We parked in the very large station car park which is free, provided for all to use by Sellafield to encourage their staff/employees to travel by public transport. They also provide buses. We caught the 1110(ish) train from Workington to Whitehaven. This train runs down the coast to Lancaster so the short trip we did was very pleasant looking at the sea and beaches in coves. The train was on time and it is a quite short journey. To start with it was a blowy but sunny day and walking by the marina and harbour was very pleasant, in one marina the water has turned bright orange. Apparently lots of tests have been done but they have not yet found the cause.

We had a very nice coffee in a cafe where we could look out over the marina befire walking up through the town to the discover rum museum.
Taken from their info.

You will hear tales of Blackbeard and piracy on the high seas, smugglers, and Nelsons Navy... See Elliot Ness's office in the gangster days of the Jazz Age... and discover the story of Whitehaven's maritime fortunes and the Jefferson's family's trading past.

Situated in the original cellars and bonded warehouses of 1785, The Rum Story has carefully recreated each set to capture the essence of the time and place, from the decadence of the punch houses to snoring sailors and pirates.... and , if you dare, walk to the end of the cellar - is it really haunted?

It actually was very interesting and really showed

Yesterday was wet, wet, wet. Today it’s dry and sunny but there is a cold wind and rain is forecast again later.

I didn’t do much yesterday other than some washing as my head was still bad. I don’t feel 100% but I do feel quite a lot better today. I washed a load of bedding and got it out early so the sun and wind should dry it before the rain starts. I’ve also managed half an hour in the garden and a bit of tidying up indoors.

Tomorrow we’re going to see our daughter. She only lives about 25 miles away but we haven’t seen her since Christmas. She’s been having an extension built and her downstairs area completely rehashed. It has taken months but, apart from a bit of decorating, is finished at last. She has sent me photos of various stages but it’s hard to visualise exactly how it all fits together so I’m looking forward to seeing it.

Lovely to have a cuddle with the new baby AnnG. I hope you are having a nice day at Whitehaven.

Did you get your bits on eBay Mel? You seem to be getting a few sales from it. Well done you.

I had gone to bed last night when there was such a clatter outside and it was an ambulance at our next door neighbour again. I’m not sure which one it was called out for as I could hardly stand at the window and gawp but I heard it drive away at about midnight. Then at 3.30 am I heard a car come up our Close. I did peek out then and it was the neighbour’s car. Wife doesn’t drive so I assume she’s the one gone to hospital this time and the car was husband coming back. Sometimes the ambulance seems to spend more time here than at the ambulance station but, credit where it’s due, they are both quite poorly yet seldom moan or complain. Not like some of my friends who act as though they have one foot in the grave every time they get a little sniffle.

Morning all,

Cloudy here this morning and pc says heavy rain soon and 7 degrees so thats to look forward to.

My uncle used to have a boat at Whitehaven and we went there once when I was young. He used to go fishing in it and catch those spider crabs. He liked to eat them but not for me, yuk. Hate anything shellfishy.

BIL went back to work last night so I should have a quiet day today. Need to get a couple more things on Ebay if I can. It took me all afternoon to get three things on yesterday.

Good morning all. Looks sunny so far but I am sure it is still cold. Probably going to Whitehaven today, not far away. It will be nice to see the sea anyway. And I think there is an interesting museum there too.

Good evening. As planned we went to see Maya this afternoon. She is so tiny, feels so light in your arms but she is gorgeous of course. She is still only two weeks and has not yet reached her due date. I had a lovely cuddle although she was asleep all the time. She did open her eyes a. Outlet of times. Lovely to see her anyway. Weather not too bad, a bit chilly but sun and cloud.

Nasty old morning here its raining and dull good job we don't have to go anywhere.

Poor you Vera I hope you feel better after your co-codamol. Must have cheered you up to see your swans are back.

I have a lovely Thrush hunting all around my garden and she flys off with a beak full of worms so she has hatched her eggs already.

Its clouded over here now after a lovely sunny morning but theres still that very cold wind. Pc is saying its 14 degrees and light rain.

Happy Easter to everyone.

It’s a bit breezy but it was a beautiful sunny morning. It’s clouding over a bit now. We’d better make the most of it as rain is forecast for the whole of tomorrow.

I didn’t sleep much again last night and woke with a bad head this morning and dodgy vision. In an attempt to shake it off I donned my dark glasses and we walked down to the river. I was getting worried about the swans that usually nest in a particular spot there. THEY’RE BACK :-D. One was asleep on a nest and the other was swimming nearby.

Our lamb roast is nearly ready but there’ll be no wine for me today. I might have to resort to a couple of co-codamol instead.

Enjoy the rest of this Easter Day.

Morning All,

Another bright and sunny morning and pc says partly sunny and 7 degrees.

No visitors today so I can get on with the garden if its not too cold out there. BIL emptied the trailer for me in the wrong place and then put loads of old wood in it. I want to cut down the hydrangas and fill it up with those. Honestly he has no idea bless him. He tries so hard but instead of asking me he just does things. He cut all the lawns again yesterday which was good as it cut all the grass cutting up again so there not great lump of it on the grass.

The sun is still out but there is light cloud as well and there is a nip in the air too. Allonby is north of here on the coast. About a ten minute drive. Up the coast it is Maryport, then Allonby, then Siloth. Maryport is a quite busy little harbour with fishing boats and an Aquarium, a very old small town. Allonby is mostly houses and agriculture, a smaller place than Maryport but with a good path along the low cliffs, much used by walkers, cyclist, skaters etc, just one small hut on the cliff for coffee etc and lots of seats for sitting and picnicking. When the tide goes out it is a lovely flat sandy beach. I like Siloth, again not a town just a few shops and cafes but a bit more manicured than Allonby and a bit more there. We will probably go there next week when dry but it it a bit further. Plenty of free parking if you know at all three places.

Tomorrow we have the Easter egg hunt for the girls. And barbecued hot dogs for lunch.

It was very sunny this morning but much cooler than yesterday. This afternoon seems a bit warmer but the sun has disappeared.

I seem to have been busy all day and I feel quite tired now yet I don’t feel I’ve done very much. It’s all been little jobs. I repotted a couple of house plants, made several little pots of apple sauce for the freezer, prepared tonight’s dinner etc, etc.

Your bil is good to visit you so much Mel. All that sorting of sheds and garages would be too much for you to do on your own.

I don’t know Allenby AnnG. Is it on the coast? I hope you enjoyed it there.

I’m now going to smile sweetly at OH in the hope that he’ll make me a cup of tea. He’s been reading all day, apart from half an hour when he went for a short walk, so I feel it’s my turn for a little break now.

BIL has come early this morning and he's cut the grass again within the wall and fitted a new part to the old mower and now he is going to start on clearing out the garage workshop.

I have made a quiche for lunch which I am just about to make a salad for to go with it.

Have a nice trip out and I hope its not too busy there.

Good morning all doesn’t feel that warm but the sun is shining. Hoping to drive up to Allenby this morning in the hope that all the holiday makers will drive South.

Lovely to be expecting a little girl into the family. As Mel says pink clothes shopping.
