Not a particularly good day for me, 2 years ago was T's funeral.

So some of them are thirty years old, no wonder there are so many. Are the photos from this year? You are very lucky as they are gorgeous.

Morning Anng and all,

I too had funny dreams last night but for the life of me I can't remember what they were about or who. It could have been people I knew a long while ago after talking to Deirdre yesterday.

Its colder here at 4 degrees and pc says mostly cloudy but there is a little blue sky showing behind the white and grey cloud.

BIL is coming agian today so I better stir myself and get in the shower and have a hoover of all the bit the plumber brought in the dayu before going in and out of the front and back doors. I could'nt face it yesterday.

Anng as to your question about the snowdrops. They were here when mum moved in in 1987. Years ago it was a market garden and the people took flowers to convent garden. Up the top garden, where I don't venture anymore, there are all snowdrop on the east bank and there were also snowdrops on the land OH owned out the front of us. I pinched some before anyone live there in 1992 cos they were taller than the ones we had in the garden and I put them, about 10 of them, up at the south facing wall. I now have 5 bunches of those growoing up there so they must have spread well. I put the crocus in amongst them a few years ago but got them in late hence there not many but they are increasing too.

Good morning all. Very dark and cloudy grey here, 6 degrees, no frost.
Tesco due later no subs nothing unavailable so that is good.
Friend coming round for coffee later.

I had a weird night. Literally slept an hour at a time and that hour was filled with dreaming. Dreams were full of people I know or knew.
I didn't get to bed until 11.30 as I stayed up watching the programme with Burt Bacharach and his band talking playing the piano and singing his songs and others singing his songs. Not sure when the programme was made he was quite old then. Lovely to hear the music. Probably why I slept badly.

The snowdrops are beautiful Mel. There must be thousands of them. How long have they been there to spread like that?

Gwyn in Kent Report 11 Feb 2023 18:22

How lovely to chat to your friend, Mel after such a long time.
The years just melt away when you get talking like that :-D

What wonderful displays of snowdrops.. so many! They look beautiful and must really cheer the cold days for you.
Thank you for sharing.

Vera, I hope your eye continues to improve and is less painful.
You did well to have a walk today, but don't overdo it, will you?
I'm sure that your stew will be a welcome meal today and tomorrow... so warming in this chilly weather.

Glad your feeling a bit better Vera.

My BIL turned up just as I ws about to go to the hsop for the paper etc so that was good I did'nt have to lock up. He has put new blades on the old mower so it should be all ready to start mowing when it needs it but one of the pulleys has stopped working so he has to get a new one of those as it runs a belt which is why the belt broke in the first place. Theres always something conking out.

Then my best friend from Suffolk rang and I hav'nt spoken to her for years. We always send cards for Christmas and birthdays and I did write in her that I had lost oh and thought it funny she did'nt ring me then. I tried to get in touch with her through email but she had changed her address. We talked for 31 minuets.

BIL has now gone home and its all nice and quiet here again. I gave him coffee and two sausage multi seeded rolls to keep him going and a nice strong coffee. So thats been my day, O I did clean the big girls out while he was here too.

Happy Birthday Mandy.

Lovely to see your family on your special day

Our local bus is being recontinued after today, so I made a point of using it for the last time :-(
It's been rather cloudy and dull with just hints of brightness, but seems milder, so I took myself off to the beach having first checked tide times.
It was fairly quiet there with wide stretches of sand exposed. 2 young boys were their with their family and each boy was making good use of the vast space to race their remote control cars... They were having a great time.
There were a few dogs out for walks and some were enjoying dashing into the water..... no dogs allowed on that beach May to September. All of them seemed to be well controlled, whether on a lead or not.
I actually walked on the beach myself spotting the different types of shells in the sand. Then I sat up on the sea wall watching the tide come in.
I could watch the sea for ages :-D
A walk along the promenade was next before cutting through between some houses to catch the bus to near my house for the last time.

I can still get to the sea after we lose our bus, but it will mean walking about half a mile to the main road and back.

Thanks AnnG. I'll respond on the book thread.

I'm pleased you are having a good day Mandy (even if you are left with all the coffee mugs to clear away). That is sad about your hairdresser. Sixty is no age at all. Her family will miss her

It must be great to have a warm house again Mel and the heat must be better for your hips and knees than getting cold.

I hope your pain is subsiding a bit now Island.

Lovely to see the snowdrops Gwyn. We usually take a trip to either Ickworth or Anglesey Abbey in February for the snowdrops but we haven't managed it yet this month.

It's been a very overcast day with no sun to cheer the place up but it is quite a bit warmer. Computer at the moment is saying 10 degrees. I had a good night, sleeping from about midnight to 6 am without waking.

