I'm pleased you enjoyed your day out Anng and it sounds a very interesting place.

Mandy's walking greenhouse should have read walk In Greenhouse.

AnninGlos Report 17 May 2023 15:04

Good afternoon I was too tired to come on here yesterday and too rushed to get the bus to town (chiropodist) this morning
So, reading back Mandy I am intrigued as to what a walking greenhouse is. Sounds fascinating, hope it doesn’t run away.

Frank, so good to see you and to see that you and Ros are well, it makes us think all sorts f things when we don’t hear from you. Please do just call in sometimes.

William, It took us almost two hours by coach to get there but we did stop for ten minutes to let off half our coach load who were actually more interested in walking or visiting the cathedral in Lichfield itself. The Memorial arboretum is fantastic. Most of the memorials can be approached by or seen from proper paths/roads. But there is also a Land train which I am pretty sure had access for wheelchairs. There is a large accessible restaurant and also good accessible disable loo.
We really enjoyed it but that is probably not the correct word, we were humbled and over awed by the whole place. It is really big, just walking to all the memorials you could not see it all in a day, but by taking the land train you can see them all and there is a good commentary. You can then walk to where you want to have a proper close up look after you get back to the centre. There are over 400 memorials and right in the centre is the National memorial with thousands of names on it. In the centre of that there is a genius idea the ‘wall’ is split with about a 6 inch gap and wording running down the end of half the wall which reads. “At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day or the Eleventh month, if the sun is out it will cast a beam through this gap”. And we were shown a photo of this happening.
Tony was in the fleet Air Arm and the very last memorial we visited was the Fleet air Arm one which gave me pause for thought of course as not only is it dedicated to all in the Air Arm who died in the war but to all those who ever served in the Air Arm who have died. And H.M.S. Eagle was mentioned with thanks who served on here between (I think) 1954 to 1972 He was on her in 1963/4 After she had undergone a full refit.
There are memorials to Civilians as well and I can remember Medical personnel and Fire Service, also the Post Office. Also The women’s Land army.
While we were there, there was a large reunion for those who served in National Service. This is a special day called Remembering National Service on its 60th anniversary. There were hundreds there many of them wearing uniform and also many wearing medals. Princess Anne was there (we didn’t see her and there was a fair amount of current ‘gold braid’. There is also a very emotive national Servicemen’s memorial where it speaks of so many million young men being taken forceably from their families to be taught to fight in a war.
You can tell the day made a big impression on me.
Vera I hope that you have a lovely time with your family and that your back behaved itself

William Report 17 May 2023 09:09

What a coincidence Frank popping just the same as me! I was only wondering how is just yesterday too. We are friends on Facebook but doesn't see active on there now either.
My back appointment with the osteopath went well and she gave me a good going over and gave me some general health tips too. Not only that but she bought two of my books of poems, last years and the previous years and better still, insisted on paying me double. Will I do another this year? I'll wait and see, I now have 232 poems to choose from and incidentally, one of my recent ones is called 'Hi, I'm Robin', after the Robin who frequents our bird table. I wish I could post them on here and share them with you all but it's not possible.
Well, I have another poem on the go so I'll get off and illustrate that too. If anyone wishes me to email them a poem or so, please let me know
Enjoy your day.

Have a lovely time away with the family Vera you'll have lots of catching up to do. I won't worry now I know you are going and please pop in if you can find a moment even if its just a Hi.

I'm waving to Frank ~~~~~~~~~~~. Great to hear from you, you've been missed. Please pop in now and then if you can. It's good to hear from William too.

How lovely to see the baby robin Mel. We have plenty of adult birds in the garden at the moment but I haven't seen any babies.

I hope you enjoyed your trip to the National Memorial Arboretum AnnG. It's somewhere I would like to go as I know it is a civil memorial site as well as a military one. There was a coach trip from here last year but it would have been a minimum of 3 hours in each direction, even assuming there were no hold ups of any kind, so we decided to give it a miss.

I hope your connectors fit when you get them Mandy. You'll have to give Max a good scolding; he's a naughty boy to be chewing bits of your greenhouse.

I still haven't managed to get down to the river to see what's going on with our pair of swans, but OH took a walk down there yesterday. They were nowhere to be seen round their nesting site but a little way along the river he spied a pair with 7 fairly large cygnets. I think that was probably "our" pair.

Mel, it's nice of you to miss me when I don't post for a day or two. We have been busy and I've not been 100% but I don't want to keep boring you with my health ups and downs. Things could be a lot worse. We are going to be away for a few days, staying with OH's sister and meeting up with others of his family. As we are all fairly scattered we used to have an annual get-together but advancing age for some of us, illness and the pandemic means we haven't managed it for 5 or 6 years now. Sadly we lost one bil last year so he will be missed. On the other hand we are looking forward to meeting our youngest great niece for the first time. She's coming up 4 already! I'll have my iPad with me so will post if I get a chance but don't worry if you don't hear from me for a few days.

