Puss

good on you for calling so quickly about that lump

Good luck on Monday

I use a herbal tea to help me sleep. The one I use is made in the US, and there are two strengths ... Sleepytime and Sleepytime Extra.

I had trouble sleeping after I had the mastectomy .................. it was painful to turn over so I woke up every time I needed to move

That was still happening about 4 months later, so I went to the doc. He said my brain was remembering that it hurt, so it would wake me up, thus my brain needed re-training.

He prescribed Amitryptylidine, 10 mg, to be taken mdi-evening ...................... it took about 6 weeks but I did eventually stay asleep. Now this is normally used in a stronger dose for depression ....... but it can also be used at a low dose as a sleep aid.

Now I think I have age-related insomnia ............. sleep about 4 or 5 hours, wake up and find it difficult to go back to sleep for a couple of hours

But at least the tea helps to give me 4 to 5 hours solid sleep.

Mum had a lot of radiotherapy when her breast cancer spread to her bones - no hair loss or nausia, she just felt very tired and sometimes had patches of red skin which was hot. She was given cream to put on the patches to soothe them and they calmed down reasonably quickly. Once she'd had the first treatment Mum never dreaded having to go because it worked so well for her. I hope it goes well for your stepdad.

And good luck for Monday Puss

Puss, you have done the right thing. If the worst should be diagnosed, at the small size you say, you should be able to get away with a lumpectomy anyway, But fingers crossed it will just be a benign lump.

Hello everyone had a great holiday, dad is having problems with his temper at the moment by being short tempered but all went well and it was a good break xx

Thanks daff, ive had a read and hopefully the side affects wont get him, the harsher ones seem quite rare. xx

I found a small pea sized lump in my right breast whilst away so appointment made for monday, its not attached and moves very freely so not too concerned but realise i have to get it checked.

Hiya Annie, yes, I get my sleepless nights... I spoke to my consultant, and I use something called Nytol on a bad night.... it is herbal, and over the counter, however... I am not taking very much (steroids just now, and also plain old blood pressure tablets) so you will need to speak with your medics first, as you are taking meds all the time... or even the pharmacist, as they will know what is safe to use. I get off fine, normally, but wake up after a couple of hours and just can't get back off.

Also, I often find that a plain, ordinary painkiller will help me drift back off to sleep... that takes about half hour to work.

The mind works overtime in the middle of the night, doesn't it?

Take care

Love

Am suffering a lot of insomnia at the moment, trouble getting to sleep or very interupted sleep.

Was wondering if any of you have had this and what you did?

Are there any sleeping pills that you would recommend? I am not wanting to have them all the time but only as a last resort every now and then.

Puss, it might be an idea to read up a bit on the effects of Radiotherapy, just so that you have all the up to date info for your mum.

While it is true that modern radiotherapy treatment is not as it used to be, it can still make people (not all, but some) feel quite poorly indeed. Similar, in fact, to the effects of some chemotherapies.

You need to be aware of that, so that you know how best to advise your SDad if he starts to feel any of these things.

is a good place to start.

Hi annie glad you took a break the medical staff have a lot to answer for sometines, when Sdad went to the hospital to see how the biopsy had gone , this was a month later the doctor said to my Sdad what can i do for you, my Sdad replied and said its about my biopsy, the doctor replied its very bad news im afaraid but im not in a position to discuss this with you then walked out, about 15 minutes later the consultant went on to tell him he had cancer, this is the 2nd negligent thing that happened.

hi sylvia xx

Hi Annie, I take lanzaprozol for my stomach acid, it helps a lot. I was doing the same as you, having to sit up in bed, my stomach gets very painful if I run out of tablets and miss just one day of them. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi all,

I have already told OH that the dietician can go to buggery, I am not changing what we eat. Of course I will look for the healthier option where it is available but other than that she can piss off. She already booked me another appt but I am tempted not to go to it. I just didn't like her tone. The fact she couldn't even research my condition or medication prior to the appt (when she had a detailed referral from my specialist) pisses me off. I don't like her.

Reece, I don't have any family near me. Ours is one of those families where one doesn't talk to the other. I was born and now live again in NZ but spent 20 years in Oz. That is where my parents, sister, neices and nephew are, and that is where I am happy for them to stay. When I had a msg passed to them about what was wrong with me they didn't give a shit. All my father could say to my friends was "sorry to hear that" and then proceeded to talk about himself and didn't care about me. Then my evil mother had the nerve to post me a letter saying that I should go home to them and they would look after me. I posted that letter back to her which I know would have pissed her off, haven't heard a thing since LOL :-)

OH and I had massive arguments over the weekend which left me feeling very down and extremely upset as he said some terribly nasty things. I ended up getting an apology out of him and he claims that he didn't mean what he said. His explanation was that he is finding it difficult to cope with my mood swings. I tried to explain to him that I cannot control at the moment how I feel. I told him that I know I have been horrible to live with lately but I can't get rid of my anger and unfortunately I have been lashing out at him. Everything seems to have settled down for now. How long that will last I don't know.

Ended up taking a few days away from work cos I was so upset. Back at work today though so will see how I go. I woke up in the nite choking on vomit. Was very scary. My throat was burning. I had some water to drink but every time i layed back down, I could feel the stomach acid coming from my stomach to my throat. I had to grab an extra pillow and sleep in an elevated position.
