never having been fortunate enough to travel to Australia even though I have family ties I woulld have loved to be able to visit the Sydney Opera House,.

My first husband worked for an international company who were very involved in this project and he has several pieces of memorabilia given to him as the project finished.

I used to be very envious of many places he visited during his working era and never more so than this project,

Hi Bridget
Did you know that the Opera House is actually floating on the edge of the harbour.

They pump sea water into these huge tanks that the foundations rest upon, thats the way it stays afloat, and at the same time is used for the cooling of the building.

Im new compared to alot on here i have been on Genes for about two and a half years but dont really comment on the site anymore. As people jump on you for anything and everything. Sad really as I know there are some great people on here but they seem to all leave as they can take no more

I hope it one day settles down on here. there will always be the odd bust up here and there but for sometime its been way to much.

kind regards
Rob

Hi Robin7

glad to see you give it another go.
you say "Im new on here compared to alot on here"

I say im new on here compared to you.!

But gee, there really is hardly any comparing on this thread.
I hope you find its mostly sharing.
What would you like to talk about?

Annette

There are plenty of friendly people on the forums and topics to suit all tastes.

Sorry, but I'm finding it pretty insulting to all these lovely people on the boards when I read such things as 'all the great people leave' or 'I don't post anymore because because of arguments'.

Hi Robin
Welcome back.
I'm reluctant to comment on your post now without fear of you accusing me of jumping on you ;-)

AnninGlos Report 9 Dec 2010 11:58

Hi Robin7
Thank you for your comments but I am afraid I can't agree that all the great people have left. you only have to read through this thread to see that there are still many 'great' people on the boards. I find that if you try and stay away from getting involved with arguments/spats then you can enjoy good company and interesting conversations.

Incidentally I hope you don't mind me disagreeing with your view. On this thread all points of view are allowed all are valid.

Robin7 Report 9 Dec 2010 12:27

LOL i didnt put left i put leave and what i meant was we sadly see lots of people saying they have had enough and go. I also put there are some great people on here which there are.

also im speaking from whats happened to me on here there is no problem with a good old debate its when it comes to insults. some people disagree with what i have just put but there is no name calling its what they feel that is fine so no i dont feel jumped on as when we write something we have to understand its not to everyones taste what upsets me is when it gets nasty. Thats what i was trying to get a cross.

What sort of books do you read. I also read loads of books from poetry and the classics to crime who done its and historical. Only thing I do not like is badly written books and romance, and historical romance.:-)

Evening to everyone,
hope you are all well.
Finally finished christmas shopping and got it all wrapped up so i'm feeling chuffed with myself. Not started on the christmas food shop though, will get OH to help me, its the only part of christmas he really enjoys!! Grandchildren are overexcited about all the presents under the tree but so far have resisted the urge to have a poke, I hope the dog is as good, I dont fancy having to re-wrap that lot.

I have been reading books for 70yrs! Over the years my tastes have changed, but I have always liked something with a bit of meat on its bones, that invlves you in the story. Have never at any time liked light romance, do like historical novel, adventure, thrillers factual, But nowadays cant remember what author I am looking for when I get to the library van, so have to browse the shelves. Loved Jean M Aual's books on early humans.

Theres not much I wouldn't read, I've always loved getting lost in a good book and sometimes fail to notice its way past bedtime. Not keen on slushy love stories but have been known to read them as a last resort when bookshelf is getting low.
