Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 12 Oct 2010 05:21

I always read our local paper on line and look at the Family Notices, the name for Hatch and Matches etc

The other day I noticed a death notice for someone with a familiar name but it was just from his sisters whose names I didn't recognise.

Today I found a further notice, and it is the chap I knew. He was 67 and we go back to when we frequented the same pub and parties in 1965/70. I hadn't seen him for years and then last year was walking round an area of Norwich I hadn't been to in a long while, looking at an old factory where o.h. and I had both worked, at different times, me in the office, he in the workshops (Laurence and Scott Electromotors) The place is mostly closed down now and the offices had been made into posh apartments and this chap was coming out of one, I got a big hug and a kiss and we caught up with life a bit. Then earlier this year I saw him at our local supermarket with a young man who was so obviously his son, and again we had a chat. He seemed and looked very well, yet died last week in our local hospital. The notice was from his wife C and J. the dog and family. What a strange way to word things. I didn't know his wife but wish I could send a card to his son, he was so friendly and interested in things his Dad and I spoke of in the past. I have no idea what his name was or where he lives tho but don't want to send the card to the wife, it doesn't seem right.

67 doesn't seem old, with me at 63, and he really didn't look much different just a little balder and heavier than in those happier days.

Rest in peace, Mick.

Maybe I will phone the undertaker - he is an ex Norwich footballer of the era when I used to follow the team, they had a good Cup run in 1958 and got to the semi finals and I know him slightly. At least he could tell me what name to put on the card and pass it on to the son.
