The first time cancer affected my immediate family was the end of last year, i would say that i wasn't that close with my step dad and mum, we clashed from a early age and i felt i had no support from them when i needed it most, the attitude was" you have made your bed now lie in it ".
All of a sudden i was devastated i didn't want this man who had been in my life loving my mum for the last 30 yrs to die, my mum took it really bad and told me she was weak and would not be able to get through this again , as she lost her 1st husband when he was 32, best place for him but he was still her husband and loved her, i told my mum i would take care of them and everything was going to be OK, i spoke to my GP she told me he would die !! i couldn't tell my mum that we had to remain positive.

SO my Sdad was admitted to the Richard salt ward where his first penile cancer tumour was removed, they removed most of his penis ,did some scans patched him up and sent him home 7 days later, now we knew he had an appointment 14 days later but we stupidly thought that was to remove stitches or check healing, i did wonder if we were going to get results too but Sdad was adamant that it was all clear, any way Mr foster told us they had found a second tumor and the rest of his penis his lymph nodes in the groin and he would have a new area down below to urinate obviously now we new we had to wait for the 2 week appointment think again, but out of the blue Mr foster tells S dad that they managed to get all the cancer and it had not gone into the lymph nodes so we presume he is not going to tell us any different in 10 days .
Sdad is on his way home sore but happy, through this ordeal me my mum my dad have become very close and nothing more needs to be said about the past , another thing happened too, mum says its a generation thing but if dad tells mum he loves her she says don't be soft , now they have learned they can hug and cry and openly tell each other they love each other, which i know will help with the way dad will have to adapt to his new needs, thank you for reading and thankyou daff for your help xxxxx
