You're welcome Carol.

Brenda, I googled it.... it looks soooo promising! I will keep everything crossed, and send your whole family my positive thoughts for your DiL. And to those who are treating her. May their skills bear fruit.

(((((hugs))))) for you, as well. It must be even harder, as you are so far away from your family right now.

Love

Daff xxxxxxxx

Daff...glad you googled it.It just shows that all the time they are bringing out new ways of treating these tumours.
I spoke to my son last night and she has already had her programme sorted to start treatment next week.
She is amazing, she was making cup cakes with her 9 year old and doing all her housework etc.He says that her steroids are keeping her hyperactive.I said that they don't make my OH that way at all and he is on a huge dose!!
Thank you for the positive thoughts and hugs and to all those who need to talk this thread is a great help.

Best wishes to you all.

Hi
We have not long found out that my Aunt has brain cancer she has undergone all the tests and I am sad to say it has spread through out the rest of her body so there is nothing that can be done for her
She is at home now with her family as this is what she wanted they have finally managed to get her morphine to a level where she is not in pain I know she intends to stay at home for as long as possible
So now it is just a matter of time
She is being very brave about the whole thing and taking each day as it comes as we all are
I think this thread is a wonderful idea for those who are going through cancer or had cancer
And for the people around them to get a bit of support
Hugs to all
PP xx

Lynne Report 5 Jun 2010 16:17

My lovley mum was diagnosed with cancer in the colon in January but it had spread down into her pelvic area and growing onto her right ovary, she is to fragile to have any surgery or chemo. So we have to just sit and see her suffer, she now eats or drinks very little she has constant diorreha, she has had 6 units of blood over the last 4 weeks but has said whats the point in prolonging my life as its no life at all.
My mum had no symptons until the diorreha started last October but her consultant told us that the tumour has being growing over the last 10 years. This is a very silent cancer so all those who have any reletives with bowel cancer get yourselfs screened, although you can be screened at 60 if you have a family history of bowel like me with my mothers father also dying of bowel cancer your GP will screen you, its a simple blood & stool test mine came back all clear but I will be screened again in 2 years. Its my mum who kept going on to me to get it done and shes pleased I did.

So god bless you Mum I love you.

Hi Lynne, so sorry to hear about your mum, I had bowel cancer in 2004, stage 4 ,I had the same symptoms as your mum for 4 years. before diagnosis as I was told I had irritable bowel. when i started bleeding I knew it was more than that. It went to my liver, and thyroid. I also lost my lovely mum during this time with the same thing. I am pleased you have tested clear and they are keeping an eye on you.
bless you both , thinking of you

Brenda, so sorry to hear the news of your d.i.l, she had been doing so well. I am pleased that you were able to see her not long ago when she was over there for the wedding. Its so sad that it has come back. My thoughts are with you all xxxxxx

Daff, I will check with my specialist next time I go there. To be honest I hardly ever that the ibuprofen, I rely mainly on the codeine. I am too nervous to take anything else cos of all the different interactions that can happen. Its too scary. The nose bleeds are not very frequent at all and only the teeniest amount of blood and then it stops. I had put it down to blowing nose too much. Every one at work is getting the flu and I keep getting a runny nose and my body is constantly fighting flu. Makes me angry that they don't stay at home and get well and instead come in and make us all sick, they all know I can't take they same medications as they can yet they persist in coughing and spluttering and sneezing all over the place.

Annie,
Thank you for your thoughts for my d.i.l.
Yes she did very well coming over 12 months ago for her sister's wedding so soon after her radiotherapy on her sternum and her hip operation,on her own too,and she travelled all over the country seeing her friends.
She is a very determined lady and both her and my son are still very positive,in fact she is going to Fiji for 3 weeks on her own after the new treatment on her brain tumours.Don't ask me to explain this,as I find it hard to understand why.My son has said that it is a chance for her to relax in a place that they loved when they had a holiday there.
He says that it is her lottery ticket and could help her.He is taking the time off work between jobs to look after the children.

Annie,I do follow your progress on FB although I don't use it much for putting things on,I mainly look at photos. If you look at Mike on my friends you will probably see some photos of them in Mulwala at Easter.

Positive thoughts for everyone.

I contacted a herbalist a week or so ago as I have become interested in trying some natural therapies in addition to the medication that I am on as I had read about some herbs that may be of benefit. She totally put me off trying anything and reckoned that some of the herbs would make me really ill.

Am off to see a dietician today to have help with diet etc as since I have been on the chemo pills have put on heaps of weight but don't really eat huge amounts of food that would cause me to get bigger. Have had a huge increase in boob size too lol getting a bit tired of going to the bra shop to get bigger bra's. OH keeps joking am I up to size z yet, told him they don't make them that big. He either gets an evil stare, a pinch or a punch depending on my mood LOL

Dietician called in sick. Got a phone call from the clinic to reschedule the appt. Don't see her/him till the 18th June, so will have to wait and see what happens.

Then I have an appt at the womens clinic at the hospital in July for screening for cervical cancer. They have been monitoring me for the last 2-3 years as cells have changed.

Annie ...and for anyone who is interested, have a look out for the book..."THE Journey" by Brandon Bays.I read it when my d.i.l was over here 2 years ago and it is a very interesting read, especially for anyone with cancer.