Frank its so good to hear from you please poop in whenever you can as we are getting a bit thin on the ground now. Sending many XXXXXXXX's to you Frank and give my love to Ros and keep as well as can be expected. We've all really missed you and often say we wish Frank would come back.

How nice to have both our boys write on the thread in one day.

Well the suns been out all day and I hav'nt done a thing in the garden but I have done some washing of velvet and fabric I want for another project. I am going to dress some Tudor dolls house dolls.

Mandy naughty Max chewing the connecters. Hope they are the right angle and size when they come.

Nice to see William popping in too .

Hope Anng has a nice day and the weather is kind for a walk round the clouds are now building here and some arequirs black .

We've been putting the walking greenhouse up this morning ,got to the roof bit and one of the connectors had got a bit chewed by Max last year by the looks of it ,I didn't help take it down as that was when my wrists were broken so I've looked on Amazon and ordered a couple of new ones just hope they are the right angle and they fit .

BLAST FROM THE PAST> How are you all???

We are still plodding on, I"m 84 now and Ros 77. Both in reasonable health, apart from me having SENIAL DEMENTURE (can't spell) I am under the hospital for that.

Doing nothing with my life, apart from reading lots of books, and generally pottering around the house/garden.

Ros is the main stay of the family now, doing all the gardening, washing and cooking. I don't know what I will do, if she wasn't here.

Still hear from Harvey and Conrad. Haven't heard from Simon since before CHRISTMAS. I'll send him s B;DAY CARD for the 19th JULY. and invite him out for a PINT.

Will try to pop in now and again, take care of yourselves.

Love Frank

O I had'nt seen you pop in Gwyn. Have you seen the swans lately?

Yes my swallows are going in and out of the filter shed but they hav'nt started building on to their nest yet. It usually takes them a while to settle in. There are three nest in there and they used two of them last year.

Shopping all put away.

I hope Vera is ok as we did'nt hear from her yesterday but I can't remember if she said they were going somewhere or not. My head is like a sive lately!!

Missed a call from the pond man as I left the phone in the bathroom and was at the door with the shopping when it rang. It was the [ond man (Nick) I wanted to speak to about the air pump for the big pond.

Good morning all,

How lovely to have a baby robin... The adults know where to build near a tasty food source ;-)
Have you got swallows nesting too this year?

Ann will be well on her way by now and I hope they all have a fine day.
I went with my daughters last summer and although we spent ages there, there were still parts that we didn't investigate fully. We listened to a talk about prisoners of war in the Far East, which was very thought provoking.
The grounds are vast, so there will be plenty of walking, although I recall there was a sort of land-train transporting people who couldn't cope with the distant parts.
I hadn't realised that it wasn't solely military memorials. There were beautiful memorials for others too. I particulaly remember a colourful butterfly in memory of stillborn babies.
I'm sure Ann's group will find it interesting.

So nice to see Will drop in and give us feedback on Carmel. Its always nice to hear from you will when you get the time, sending love to you both and hope your appointment goes well for your poor back.

Its 9 degrees here and pc says mostly sunny and the sun is shining at the moment and the sky is blue so I think I will change the bed today. Shoppings coming too and its Carl one of the nice drivers.

Just popping in to say 'Hello' to you all and let you know that we are still in the land of the living. Well, just anyway. I notice AnninGlos was going to the National Memorial Arboretum and am wondering how she got on, at least the weather seemed good. We don't live too far from Lichfield, about 45 mins drive. It's one place I want to go but due to being Carmel's carer now the opportunity doesn't seem to arise. As an ex RAF veteran, I would love to pay a visit sometime and look at all the gardens and memorials. Carmel is a wheelchair now when we do go out and though we have the car trips out depend on the following. 1. If Carmel has a good day - 2. If the weather is suitable. and 3. Going not to far ie, up to an hours drive. Anyway folks, I'm still writing my poetry, just finishing my 235th, all since lockdown, and posting them on my Facebook page which has around 80 - 90 followers now. My agenda today is to see my osteopath at 3.30 and sort my backaches out. Enjoy your day.

good morning all hope everyone slept well last night. I slept quite well despite knowing I needed to be up early as being picked up at 0850. Anyway I am up early so that is ok. On a trip today with U3a to the National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield, so won't be on here all day. Have a good day everyone. sunny here but only 4 degrees.

Oh that is lovely Mel. Hope it stays safe.

Back from the audiology so aids now have new tubes. Good job I went actually as apparently both moulds are starting to have little cracks in them so they will order new ones for me. probably about three weeks. I had a student today and he was over seen by an experienced audiologist so he was very precise playing it by the book. I was in and out quite quickly and then walked up to town and posted letters and bought a few bits I wanted. Must have walked 2 miles as th hospital is a fair walk at the moment as the short cut we could take to town is closed for renovations.
