SuffolkVera Report 12 Mar 2023 16:11

Sorry you didn't sleep well AnnG. I was restless too and I felt as though I had been dreaming all night though I can only remember one dream and that was a pretty stupid one.

It's much warmer today, 12 degrees at the moment. There's been a fair bit of sun on and off but it's cloudy at the moment. I'm really not getting anywhere near enough exercise at the moment so I persuaded OH to come for a walk with me this morning. We went down to the river and walked along for a while. I wanted to see if the swan pair that are usually on the bit of river closest to us were still there but there was no sign of them. I hope they haven't succumbed to avian flu. The river was up very high. It was very pleasant out though it was cold when we were walking into the wind. We were out about an hour. We only walked about 1.5 miles as we kept stopping to look at the river but at least I got some fresh air and a bit of movement in my legs.

Of course I now feel guilty because I didn't spend the time gardening and the garden really needs some work. We've normally cut various plants back by now but I am a bit wary while we keep getting cold spells and heavy frosts and I ought to get some seed sowing done. That'll be in indoor seed trays so won't be affected by frost.

We had our Sunday roast about 2 pm. Loin of pork today with lots of veg and a pud to follow. It was all very tasty but I feel very full. We'll probably just have a light snack at about 8 pm.

I hope you get on OK at the dentist's tomorrow Mel and I hope everyone sleeps well tonight.

Sun is still in and out here now and it is 12 degrees. then I see we are expecting another Arctic blast from Monday night possibly into April. Fed up with this weather now.

I have stripped and changed the bed and washed the bedding. and put away my Tesco shop. plus sending out a report of the meeting on Thursday.
also swept up all the moss dropped by the birds on the path to my front door.

Morning Anng and all,

Much brighter here too at the moment but how long will the sunshine last as it seems to be fading while I type.

Lots to get on with today, I have a small parcel to do up, wash my hair and get clothes ready for tomorrows visit to the dentist. I can post the parcel after the dentists.

Yes it was a good get together, a good chat over coffee and planned several more outings to look forward to. And then a nice lunch (fish and chips).
Mel looking at on line orders today you have more eggs than Tesco.

Vera good to get to a garden centre but disappointing not to find anything you liked.

I put I had the dentist on Tuesday and it should have Monday.

Had a call from Aunty Joy this afternoon and I blimmin well blocked her number by mistake. Now I have to find out how to get that taken off my landline. She now has my mobile number and I have hers so if she rings me I can ring her back as she dos'nt have the deal I have on my phone. We talked for 55 mins!!! Put the world to rights and had a giggle at the same time.

Well Vera you got more done today than I did. I did do the shop this morning and delivered some eggs to another neighbour. Em still has eggs but she is going to ask her mum and sister if they need any as I have 2 and a half dozen sitting here in the tray. May have to bake some cakes.

Hope you enjoyed your time out and about Anng.

Right need to get myself something to eat now.

It’s been quite sunny this afternoon though it is really bitter cold and the weather app says it will start raining again by about 6 o’clock.

I faffed about yesterday afternoon and eventually decided to make some soup. I left some out to reheat for lunch today and put 2 two person helpings in the freezer so at least I felt I’d done something useful and not wasted the whole afternoon. It went down well at lunchtime with some fresh ciabatta rolls.

As we didn’t get to the Dobbie’s Garden Centre yesterday OH suggested we went to our local one, Perrywoods, this afternoon. I couldn't believe how busy it was. We had to park in the overflow car park. I had £20 of vouchers to spend but couldn’t find anything I wanted. I did buy one small plant but that was to go with some raffle prizes for our Club meeting next week. We then went to town and went in Roy’s but I didn’t find anything there either.

I hope you enjoyed your lunch AnnG. I laughed at your neglected cup of coffee. It’s the sort of thing I do these days.

I think I said that the eye doctor yesterday said he would see me again in 3-4 months so I made a note on the calendar to ring them in 3 month’s time if I hadn’t heard anything. I needn’t have bothered to do that as today I have been sent my appointment for 12th June. How’s that for good service? We are very lucky with both our GP practice and the hospital.

We’re having salmon tonight so I’d better go and sort out something to have with it.

Good morning AnnG and all

Very cold night and a heavy frost this morning. It’s -2 at the moment . My beautiful daffodils look very sorry but they might pick up.

