so recently diagnosed, I am really surprised you are as confident as you are with dealing with these chronic episodes, and that the Drs are as confident as they are a sending you home as quickly as they do.

Hi Mel,

Sorry to read that you have been back to hospital.

Hope you have someone to take care of you too! I can understand yoru need to look after the children etc though. With a chest infection you must be exhausted and probably aren't getting much sleep.

I hope today brings some improvement. Get lots of rest and take care.

Cheers

Rach

Been to hospital today after been up all nite and pf had dropped 100 they put me on a neb and have give me more steriods (prednisolone) and antiboitics for a chest infection. Pills made me really drowsy and quite a fair bit out of it so please don't expect too much in way of sensible posts lol.

As Kay has mentioned Mel, you should have been blood tested for your potassium levels, they put you and themselves at risk for not doing so. I would be asking why they didnt do that.

FootieAngel

FootieAngel Report 16 Sep 2010 22:36

Kay I didn't have an attack I had probs breathing due to chest infection and restrictive airways caused my pf to be low. It caused me to hyperventalate but my bp and oxygen levels were ok. I just have an infection which is being treated and why I came home. Like I said there are others far worse of than I am.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 16 Sep 2010 22:27

mel when you have an asthma attack and your peak flow goes very very to a 100 as yours did.,it causes your heart rate to increase to an often dangerous level,

thats why heart monitoring is the norm.

potassium is used up very quickly and can be shot to bits.

,as without potassium you would die,,,,,so I'm suprised with a pf of 100,you wasnt blood tested and kept in for the results which can take 24hours,

They didn't check them Chris. I'm quite happy to be home. The hospital is literally 5 mins away. I still have 3 kids to think about 2 of which are still disabled. As well as other members of my family who need care. The fact that it has risen (if only slightly) is a good thing and I am being v sensible about everything.

I never heard of potassium levels until I was in hospital last year and it is the most foul thing to drink. I used to pur orange juice in it.

FootieAngel Report 16 Sep 2010 22:10

thank you ladies with respect I made the choice to come home, knowing that I can return if needs be. My pf has already risen to 120 which I know is still v low but my breathing is controlled and my chest pains subsided. I have no idea of potassium levels etc. I am an asthmatic with a chest infection many are far worse off than me.
