Ah. Rolled lasagna sheets. Hmm. Well, there's a reason I didn't think of that! It would about sextuple (excuse my French) the carbs per canelloni. I use the no-cooking-needed pasta, in a bunch of tomato and white sauce. The white sauce is the part I hate doing with a passion. As it stands, with all the fixtures and fittings, one canelloni (canellonus? canellono?) is 10 grams of carb in my recipe. Makes it really easy for the diabetes carb-counting deal.

Spinach dip, of course. Now Deb, isn't just buying President's Choice easier? ;) I don't use the veg soup mix because of the humongous amount of salt in those things -- I grate carrot and chop green onions. I'm just a regular June Cleaver, I am.

Surely you don't still stuff canelloni - not sure if it's the right spelling by the way:-)) I just cut fresh lasagne sheets in half and roll up the spinach/cheese mixture. I'm a lazy cook.

There's the "Bring an appie" to the party standby

Spinach Dip

Ingredients
1 cup mayonnaise
1 (16 ounce) container sour cream
1 (package (dry) Knorr Vegie soup mix
1 (4 ounce) can water chestnuts, drained and chopped
1/2 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
1 (1 pound) loaf round sourdough bread

Directions
1.In a medium bowl, mix together mayonnaise, sour cream, dry soup mix, water chestnuts and chopped spinach. Chill in the refrigerator 6 hours, or overnight.
2.Remove top and interior of sourdough bread. Fill with mayonnaise mixture. Tear removed bread chunks into pieces for dipping.

I will be spending this Saturday morning sitting on the chesterfield stuffing an army of spinach and cheapo cottage cheese (and I add a ground beef/pork mix) canellonis myself. I adopt your spelling, so it had better be right. I make up two suppers + several lunches for No.1 at a time.

Or maybe not. With EastEnders being withdrawn from me ... cooking prep and East Enders were symbiotic on a Saturday morning: cooking prep is mindnumbing by itself, but so is 2 hours of EastEnders somewhat. No.1 may find his diet going downhill.

I'll get around to offering up that chicken saag recipe eventually. Canelloni was second on the list, for the frozen spinach + tinned tomatoes combo. Then spinach quiche with a side of gazpacho. Then I run out of things to do with frozen spinach.

Don't you just hate people who one-up you? The husband must've eaten loads of iron to get iron poisoning. Why would you do that to yourself? The only way I like spinach is in spinach and ricotta canelloni or pastries - yum.

Well suzian, a naan would have been my personal preference, but then it would have seem so much easier just to eat the danged thing. ;)

Spinach, DET, is high in one of those special vitamin thingies, lutein or selenium or one of them, that are thought to protect against macular degeneration. They say frozen because by the time spinach has sat around in your fridge for a few days it's lost a lot of its vitamin thingies, whereas the frozen is preserved at its freshest. Ditto for the tinned tomatoes, I gather from recently googling this ancient folk wisdom. ;)

One of the last times I was at my current ophthalmologist's (I just feel like I have to wipe my lower lip after saying that, even in my head), I hit a technician person who was one of those "anything you've got ..." I was whining in my amusing way about my eye travails, and how everything that could ever possibly go wrong had done it in my eye. She one-upped me with macular degeneration; did I have that? She did. Ah, I said, just wanting to bond with her a little as one does in one's own interests in such situations, my dad did have, and was she eating her frozen spinach? And she one-upped me with the husband who'd eaten so much spinach he got iron poisoning or however she put it. I gave up at that point.

Spinach? A Paediatrician said 25 years ago that it didn't contribute iron to the system, but actually collected the 'spare' and helped its way out of the body Have they changed their minds??

Well, the trick with frozen spinach is to thaw it and then squish it, in small handfuls, to get out the water (and probably all the nutrients to, I'd imagine).

Now, to get the full benefits of this thing you wish to smoke, you should dip it first in tinned tomatoes, another of not-quite-nature's miracle foods. Perhaps roll it in a moistened chapati.

Then dry thoroughly, I would imagine.

I think I'd add some good-quality curry powder to the spinach before rolling. Enjoy with a chicken sandwich, and it should approximate one of my favourite dinners, chicken saag.

AuntyS: feed him frozen spinach. I've been meaning to offer up my frozen favourite spinach recipes. After I find my slide rule.

My dad had macular degeneration, and it's a little bit hereditary. I should eat more frozen spinach. And smoking nags should have to eat frozen spinach for breakfast, lunch and supper.
