

Don - as a young busy mum with a baby I can assure you I was definitely not thinking about a dead granny - did not even possess a photo of her until some 18 years ago. Then my father dies a month later unexpectedly in my house

Never seen her since.

Mick i do hope that quote re "personal abuse" will not be misinterpreted as me complaining about someone disagreeing with me? Everyone is free to do that lol.?

I was refering only to the use of a specific word ( one which I still see in it's old usage as unacceptable) and some comments directed at Eldrick on his blog.

My opinion,
The human mind is an amazing thing and is quite capable of playing tricks on us,
some people are more susceptable to these tricks than others. If you are thinking about your dead grannie even subconsciously then some people will actually see/smell/hear their grannie in the room with them. Others will not. The grannie is not there but your mind makes you believe she is.
Just my opinion.

Ginny not too good myself so far back but someone will put us right if I am wrong.

I believe the Gaels originated in France. The Celts were Irish and the Scots too, but then there are the Welsh!

I googled - says Scots,Wales, Ireland, Cornwall, Cumbria and Brittany are basically Celtic in character but originated in central Europe some 4,000 years ago. Then I googled gaels - says these are speakers of Irish, Scots gaelic and Manx.

I could have sworn I learned in school about gaels coming from France!

Were the Celts from Rome or Greece and invaded the British ie; Ireland and Scotland?

My son had a clown - so it never crossed my mind that he had 'the sight'. Mind you he was a darned nuisance (the clown), had to avoid sitting on him when I sat down, he liked to sit at the table and have cutlery - thank god he never asked for a dinner. Started when he was about 3 and stayed for about a year.

Chris

I don't think there are any Celtic or Gaelic genes in my family

Dad and brother did used to believe that there was a link with the northern part of Ireland ........... but I haven't found it yet, and the family has been taken back to ca 1720

although that guy was dropped from the alien spaceship, appearing only on his marriage in 1740

........ so I guess there could be way, way back

Anyway, it was Mum who used to see things

I believe it can run in families

My daughter used to have an imaginary friend, sometimes the friend would come in the car with us, or eat at the table, but was usually in J's bedroom or where she was playing in the house.

J stopped talking about her when she was about 7 or 8

I have never asked if she actually saw someone or whether it was all imaginary in her mind.

It's a pity that personal abuse ever comes into discussions like this ( and I'm refering to comments on the blog) because it automatically weakens the argument of those who have genuine experiences which are as yet unexplained and on which they have an open mind.

Sceptics are needed lol, if you can't get a rational explanation for something from THEM, then you 'may' just be onto something lol.

Apart from a couple of members I do not think anyone here has rubbished the others views whether for or aginst.

I have now become interested in whether there is a link from Celtic/Gaelic genes in having unexplained experiences!

I think it boils down to, if you believe in ghosts, spirits, demons, angels, fairies, Jesus and god, then so be it.
Everyone is entitled to believe in what they want, especially if it gives them some kind of comfort, their views should be respected.

People are also permitted to think that ghosts, spirits, Jesus, god and the like are just figments of peoples imagination., and their views should also be respected.

Treat each other with respect even if you do not agree.
