So Footie why are you allowed to do work that clearly is not recognised if you dont get paid for it ?

SaltnPepper

SaltnPepper Report 22 Oct 2010 21:28

Carol, you said.......Tower blocks have been taken down that housed many who did not want/require a family sized house

answer:

Inner city tower blocks were, before the last gov came in and their recent budget changes were being demolished and replaced with modern housing which all of the residents were ecstatic about!!

Footie, if you are more experienced and qualified for what you get paid for, then that makes you a mug!! Why do a job and get paid for less than your worth??

Well Salt & Pepper, those awful inner city tower blocks were not the ones I was actually thinking of, those in a town local to me were.
Though those who owned their awful inner city tower block flats (through right to buy) were ecstatic all the way to the bank ... then down here to the coast where they could buy beautiful property with their profits lol

Here's my idea.

Stop all child benefits, all bus passes, all winter fuel allowances, all free TV licences - as of right

Means test them all. That way, those who need them, will get them.

Then increase the basic rate of tax to a level which will allow the national debt to be paid back.

There should be no need for these vicious cuts in services - if we are all truly in this together, then those of us who are lucky enough to have a decent job should be paying a bit more.

And don't get me started on what some people on this post are pleased to call "foreigners"

Obviously you do not watch Grand Designs. Prefabricated buildings are no longer the swiftly put up buildings of the post war years. Try Googling.

Mel enjoys helping those students, obviously that is payment enough for her.

My son has a half GCSE in Science. He took this at the end of year 10 but due to ill health was unable to sit the second half at the end of year 11.

When I was at school we did O'Levels and CSE's. Class sizes were 31 - 35 and we were streamed in to ability. If a child wasn't keeping up or progressing ahead of a lower group they would be moved at the beginning of the next term. If someone was way ahead of the top group was given extra lessons, usually at lunch time.

I also went to an all girls school. Although I don't think they are necessarily a good option, I do think that same sexed classes would be a good idea in mixed schools.

If teachers of the past were able to cope, how come the teachers of today can't?

SaltnPepper Report 22 Oct 2010 22:03

Sue, is your comment about "foreigners" aimed at me? ie because of my earlier post?

Go ahead!

Essex Baz Report 22 Oct 2010 22:06

Isn't it about time that all foreign aid was suspended by this country until such times we were in a much better financial position, and to close the doors on immigration, or maybe even come out of Europe, which means not making stupid payments to them, and to go back to making our own decisions for our OWN country.

SaltnPepper

SaltnPepper Report 22 Oct 2010 22:11

Essex Baz, well said..........but of course in this country if you mention the word "foreign" there are those who will decide you are a racist, anti ex British, blah blah

suzian

suzian Report 22 Oct 2010 22:11

Hi saltnpepper

It wasn't aimed at anyone in particular. I've read this whole thread and, to be honest, I can't remember who said what.

What I would say, however, is that we are all citizens of this world. And I can't for the life of me see why, because I was lucky enough to be borne into this country, I don't owe a bit of my good fortune to people who weren't this lucky

Can't help what other people think mate, foreign as far as I'm concerned is all that are not from this land. No offence meant of course.

suzian

suzian Report 22 Oct 2010 22:17

No offence taken, Baz. But what do you mean by "not from this land"?
