Kay its took two years and several visits to actualy get diagnosed and treated I'm just grateful I'm being sorted out.

edit my Auntie had one of those after her throat cancer. She has to cover it to speak. Yes they used a suction to clear the mucus.

Kay????

Kay I have had been in hospital and more than once it was much lower without the inhalers. It was 170 this morning, but I'm on stand by not really knowing how I will be. If you read the start of the thread, I did say I'm whats called an "hospital job" below 130 is really dangerous and yes I've been there too and yes I was very ill. It was before they knew what was happening with my lungs and spent several hours thinking it was a heart attack and doing heart traces. I none to happy this is happening to me, but even bad guys like me get sick ~ its just something I have to learn to live with and get the most out of my life. A virus wipes me out completely but thank god for nebs. The sore throat I have at the mo is a struggle as my throat is closing up. I am just trying to get on with this.

Hi florence, thank you for your comments. Yes my red is Symbicort 200 I take 2 am and 2 pm and my blue is bricanyl 100 I can take up to 4 doses no more but my grey/purple as many as I need. I also take pills for my allergics. My pf is around 160 and the nebs are my friend. I have had a lot of bad throats from my inhalers and been told they have a mix of steriods and will put on weight and I get frequent headaches. Ifind also y mouth feels coated after taking them so have to rinse often. I feel lucky that I have finally got help, but also worried as i said on another thread so many of my ancesters on one line died young of lung related conditions and this makes me v low. thank you for you kindness shown towards me I know they are working hard to sort me out so soon I hope I can feel stronger.

hi there footie, i have been astmatic for nearly three years. it took 7 months of coughing fits every night and various trips to the doctors before being sent to a chest specialist. after some breathing tests and monitoring my peak flow, he diagnosed me with astma. i have a preventer inhaler called symbicort 400 which i take one puff in am and one puff pm. when i need extra i have a reliever called bricanyl and can take up to 12 puffs in 24/7.

they are both powdered inhalers tasteless and odourless which suits me fine. the ventolin which i tried first made me really sick and couldnt stand the smell.

when i was really bad coughing up to 4 hours a nite and sleeping on the sofa sitting up beacause i couldnt lay down, my peak flow was low at 190. my dr said if it was less than 180 and i had trouble talking i would need to get to hospital and go on a nebuliser. i thankfully have only had this twice and that was early days then.

mostly now my astma is under control and my peak flow is good around450/500. there are some foods which can make me wheezy and nuts is one of them along with chocolate worst luck.

i am also allergic to paracetamol and all antiinflamatory tablets as they seriously bring on an astma attack. so when i get a severe headache, i can only try to lie down and sleep if poss to get rid of the pain..

also november in the uk is the worst month for sufferers as it is the dampest time of year. but going into a hot house does me no good, i prefer it cooler and couldnt go abroad where its really hot, no way.

it took about 6 weeks once i got the right inhalers and then felt brand new. so i hope you find soon which suits you and keep checking your peak flow throughout the day.

good luck florence

Hi Rach, she (my Dr) is trying to maintain it. My pf was 160 again today so still falling short of about 300+. She is concerned about all the rashes I am getting and thinks they are not helping the asthma so she said cut out all nuts, but tbh I eat an helck of a lot of them for energy instead of something sugary. I have to try to keep my blood sugars up also so I should really have more glucose.

Hi Mel,

Hope your asthma is getting better. Did they think of any alternatives to nuts, or any particular nuts that you can still have?

Rach

FootieAngel Report 12 Sep 2010 19:13

As way of an update: I been told to lay off the nuts, (which is going to be extremly difficult for me as a nut erm lover lol) but I'm gunna give it a shot and hopefully my pf will at least stabalise if not begin to rise.
