Morning all,
Sunny and bright here ,it was so muggy in the night I had quite a restless nights sleep .
The doctor rang yesterday my kidney function test is showing a little kidney disease so I will need yearly tests to keep an eye on it ,I also need another blood pressure tablet so that will be three I'll be taking ,she also wants me to stop one of the tablets I take for arthritis as they can affect your kidneys .
Vera thats a good weight for a new baby ,any name yet .
Oh Anng thats a nuisance needing an adapter for the new slow cooker ,is it a two pin plug on it ,I suppose it's so they can be shipped abroad .

good morning all. Quite grey here and very windy and at 7am itis 15 degrees so not cold.
Mel when putting on fitted sheets, if you have a problem have you tried doing the corners diagonally? Now memory being what it is somebody on here may well have told us this but I will repeat it in case you don't know. Try putting the top left hand corner on first, then the bottom right hand one. that seems to hold the sheet in position when you pull the other corners on. It works for me most of the time anyway.
Vera, that was quite a big baby for a first child. But not unusual I think nowadays. two of my great grandchildren were around 9 pounds. Sad that your daughter can't get to be with her daughter for a while though, that is the trouble with those of us living so far from families I suppose.
I do have an ankle support and wore it all day yesterday and it does help a lot.
I have Tesco delivery this morning and then I need to go into town. I had the new slow cooker delivered yesterday and the plug on it is a continental one so I need to try and buy an adaptor. I am hoping the little shop in our indoor market will be open as he probably sells them. It is a Morphy richards one, exactly the same as I had before. No idea whether they all have them now but it would be a hassle to return. Just a bit aggravating really.

I was restless last night as it was so hot and sticky and I don't think it will be much better tonight. It has been a "heavy" day, as hot as yesterday but without yesterday's sun, just overcast with the odd gleam coming through. I've been busy as well so I'm feeling whacked now.
We went into town again to pick up my meds and then bought a couple of nice "baby" cards, one for the new Mum & Dad and one for my daughter as the babe is her first grandchild. How can my daughter be a grandmother? It's only yesterday she was a little girl :-) Then we popped into Iceland. I rarely shop there but thought I would get a dessert or gateau to take to the garden party on Sunday. I got two smallish cheesecakes but then carried on looking round and ended up buying 3 packs of frozen fruit and 3 packs of sea bass fillets as well. We're going to try one lot tonight.
When we got back we had a coffee and then I decided to give the downstairs cloaks and OH's en-suite a thorough clean - not before time! We had a sandwich in the garden and I walked down to post my cards before spending half an hour cutting back and dead heading. Next it was making a shopping list to cover roughly 3 weeks and getting an order in with Tesco for delivery Monday.
In between I kept stopping to answer texts about the new baby and look at the photos I have been sent. She was 8 lbs 12 ozs so a really good weight for a first baby though not an easy birth for the new Mum. Because of distance and a 2-week holiday just coming up my daughter won't be able to see her for at least 3 weeks but the new parents have said they will face time her so she can see the baby close up and moving about.
I know what you mean about the bed-changing Mel. I am 5'8" and I struggle with it though I find it easier to do on my own than with OH's help, lol.
You did well to get the grass cut and must feel you've achieved something AnnG. Would one of those ankle supports they sell at various chemists help you when you are having to do jobs like that? It sounds as though you were busy in the garden yesterday as well Mandy.
I'd better go now and see how I have to cook these sea bass fillets and then I am on pot watering duty next door as neighbours have gone away for a few days. They have a lot of pots!

I have just finished changing the bed. Its such an ordeal for me being as I am only 5'2" nd its a king sized bed. I do it in stages now I have to do it on my own. Oh always helped me and it did'nt take long.
Washed the bedding and its blowing on the line so it should dry ok today.
Going to have a fiddle with my crafts now as I think I have earned it and I hav'nt touche dmy Tudor lady for well over a week..

Well ankle is still sore but just cut the lawn. worried that if I left it (and it was quite long) it would rain so, had to be done. I haven't done the edges yet. I really need to get a new edging tool, the one I have is about 50+ years old and really heavy and needs sharpening.

Good morning all, 17 degrees, dry but cloudy here. Nothing planned for today. Need to be here for when Amazon deliver my new slow cooker. Ankle still painful as is thumb. I mean to try Turmeric pills as I have a friend who takes them and has been pain free in her painful ankle since taking them. But I want to check first if that is OK with my pills that I take

Congratulations Vera, how lovely. Made up for the frustrations over your meds. :-)
I have just seen that a light aircraft made an emergency landing three hours ago on a central reservation of a dual carriageway very close to here. Worrying when the planes are overhead most of the day. Luckily the pilot was fine and no cars were involved.

