its difficult for a teacher to diferenciate the lesson for say 4 diff types of need for say 9 pupils when he/she has a class of say 32 see teachers specialise in a certain curriculum area which does not include SEN so instead of having then all locked up in a unit they are intergrated into mainstream and given the same opportunities as their peers but without ar help they may as well be back in the unit getting care for their particular condidtions ~ a wage still has to be paid someone it may as well go towards making a difference and aiding pupils to reach their goals

Lightens the teachers load? the teacher should be able to do her job , and why can the teacher not break down the work ?

FootieAngel

FootieAngel Report 22 Oct 2010 20:54

a classroom assistant or aid lightens the teachers load and a teaching assistant helps break down the work to enable the child to access the curriculum I went to remedial classes and yes I later got qualifications but left with nothing we give each child the opportunity to reach their potential there may be a number of reasons someone needs the help and intervention.

Amy Report 22 Oct 2010 20:51

Well I agree we had no classroom assistants in my day and yes we tided up after ourselves , which surely was a good thing to teach kids , then I think in the 70s what was called a remedial teacher was available for the slower pupils , so what is a classroom assistant or a teaching assistant for ?

FootieAngel

FootieAngel Report 22 Oct 2010 20:48

Neither did I ~ I did say I disagree and its not cos I am one etc I still disagree from my point of view an SEN pupil walked away with 13 and a half GCSE's in summer without ar intervention he would have got nowhere but he did that not us we only helped

i never said i was on about you mel
i dont know what you do
i am on about Class assistant in general
we never needed them and

they dont now its a waste of money we cant afford

teachers are well paid
i know i was responsible for interviewing them for their jobs
and they should be doing the job without fuss
if they cant do the job they shouldn't be doing it

FootieAngel Report 22 Oct 2010 20:40

I disagree (and its not cos Im a CA Im NOT Im a TA bit difference) they ar there for a number of reasons including reassurance of the children ~ me Im there to make a difference

JoyBoroAngel Report 22 Oct 2010 20:36

good answer rose and so true
so why pay some body to do it

it teaches the children responsibility
and we always had parents helping out in school for free

There a lot of old and empty buildings around and they could be put to good use for families if converted properly. In Eastbourne there is a lot of property suitable for housing but is left empty. A house in Newhaven has been empty for years when it would serve a family.

Persimmons/Taylor Wimpey are the largest house builders in the UK, when building private new homes they HAVE to build housing association properties (council houses) none of these are concrete prefabs!!!!

Carol, can you elaborate?

Rambling Report 22 Oct 2010 20:34

Answer for you Joy :))

We needed fewer teachers for larger classes ( after the first couple of years anyway) because the teacher stood at the front and the desks faced forward! None of this airy fairy 70s rubbish that put kids with their back to the teacher ( imo lol )

As for washing the paint pots etc, the children did that themselves, and filled the ink pots, handed out text books and cleaned the stockroom at the end of each term ( blimey I even remember polishing the desks ;))

claiming child befits for their kids back in Poland and go on claiming when they go home
they just get it paid through their British bank accounts

i also know Indians working here who also do it

SaltnPepper Report 22 Oct 2010 20:29

Oh to add, I have friends from Poland who run a car wash company from 8am to 8am. They are hard working and hands up to them! But, even they agree too many from their country and the likes come here to scrounge!!

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 22 Oct 2010 20:29

also when i went to school we had 42 kids to one teacher
never did me any harm

so why do some classes now need 2/3 class room assitants
class room assists are a waste of money
most of them only ever wash paint pots and tie shoe laces
if they need one let them have one only

Yes Dizzi, off the plane from Poland and the likes, all knowing that the UK is a soft touch when it comes to handing out benefits to foreigners.....!!

This country needs a serious shake up, stop the spongers, help the poor, help those who have made a genuine contribution to society, help the sick, help those who have worked and lost their jobs through redundancy illness and the like...........

STOP handing out money to gym slip mothers who get knocked up knowing full well the state will pay!!

Quite a bit of money is owed by foreign embassies in parking fines too!
In London alone, it amounts to £42 million!!!

Yet again - them's with money do what they bloody well want, while the rest of us pick up the tab!!!!