My eye is much better today. It's still sore but it's no longer watering and the black spots have disappeared. They were weird "floaters" as there seemed to be quite a lot floating at shoulder height a bit in front of me. I felt as though I was walking into a swarm of flies all the time. Until I see the doctor I won't know whether the jabs have helped or not but my gut feeling is that things have not got any worse so I think the jabs have at least stabilised my sight

I did manage a short walk today. With migraines, painful eyes and bad weather I have almost forgotten what my legs are for but I wanted an item that was out of stock when Sainsburys delivered, so I walked to the local Co-op. I managed to get what I wanted. It's only just over a mile there and back but at least I moved my legs a bit :-)

I put two days worth of stew in the slow cooker this morning so that will do for tonight and tomorrow. OH will just have to forgo his Sunday roast.

I think it's time for a cuppa and a read of the newspaper now. "See" you tomorrow.

Afternoon all,

Thank you for my cards ,Mel haven't got yours yet but our post is still all over the place so it will come when it comes :-)

Had the family here and then my sister and bil came so a busy morning .

Anng you asked about the hairdresser ,no she doesn't have a young family she was sixty but does have two sons with grandchildren, one who I know will miss her terribly as he was really close to her.

Vera hope your getting over that trauma to your poor eye and that it's less sore today .

Mel thats good you now have a nice warm home again ,it's now that you need a nice bit of rain to help wash away all the outside mess.

Better get the dishwasher loaded up now with all the coffee mugs and our lunch things .

Just got to clear the mess up after him like washing down where he bled the rads and the rusty stain outside where he drained the rads.

Shop to do as well and Em's eggs to deliver and hope George is clear of covid by now. I shan't go in again but leave them outside as I did last week.

Vera hope your feeling better today and your poor eye is not giving you much pain.

Good morning all grey here but 7 degrees so milder again. Not that I am going anywhere today.

I am sure that you are glad it is all fixed Mel and I hope that the bill is not too high. Good to have the heating working properly.

Mandy that is sad about your hairdresser. such a shock when that happens so suddenly. was she young with young children?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 Feb 2023 18:32

He's gone and the heating is now working properly and the leak had a new piece of pipe put in. The only thing was he askled me for a radiator key and I gave him one which he broke but I have another brass one which I was'nt going to give him. He came with his this morning and said thye were on a lanyard, two of them but he could'nt find them after going home for lunch. Said he wiould send the bill later as he had to go and buy pipe and stuff to put in the rads to flush them out and stuff to put in the rads to stop them going rusty, inhibitor I trhink he called it.

Vera you must have been in so much pain with your last injection to have jumped like that. Mum only stood three and would'nt go anymore. I think she was a bit scared as she was blind in one eye and the injections were in the other one. Hope you feel better tomorrow and not so sore.

I went up in the loft today!!! Oh would'nt let me up there and now I know why. I found my big dustpan and he has left loads of polythene and cardboard boxes up there from when he did the boarding up there and the lagging and all the boxes are still up there from the legs the boards went on. I did bring down my 4 seasons pictures, a long broom handle and some of my vintage cloths and the clothes are in the washing machine with a quilt cover which I think maybe a singkle or small double but its very flowery with big roses on a dark background of navy blue so that can go to the charity shop once I have washed it.

I also gave the plumber 4 pairs of overalls so thats more things out of the way too.

Apart from that I hav'nt done and HW and now with all the ins and outs I badly need to hoover. The other thing is where he drained the rads of all the muck was right at the bottom of the steps down from the patio to the garden so that all needs wshing down now too.

Evening all,

Just had a bit of a shock phone call ,our hairdresser has passed away ,she had an aneurysm, they rushed to hospital and then transferred her to Addenbrooks but they couldn't save her .

Oh Vera your poor eye I hope its the last injection you need and that they have helped .

Mel hope the plumber can get your leak sorted for you ,have you rung up the roof chap and reminded him about the leaky roof.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 10 Feb 2023 17:57

Gwyn the only thing seeming to thrive was Ivy. Everything very bleak and bare I guess like my garden still showing the effects of the hard frosts we had.

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 10 Feb 2023 17:24

I hope your plumber gets your leak and problem fully sorted, Mel.
You might find your bungalow keeps warmer then.

Vera, I was cringeing reading your posting. That sounds awful. You are brave. I would hate to have to face something like that.
I do hope that part of your treatment is soon over and has proved to be beneficial. My father in law had some sort of similar injections and they helped a lot.

Ann, your walk sounds interesting. Although the trees still look fairly bare, there are leaf buds to be seen aren't there? We saw lovely long catkins today, when a friend and I went to walk in a country park in this area. We went primarily to see the wonderful snowdrops, which are in bloom there. The grounds once formed part of a country gentry's estate. The bulbs have been allowed to spread naturally and now form magnificent white carpets of flowers amongst the wildly growing bamboo.
Quite beautiful.
