I have absolutely nothing against same sex couples having children.I just wonder why after all this time of being together they have decided to have a baby now.I am sure the baby will be well loved but it does make me think they are being a little selfish( in the sense of their ages and profession). How much time will they actually be able to spend with the child as it grows up. |

The Sky news announced it that "Elton John has become a father" so maybe he is the natural father.? |

I suppose biologically, that only one of them can be the actual parent, and near pensioners at that! |

I am sure that both their wills will name a guardian. It is a bit of a surprise as theya re older and I wonder why they didn't have a child earlier as they have been together a long time. I have never been a particular admirer of Elton John but saw him interviewed and thought how much he had changed, gone was the flamboyancy, he seemed much more 'normal' (for want of a better word). I hope they will live long enough to give the child a good start in life and as has been said, what a lucky child. |

I would think that if anything should happen to them, provision would have been made to ensure the childs welfare and future.Oh, I was bought up by my Grandma, She was 64 when she took over.**M**. |

Do any of us? do parents who both work have 'time' for their kids? They party yes... which makes the headlines maybe two or three times a year, that leaves 362 days when they don't? |

Am not saying that older parents will not love a child but the life span is not there. Women aged 40 and over are less likely to conceive - that is nature's purpose. If they both died before the child is grown - is the child handed back to it's mother? |

They may have money, and i'm sure child will be over indulged with every material thing. |

By the same token though, in many of our family trees there are children whose parents died young who were looked after by grandparents, older than these two...were they less loved because their 'guardian' could not run around as much? should anyone NOT have a child in case they die and leave it orphaned? that happens to young parents too doesn't it. |

"A representative for the couple said they intended to protect and respect the privacy of the surrogate mother, and would not be discussing any details relating to the surrogacy arrangements." |

I think that is every bit as selfish as women in their 50s and 60s have IVF. |
