Morning Barbra and everyone, Gosh time flies, I haven't been here for about a week! I hope everyone is well? how is your knee now Emma? Barbra I hope all is well with you and that everyone else is doing good and all the Granchildren? I am to be a Great Aunt again in April 2012. I have spent a week picking out cars as we have to exchange our present motobility car for another in January, I have finally signed up for a new one yesterday. I am going to see my daughter next week :-D I haven't seen her for eleven months! I am hoping I can manage the journey to her without getting too stiff sitting for so long. I know its not a long time to some people but 4 hours is a while for me, even if we stop for a break half way.
All my hens have now stopped laying eggs :-( I now have a problem as to what to do with them before getting new hens, the ones I have are very old now and won't come back into lay ( I don't think ) :-S I am going to have to buy eggs today, I haven't bought an egg in over 6 years, I think I am going to be in for a shock! :-0
Have a good day all of you, I am off for my weekly weigh in at weight watchers, fingers crossed as I stayed the same weight last week.
Love to all. Dolly XX

Hello all
Glad to be back. A few problems with the computer and also with the antivirus software. Hopefully all is now back to normal, or at least what passes in our household for normal :-)
Weather at the beginning of the month was really hot. Daytimes over 30c and nights only down to about 24c. A foretaste of things to come.
Fortunately, over the last couple of days it has really cooled down amd we have had heavy rain.
Western Australia has now passed a new Cat Law. Within two years all domestic cats have to be sterilised, microchipped and registered with the local council. No problems for us as our two cats already comply (apart from registration, which has never been required before) but I can see an increase in cat dumpings by those who won't, or can't, comply
Take care all

Morning Barbra and everyone else looking in.
Congratulations Emma on your expected Great Grandchild/ Great Grandchildren ( it could be twins :) ) and becoming a Great Grandparent.
Allan I think in the long run, the cat microchipping and neutering is a good idea, I do think all cats need neutering, all these kittens that need homes must take over the animal homes, and it isn't just one litter a year for strays either. I can also see cat dumping being a way of getting out of the new law, but like I said earlier, in the long run it may well work having the new law in place.
Have a great day all of you, and keep dry for us in the UK as we have torrential rain forcast for today,.
I am picking up 4 new pol hens tomorrow.

Hello Barbra, Marion, Emma, Joan,Hazel, Allan and anyone else looking in,
Barbra I have at the moment 6 hens, only one is laying eggs about 4 times a week if I am lucky! so tomorrow is cull day, I always hate it when this has to happen, it makes me feel physically sick. Hubby does them and then we dispose of them, we never ever eat the hens, I know when we were on a farm many years ago when i lived with my ex's in-laws, they had hens, and they'd boil them up, I don't think I could do that so I just don't. I am keeping my very old girl, and possibly the one that lay’s intermittently, the rest have to go. I know it sounds cruel but they were bought for egg production and they are now not producing.

Hello all
Dolly, it's a shame about the hens but I know what you mean. A few years ago we kept four and they supplied us with a constant supply of eggs. As they became older, egg production was reduced and finally a virus took them all off. By that time our children had left home so we didn't bother with any more.
The way food prices are going, however, we may rethink that, particularly as we have dug up the back lawn to grow vegies and the poultry manure would save us heaps on artififcial fertilisers.
As for the Cat laws, it was only a matter of time. We have always preferred cats to dogs but we have always been responsible and had all our cats sterilized.