Wrap up warm and be careful of slippery roads when you go out AnnG. My only plan today is to stay warm.

sounds like the only thing to do is a doze in the warm Vera. so glad everything was good with your appointment it must be a relief to hear that. glad that you got there and home safely. Well done to your OH for driving you.
the sun is shining here but it is a very cold looking sun.

I first emptied the dishwasher which was full with all the stuff from the meeting yesterday. then I did a large colour wash then while it was washing I cleaned the filter and all round the outside of the tumble drier, it gets a bit dusty in the conservatory. The man is coming to service it on Tuesday so I thought it should look clean for him. then I walked to the post box and took a couple of books back to the charity lady. I did a few bits of admin on the PC including my shopping list, then had a bit of a tidy of my desk which seems to accumulate bits of paper with notes to myself on them.
Quite funny I must be going more dotty than I thought.
I made a coffee and sat in the lounge with it and a piece of the cake left over from yesterday. took my plate out to the kitchen and took some dried washing upstairs. After an hour pottering upstairs I went down for lunch and there was a full cup of coffee. Cold of course. I must have really wanted that. :-D

The weather was the same here at the time you were posting Mandy. It had rained for a lot of the night and was still raining when I got up but had turned to heavy sleet by the time we left for my hospital appointment which was at 9.45. By the time we were a couple of miles up the road it was snowing and as we were driving it was getting heavier and heavier. It's a good job we had left extra time as, with the snow and roadworks, it took us twice as long as usual and we got there just at my appointment time and I was called in immediately. It was still snowing heavily as we left but it stopped as we arrived home. Although it was laying a lot of it has melted already. It could be very icy tomorrow as we are forecast overnight temperatures of -7 or -8!!!

I got on well as the hospital. The various sight tests I have to do showed a slight improvement. That is unlikely to get better as I was born with poor sight in that eye. However the scans have shown a considerable improvement to the swelling behind the eye so it looks as though the injections have done their job. I don't have to have any more injections for the time being. The doctor will keep a watch on me and will see me again in 3-4 months. I'm feeling very relieved and pleased.

We were intending to go to Dobbies after my appointment as it is not far from the hospital but, as it was snowing heavily and we didn't know how long it would last, we decided to go straight home. My eyes are still quite blurry from all the different drops I had in them so I can't see properly at the moment anyway and I am probably better at home.

About 5 minutes after we got in the doorbell went and it was the next door neighbour. She had gone out and forgotten her key. I have a key for her house so she let herself in and then brought the key back to me. If we had gone to Dobbies she would have been stuck outside in the cold so it's a good job we did come straight home.

I'm not sure what I am going to do for the rest of the day. I'm not in the mood for h/w, can't do anything in the garden at the moment and my eyes are quite sore so I don't want to read or watch TV.

Whatever you are doing, stay warm and dry.

Ah really annoying Island but probably sensible to postpone.

Vera I am sure that, as you I think have short hair, if it was well cut it will soon just dry into the style. what a difference in price that was though

Meeting went well talked about anything and everything but most of it was garden related. On of the members had a birthday today so she brought us a cake. It did seem that we were all in the same boat as regards to losing plants to the frost. I had looked up a list of frost resistant plants so that was useful to read out.

Island Report 9 Mar 2023 13:47

I've postponed. Roads are clear but pavements and steps down from front door look treacherous. :-| :-( Sods law that it should snow yesterday and today.

SuffolkVera Report 9 Mar 2023 12:18

Good day everyone

No snow here now but it’s a horrible day. My weather app is saying it’s 3 degrees but feels like -1, with light rain and a gentle breeze. Translation: freezing cold, no downpour but constant steady rain and a biting wind from the East.

I went to the hairdresser for a cut and blow dry. I got soaked just walking from the car park to the salon, but after my hair was done I put an umbrella up and went to the veg stall in the market. By then my fingers were numb and I couldn’t press the tiny plastic button that closes the dratted brolly. The stall is a large walk-round help yourself place and I tried to walk round with shopping bags, handbag and an umbrella that wouldn’t close. In the end I decided I wasn’t prepared to pay their prices anyway e.g £2.20 for a small cauli so I went back to the car, put my still open umbrella in the back, put my hood up and walked to Waitrose nearby. I got everything I wanted including a decent sized cauli for £1.10, and drove home. What with the front of my hair getting soaked and the back flattened by my hood you can just imagine what my expensive hairdo looked like when I got home.

I hope your snow cleared and you can get to your doctor’s appointment safely Island and I hope your aches ease up very quickly Mel.

Enjoy your meeting this afternoon AnnG.
