Jean (Monmouth) yes l know people manage with one kidney and the success rate is probably good for this kind of surgery but with losing my mum back in July from bowel cancer it has hit our family really badly but we are praying things work out for my brother and l am so glad he retired 3 years ago when he was 52 so no rush for him to go back to work and its good to hear your comments, thankyou.
Thanks everyone else for you love and support, xx

I will be thinking of your brother. I hope the op is a success as I am sure it will be.. If he is concerned about having a colostomy I am sure he will cope with it. My Mother had one when she was 81 and coped well with it after the first couple of weeks.

No good telling you not to worry, Just know we are all here for you to give you our support. ((((((hugs))))))

Feeling really down...........my brother had his operation this morning and my sister-in -law has just phoned to say they didn't remove any of the cancer as there was more there than they expected, there was 3 tumors inside the colon 2 outside and 1 attached to the kidney but they have given him a colostomy bag.
She said they would have to speak to the oncologist soon and my s-i-l- was going up the hospital now so hopefully she would find out more.
What is going to happen to my brother, why couldn't they take some of it away, what are his chances ?????????
I just feel so sick, why is this happening to my family, haven't we had our share of bad luck.
Sorry to rant at you all but !!!!!!!!!

Elisabeth Report 24 Nov 2010 17:31

Mummo,

You rant all you want - we all have broad shoulders and can take it.

I can't give you any answers, but hope the doctors can get the treatment sorted out. Perhaps they want to go down the route of chemo to reduce the tumors before removing them?? I don't know much about all of this, but am sending cyber healing thoughts to you all.

Much love,
Elisabeth xxx

Jane Report 24 Nov 2010 18:33

I am sorry the news hasn't been as positive as you had hoped for Mummo.
There may be several reasons why they have not removed the cancer.Hopefully you will get some answers soon.He does sound very poorly.
Thinking of you and your family at yet another very difficult time.xxx

Jean (Monmouth)

Jean (Monmouth) Report 24 Nov 2010 19:53

Its possible the tumours are enmeshed with other organs and would be difficult and dangerous to remove. the chemo would hopefully shrink them and they might then be able to operate. An op is the quickest and least difficult of available treatments. Chemo is also able to provide a cure, but is longer and has more side effects. There are various kinds of chemo, some in tablet form, others by injection and a drip. There is also x-ray treatment, so there are several choices for them to make. Hope that treatment however provided is successful, at least to give him some more years.
