No problem Bridget. I for one would like to thank you for starting this thread, and making it possible to add poems and relevant 'sayings', to express my thoughts and feelings - much better than 'going on'!!!!

Thank you for adding to Favourite Poems etc.
Soon I will also start adding on here but helping so many people re their family history, writing to friends and family that there is little time to look on here so once more"Thank you"

A Valentine I went and got,

With Valentine's Day on Thursday, I remember a young English literature student of my acquaintance many moons ago (like almost 50 years now) saying that John Donne was the most wonderful love poet. What she meant is that of the 3 words from Greek that we translate as "love" (eros, filio and agape), he was best at "eros".

Well, I am a bit of a heathen as far as a most of poetry is concerned. I found his poem on "Ecstasy" but wonder if there are more suitable classical love poems for 14 Feb?

Where, like a pillow on a bed,
A pregnant bank swelled up, to rest
The violet's reclining head,
Sat we two, one another's best;

Our hands were firmly cemented
With a fast balm, which thence did spring,
Our eye-beams twisted, and did thread
Our eyes, upon one double string;

So to' intergraft our hands, as yet
Was all the means to make us one,
And pictures in our eyes to get
Was all our propagation.

As 'twixt two equal armies, Fate
Suspends uncertain victory,
Our souls (which to advance their state,
Were gone out) hung 'twixt her, and me.