Oh Vera thats lovely news congratulations .
We've just come in from the garden it was lovely sitting out ,so nice after the heat of the day . We started out this morning just going to cut the front grass but I started to trim back a shrub and then decided to take a shrub next to the one I had trimmed back right out so we filled about five tubs and then took them all to the tip so we had a busy morning . Anng I hope your ankle soon feels better would it help to put a bit of strapping on to give it a little support .
Mel you've been busy with the ponds ,how many fish have you got they must be getting very big now.

O Vera thats lovely congratulations.
Done no craft today but I have done both pond filters and just had the scimmer on for a while to clear the top of the big pond. My pond has the scimmer and filter all in one.
I also did some weeding on the stones by the big pond and at the bottom of the step[s down from the patio and had a sweep up. Then I got tired and thirsty so came in and had a cuppa.

Hope your ankle is less painful after a bit of a rest AnnG. You’ve probably overdone the walking lately. You are right about not being able to do as much as we used to. I keep planning lots of jobs for the day and then get exhausted just doing half of them.
I’ve had a frustrating day today. We went into town early for me to pick up my meds and the pharmacy assistant said they hadn’t had my repeat prescription back from the surgery yet. This afternoon I rang the surgery and they said I got my last one 14th July (that was correct) and they sent the next one to the pharmacy on 26th July. So I had to ring the pharmacy again and they found they hadn’t even downloaded it from their computer. So I’ve got to go into town tomorrow again to pick the meds up. I made it clear I wasn’t best pleased and that I would expect next month’s to be ready on time. When people on the thread were complaining about not getting their meds I used to brag that our pharmacy was great but not any more. They have gone right downhill.
I did a bit of shopping in Waitrose and then met friends for coffee as we do most Thursdays. There can be any number there from 3 to a dozen. Today 6 of us turned up.
I want to do a dessert for Sunday as well and I had got a sponge flan so I tried out a dessert that I used to make when my kids were small. I made it OK and thought we’d have this over 2 days and I would make a bigger one on Saturday to take with me, but now I’ve got cold feet about it. I suddenly realised it used raw eggs. When I last made it over 40 years ago that was acceptable but it’s not so much now so I don’t want to risk it. I’ll probably take a shop bought gateau.
I bought some nice thick cut ham in Waitrose and we’ll have it with salad so no cooking tonight.
Lovely weather today - almost too hot but I’m not complaining after all the rain we’ve had. Should be good tomorrow as well. Hope you’re all enjoying the sun too.

23 degrees here and sunny. I had intended mowing the lawn today as it is dry, got as far as walking down the garden and realised my ankle was too painful to walk on. It was a bit painful last weekend but usually it goes after a couple of days. I think I have walked on it too much the past couple of days so I have stopped and am trying to rest it now. so feeling my age now and realising I can't dash around as much as I used to a few years back.

I forgot to look it up but glad you found the name of it. Pour some boiling water over where it grew to kill off and bits of root that may have been left in.
Brother in law turned up about half an hour ago and is now mowing up what he mowed yesterday but did.nt pick up as it was so long.

Well, when I left home for the bus it was quite dull and chilly but the fog had lifted. I wore my light wet weather jacket. We met up by the museum after three of us had had coffee in my favourite Italian cafe there, two of the other three had coffees in the museum. the canal boat trip was exactly an hour and was very interesting as it actually goes down the part of the canal that we (Tony and I or me on my own with daughter etc) have never walked. It was interesting to see the many canal side flats and houses that have been built. The boat is not that big, It was one of the little boats at Dunkirk then it became a ferry boat in Devon at several different places before coming to Gloucester in the 90s. It was very full, it being school holidays and there were a lot of children of varying ages who were all very good, quite quiet, listening to the commentary and not running around. Except for one little girls, about 6 or maybe 7 who was up and down the stairs either end with, I think it was grandma in tow. talk about hyperactive. But it did occur to me that My Great granddaughter would have been exactly the same if she was allowed. (Which if with us (daughter or me) she would not be.)
Yes Island some mist would be atmospheric but unfortunately here it is either all (thick) or nothing.
Vera good that the quiches worked for you. Problem solved.
Mel good to get the pond done and the grass cut in the same day, so that is out of the way.
Mandy didn't get wet today but had to tie my wet weather coat round my waist as the sun came out when we were on the boat and it is still out and it is 22 degrees here.
