sorry to hear that gillian, youve had such a rough time, but really pleased at ohs recovery, did he have any idea? that must of been such a shock, i still remember sitting in your lovely conservatory xxx

Just last september my husband was admitted to hospital with suspected appendicitus, ended up being bowel cancer. After an agonising few weeks after having a stent fitted to clear the blockage he was operated on, took 7 hours, but he was given the all clear, no more trerastment necessary, although he has had a few uti's he is doing well, and back to working. Hope for us all xx

ahh alyson, try and keep going, nothing ie ever easy, i dont now why, and jean is write why does it take them 3 weeks to make, wonder how they would feel if it was there husband dad ect, hopefully befor the summer you will be able to put all this behind you, i guess you havent had time to think about one yet, but mayby you both could have a weekend away by the sea. xx

I may be going in a day or 2 earlier , the hospital phoned the day after my pre med to say my iron was very low at 9.7, so the vampire assistant is going to have a word with the surgeon to plan ahead, so monday i will pick iron tabs up and wait.

Alyson, everything seems to take so long to get sorted. Why should it take solong to get a mask made? Keep your chin up girl and try to remain positive. At least they are trying to help.

Alyson, poor hubby, it is a long job isn't it, I hope that he is comfortable and that the mask won't take too long to make. :-)

I am well thankyou.
Hubby was admitted into hospital on Wednesday as he was so dehydrated and had lost another 8lb in weight. They have kept him on fluids through the drip and have stopped everything orally because of a perferation in his throat. They are afraid that what he is eating and drinking will go to his lungs through the perferation. He had to have a new radiotherapy mask made yesterday but it usuallly takes 3 weeks to complete but they are trying to get it done sooner. Until that is made he cannot continue with the radiotherapy. I was looking forward to next Friday as that was his last day of radiotherapy. Goodness knows how long it will go on for now. They have also decided to give him a blood transfusion to help pep him up a bit. When he comes home he will have to be fed through the drip overnight. They will show us how to work the machine.

Yes it was a bit of a downer, especially as she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at the same time, then a month later I had to start treatment for the basal cell. Still there are plenty worse off than us I'm sure.

Ann i hope your daughter continues to get better, how awfull for all of you at xmas, xmas always seems to magnify things i think xx

Robert I am sorry to hear about your wife. my daughter had a grade 2 lump just before christmas, found at the first mammogram after she was 50. Her lump was grade 2 and the only lymph node affected was the sentinel so she has not had to have chemo, just 3 weeks of radio therapy and fortunately not a mastectomy, but she is on tamoxifan which she tells me will accelerate the menopause so I assume it depends what age you are whether they put you on that one, she has had no side affects from it other than menopausal side affects, and, as Jean says is not able to have her BP taken in that arm or injections.

Robert, 10 yrs ago I had a breast removed. plus the glands under the arm. If this is done, you may not have your blood pressure taken in this arm, nor blood taken from it as a safeguard against infection. I was also given a new drug in tablet form, which didnt agree with me, so I opted for going on tried and tested Tamoxifen. Ten and abit years later, I hardly think about it and my falsie is very similar to my good breast, can wear quite tight fitting tops with no problem. Attitude of mind helps. If yo tell yourself you are going to get over it, you start with an advantage, rather than panicking and dwelling on it. She may be offered a reconstruction, This is up to her. My Husband said, why bother with another operation, but it was down to me in the end. Good uck to your wife, and keep positive, both. <3

My Wife has just been diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time, the first time being 15 years ago.

Obviously treatments have changed and in addition to lumpectomy / mastectomy "tablets" have been suggested. Anybody any experience of them?

Yes, Puss, you would have an anaesthetic to remove your gallbladder. My guess is that you have had these pains in your side for a long time. I get them sometimes from my gallstones, but mine are bearable, and with OH poorly i dont want an operation yet.
Sounds as if the letter was sent to you by mistake an the doctor may have the one meant for you!
The gynaecologist wouldnt touch the gallbladder as it is not his area of concern, but they might be able to get someone else into theatre who could cope with it. Its not unknown for more than one team to be there. Just go wth the flow and let them take the strain, thats what they are paid for. A surgical mistake does their reputation no good at all, so all the stops will be pulled out for you.
Another thing, if there were no patients, a lot of staff would be out of work so dont feel unable to ask questions.

Well im now petrified ive had a letter come this morning, and i thin it was meant for my gp, it says that they are looking at something being possibly sinister "possibly" is giving me hope, and they are concerned about a general because of my swollen gall bladder etc, surely you would have a some sort of anesthetic to remove that and stones etc, thankgod i have my premed tomorrow, after all this if there is no spread of cancer i will strip off and run round the streets in my scooter shouting hurray, i feel my heart is beating so fast all the time , will feel better after tomorrow. :-0
