Cant help but notice there are alot of arguments on the threads recently, quite disappointing as most are trying hard at the moment to have some input.

I have enjoyed reading this thread, so many different thoughts. I will keep watching and reading and maybe I will have something worthwhile to add at some time.

Sue, if you can, let the arguments wash over you, they have always been there, always will be it is human nature to 'squabble'.

Arguments? Where? I just don't see any. If I see a comment which seems designed to get a rise I just ignore it and move on.

The vast majority of members and threads are friendly.
My favourites are Chat, General and Tips and have never come across anything or anybody that would stop me posting.

I hope everyone is keeping warm and not having problems with the cold and ice.

Island when I see your Christmas name I hear Harry Bellafonte singing Island in the sun for some reason Lol!!!

Island

Island Report 7 Dec 2010 16:38

Hi Ann

How's the christmas tree getting on?

Ah, is that who sang Island in the Sun? You must have heard it on such programmes as Desert Island Discs too. LOL

AnninGlos Report 7 Dec 2010 17:07

I'm sad to say I remember it when it was very popular many many years ago.

I have just finished the tree but have decided not to put absolutely everything on it this year. It is all red, silver white and gold. Artificial tree and it looks quite pretty. Everything else (floral arrangements cottage display will have to wait until tomorrow. So for now just the crib and the tree and a few bowls of baubles.

Wasnt Harry a gorgeous young man! Nice voice too. Must admit prefer ballads to modern music. I will now have that song on my mind for the rest of the day!

Sounds like you've just done my tree Ann!
I have a collection of small toys given to me by friends over the years. Sadly some of these friends are no longer here but I think of them when I put the toys under the tree.

i let the kids do it one year. Not only did they put absolutely everthing on it but they put it all right in the middle at the front - what you might call 'kiddie reach'. My encouragement to 'stand back and look after hanging a few things' fell on deaf ears LOL

Did Harry Belafonte also sing Marys Boy Child?

How do you cut and paste to save putting all that on paper then typing it in? I would like to see that but am not up to it.

We went to a Harry Belafonte concert just about a year after we arrived in Vancouver. It was our 2nd anniversary

The show was great!! He is fantastic!

But, unfortunately, I'd booked the tickets for the show, OH booked us in for dinner at a posh restaurant ............ at 6 pm, HB show was at 8pm, close by

He thought that was plenty of time.

We arrived for dinner, mentioned that we were going to the show .................... and the maitre d' quite snootily said, "Oh you should have told us when you reserved, we'd have had you come in earlier"!

It turned out to be a lovely meal, they bent over backwards to serve us in timely fashion but without rushing us.

and we did go back to that restaurant quite a few times.

moonbi Report 7 Dec 2010 21:56

yes Harry B did sing Mary's Boy child
my favorite of his is the Banana Boat song.

Now that a laugh to remember.

My favorite group now is Human Nature, they put on a great show at the Opera House last New Years Eve.

and I really love Celin Dion voice, especially the CD she put out with Andrea Boccelli.
Right; that thought made me go and put it on.
Im here on my own today, so I can have it as loud as i LIke.

I havent put our tree up yet, but this year its all silver and red too. Must be the fashion for 2010

I guess you heard Opera Winfrey is arriving in Sydney today.
Yesterday a whole plane load of her guests arrived.

Not sure if I want her to be taking over our Opera House for her chats.

Doesnt seem appropriate venue.

What you think?

Annette

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Dec 2010 22:06

Do you think it was her nasme that got her the venue? I agree, I have never seen the atual Opera house but by the pictures it looks too grand for a chat show.

SylviaInCanada Report 7 Dec 2010 22:16

we saw an opera in the "small" theatre in the Opera House ........back in 1981.

It was lovely venue

and we just had a peek in the "big" theatre. I think Joan Sutherland was singing in there the next night.

We were down there for a meeting ............... and one of the organized events was dinner in the Opera House, and then see an opera.

We had our then 7 year old with us.

What to do with her while we went to the dinner and opera????

We took her!

The waitresses at the dinner loved her ........ kept bringing her more and more food (lovely little lamb chops)

and she loved the opera!

Doesn't really seem Oprah though!!!

moonbi

moonbi Report 7 Dec 2010 22:22
