I've heard of vick on your feet too. I tried and i didnt cough that night ...worth a try BC.

Rose and Pat don't worry about mammograms. I've had two.
The first one, I was worried as i'd heard how painful it was etc.
Well, in my case ,both times,I hardly felt a thing. You just get a bit squashed and it's very tight, but it is only for a few seconds.

Thankyou Marion :) There's a lot to squash lol

Dear RR, mammograms are a piece of p***. had loads, even one a couple of weeks ago. Doesn't matter if there is a lot to squash, they will help you lift them on.
Good Luck

Its like slapping them on a plate lol

This never fails and I have posted this before, For hard to shift/chesty colds. Slice thinly one large onion, place layer in bowl cover with muscavado sugar and layer till finished finishing with sugar layer. Cover with cling film and place in fridge. after few hours a juice will appear, you can have as much as you like - NO it does not taste of onions the sugar kills that. It will cut phelgm. Has worked for 4 generations in this family that I know of. RR it is uncomfortable - that is all and could save your life!

Codeine. Doesn't "cure" a cough any more than anything else, but makes it go away and lets you sleep.

I can get cough syrup with codeine "behind the counter" here in Canada (you can't in the US, so we've always had to be very careful not to try to cross the border with non-prescribed 222s, aspirin with codeine, for instance). Dunno about you ... but since Julia's recipe has morphine in it ... !!

If you find a remedy that is a surefire winner, Ihave had my cough for 10 months, been on various antibiotics and still no joy. I apparently have a bug which is unusual in the lung, is usually found in the gut. Have to wait now for an appointment with a respiritory specialist.

ButtercupFields Report 21 Oct 2010 19:48

How awful for you Jean! I am so impatient and have only had this cough for several days. I love to sleep flat but find I have to almost sit bolt upright in bed to ease the cough.Hope you will get sorted soon.

And many thanks for all the suggestions. BC XX

Here is just one of my old Grannies cures, remove ones socks and rubs vicks on the soles of the feet put on clean fresh odd socks, take the socks you have removed and place one under your pillow and tie the other round you neck, take the 92 bus in to Manchester sit up stairs on the back seat and drink a bottle of scotchmac concealed in a brown paper bag, get off the bus and round backwards 3 times round the terminus and take the same journey back home, once home take the remaining scotchmac from bottle and add to a 2 pints of boiling water in to a bowl, removed the sock from your neck and add to the contents of the bowl, sit with your head facing inside the bowl and gently inhale ( more effective if you place a thread candy striped towel over ones head) , wait 40/60 mins, please don’t drink the contents of the bowl. Take the empty scotchmac bottle and fill with more boiling water, wrap a clean white bolster pillow case round said bottle and place under the Ida down , get in too bed and rest…by morning cough will be gone!

BC, is it a chesty cough? I always suffer with a cough for weeks after I've had a cold or flu. My Mum, God bless her, always used to make me take my cough medicine in some hot water as that helped break up the phlegm. If it's chesty then get some Covonia bronical balsam, if it's dry then Actifed red is good. Also doing steam inhalations with menthol crystals is good as well.
Hope this helps.
