good morning all. -2 here at the moment there was a frost but I don't think as hard as yesterday, no fog this morning thank goodness, it lasted the whole day yesterday and was very depressing to look out at. Friend ( neighbour across the road)coming for coffee/tea this morning. 8 weeks ago she fell and broke her arm, still not healed so she is a bit fed up.

Morning all,

Not as sunny here as it has been over the last couple of days and still cold and also frost but not as hard as it has been again.

Pc says 4 degrees this morning and cloudy so thats something to look forward to.

I have some bits on ebay which finishes today so I better go and have a look.

Hope you all slept well or well enough to get through the day.

It is good that you are eating well Mel so often people on their own don’t. Having said that tonight I had fish cakes and beans. Fish cakes cooked in the air frier.

I usually cube mine and cook it and mash it and add a bit of butter and pepper or some clotted cream if I have it. Thats the Devon way. Once it cold I put it in small freezer pots or yoghurt pots cover it with foil and feeze it in portions. I have a freezer full of indivual dinners at the mo. There's chicken casserole, veg soup, mince in gravy and cauli cheese, tender stem broccoli, roast pots and yorkshire puds, plus two more portions of liver and a nice piece of rump steak which would do two days. O and a sheep sh*t pie with no potato on top yet and one more bubble and squeak, I'm having that other one with tonights stew and a dough boy.

I suppose it is trial and error depending on the size of your swede ,the one I saw was a lady on fb ,I would say it was a medium sized swede she had but she did say you need to peirce it all over and cook in microwave for twelve minutes .

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Jan 2023 15:54

I have tried cooking swede that way Mandy with a smaller swede but there seems to be no timing recommended all I could find was try it and test so easy to under or over cook. I found when one worked it was OK but somehow didn't taste quite the same and was a bit grainy.

Afternoon all,

Very frosty day here ,nice sunshine but the frost is still laying in the shade ,it was really slippery this morning poor old max was slipping on the slabs when he went out first thing.

So it's better cooking things on low then Anng ,I tend to cook on high because of the time as its usually getting on in the day when I sort out whst to do .

I saw a lady cooking her swede in the microwave ,pierce the swede all over no need to peel it, cook for about twelve minutes and then you just scoop out the swede and it looked lovely and soft so I'm going to try it that way next time I cook swede ,you can see how it's done on you tube .

Mel thats good you've sorted your battery it's a nuisance when you go out to the car and it's not holding the charge and won't start .

Glad you had a better night's sleep Vera ,fancy the Christmas card taking all that time ,it makes you wonder how many cards are still in bags somewhere waiting for delivery.

AnninGlos Report 21 Jan 2023 13:17

Vera :-D tell her it is really an early one for next Christmas. Save a stamp. I still have 11 missing, I know some of them probably didn't bother but difficult to know which ones and a couple are a bit of a worry because they are my age or older and you never know. I do know one posted here in the village has not arrived.

Yes it is annoying with the size of veg. I am assuming ther were no small ones as they are usually quite good reading the notes. I know I can freeze it but with a large one it is difficult for me to hold and peel it I suppose I could cut it and then peel it. I have never frozen swede. would you cube it and freeze raw or cook and mash and freeze?

I have done the floors and dusted lounge and dining room. But the fog makes everything look so miserable. It is still thick, I am so pleased I don't have to go out. And I think the heating may be going on very soon.

SuffolkVera Report 21 Jan 2023 13:07

You never know what size you are getting in the delivery. I often order a couple of pears. Sometimes they’re about the size of my thumb and the next time they are huge. As I’m now only having a delivery about every 3 weeks I order a bit of veg for the first week or so and then go shopping for more later on.

Just had a text from OH’s niece to say my Christmas card, posted on 9th December, had just arrived!

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Jan 2023 13:00

O I have just ordered a new battery for the car as I can't go on like this when it won't start. I have asked Em to pick my paper up and some milk and bread from the shop but she's at a football match with the boys at the mo and I am hoping she gets back before the shop closes at 2pm.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Jan 2023 12:58

Thats when I miss going shopping and picking the size you want. I used to buy a small swede and just a few loose sprouts but now I have to have what they send and most of the time its too much. You'll have to cook it all and freeze it in portions like I do.

Suns beautiful here today and its now up to 5 degrees with a very gentle breeze.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Jan 2023 12:03

.Well no sun here at the moment. Apparently two miles up the road where it is higher than here, the sun is shining. We must be in a real dip as whenever there is fog it lasts for ages here. Should be used to it.

Tesco has been. In ny note I asked for a small swede. I dread to ask what size I would have had if I had asked for a large one.

Its good you had more sleep Vera and the back is feeling a little better. Now take it easy today and don't over stress yourself.

It has risen to 1 degree here now and the suns still shining.

I have to do the shop this morning as usual for my paper and some bits. They sell really nice ham so I shall have a couple of slices of that. May make a quiche today will see how I feel later.

I am trying to get together some minitures to put on ebay but keep getting distracted. You know what its like when you have to do something and you don't want to do that or something else crops up and you do that instead.

Banty needs a clean out too so I have a few options for the rest of the day.

Had a nice long shower this morning so I think I shall put the washing in first.

Good morning all

Very cold and frosty but there are blue skies and sunshine. It’s the sort of day that tempts you outside only to turn you into a pillar of ice the second you step outside the door.

I’m feeling more cheerful this morning. I got a bit more sleep last night and think there is a slight improvement in my back, though I’m still groaning every time I move.

My neighbour’s wife hasn’t tested positive for Covid yet. Tbh I am surprised neither of them have had it before. They are both vulnerable but all through the lockdowns they were going out and having people in their house, and taking all sorts of risks.

We are still getting cakes etc from our neighbour the other side but much less frequently now. It’s more like once a month instead of once a week.

I’m off to do a little light dusting now. I’m not doing anything very energetic at the moment. Stay warm and have a nice day.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Jan 2023 10:16

temp is -3 here now and thick freezing fog.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Jan 2023 08:30

Morning Anng and all,

Realloy frosty out there this morning but I think the sun is going to shine as its trying. Pc says -1 and the cars frosted right over windows doors the lot is all white. and it has a crew cut but no fern patterns.

I have seen three Robin's around the bird feeder this mroning all together and no fighting yet.

The deer have been coming in the garden this week too and the blimmin rabbits. The deer have started on the day lillies already so they must have their first shoots up and the snowdrops in the orchard have been up for two weeks and I kept forgetting to tell you. They are very sparce at the mo but will thicken up a bit later on.

AnninGlos Report 21 Jan 2023 08:17

Good morning all. A very hard frost this morning but the temp has come up to 0 degree now well that is according to alexa. According to my pc it is -5, however that seems to cover anywhere between here and Wiltshire so who knows.

Tesco due this morning one acceptable sub and one not available that is not important, but I do always find it strange when an item is unavailable to deliver that has not been unavailable late afternoon before.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 20 Jan 2023 21:32

As long as it is at least 7 hours. Cubed chicken breast can be a bit shorter but normally carrots and potatoes need the longer time.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 20 Jan 2023 20:24

Anng is the meat nice and tender when it's cooked on low ?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 20 Jan 2023 19:37

I only ever cook on low for about 7 hours.
