Wish I could have a glass of Rose' but can't being on these pills and a patch.

BIL turned up this morning unexpectidly and spoke about the pond pump and wanted to know all about the set up I had got so he can try and sort it out. The pump they sold me dos'nt turn the water around enough. I shall have to ring Homeleigh tomorrow as they told me it would run the Nexus 220 filter I have but this pump only does 10000 gallons an hour and the pond takes 15000 gallons. I also need to get a bomb for the filter as it needs bacteria in it as its not cleaning the water and two new UV bulbs for the green water.

Oh poor Banty. She had a good life while she was with you Mel.

I had a busy day yesterday but don't seem to have done much today. Once I got going yesterday I hoovered through downstairs and steam cleaned the kitchen and utility floors. I then spent a while in the garden cutting back some overgrown stuff and dead-heading. I also caught up with some emails and did a lot of odd jobs. I felt quite pleased with myself.

Today I've done next to nothing. This morning it was dry but not very sunny and there was a bit of a wind with a nip in it. We did go for a walk by the river. It was more of a gentle stroll than a fast walk but I was shattered when we got back, even though we had only walked about 2.5 miles. We did see our old friends the swans that always nest at the point where we join the river path. They were swimming around with 5 nearly fully grown cygnets. They weren't much smaller than their parents but still in their dull brownish plumage. OH said he thought there were originally 7 cygnets so it looks as though 2 have been lost. There were plenty of kayaks out on the river and plenty of people out for a walk but it was still very peaceful.

You might remember my iron blew up on me and I had to buy a new one. The instruction book says that every so often I should fill the water tank to the maximum level and then pull out the self-clean button. Well, OH and I both tried time and time again to pull this button out without any success so yesterday I emailed the company customer support, asking how to pull the knob out and how I would know the water tank was full to the max mark when you can't actually see through the plastic side to check the water level.

To give them their due I did get a very quick response. They apologised that I couldn't see the water level and told me how many ml of water I should put in the tank. I was then told that the instructions were wrong. I shouldn't pull out the self-clean button. I should push it in!! This iron has been on the market for a good while so I am sure I am not the first person to pose these queries. Wouldn't you think they would have addressed the problems by now? They don't even have to reprint the instruction book. All they need do is put an error slip in it about the self-clean button and state that 360 ml water will fill the tank to the max level. I had checked that this info was nowhere in the specifications either in the instructions or online. I despair of some of these businesses, I really do.

I took some chicken out of the freezer this morning so I had better decide what I am going to do with it and I have a nice glass of rose to drink while I'm deciding. Cheers, hic ;-)

Morning Mel and all

Safe journey AnnG.

It’s sunny at the moment but we’re promised showers and thundery rain this afternoon. It’s a more comfortable temperature now. It was too hot for me earlier in the week.

Your bil is very good to come and help you so much Mel

I don’t have any plans for today. OH asked if I wanted to go out somewhere but the roads will be very busy today, so I think we might just have a walk along the river. Enjoy your day whatever you’re doing.

Morning all,

Safe journey Anng and hope its not too busy on the roads for your trip.

Its 12 degrees here and pc says heavy rain so usual Bank Holiday weather then. I remember when I was young going to horse shows on a bank holiday and having lovely days watching my friends compete in the trials. My pony used to go in with a friend riding him as I would'nt go in the ring.

BIL was here all day yesterday and now he may come on Monday to do a bit in the garage.

Have a lovely weekend all whatever you are doing.

Evening all,

Today has been a much cooler day after the last few days of muggy heat and we've had a busy week ,we've really cut the white rose back this year and took seven full tubs to the tip .
We had a load of wood delivered yesterday ,the two older grandchildren barrowed it round and Colin and I stacked it in the afternoon.
Today we've had an easier day, I did strip the bed and remade that this morning and then had a good hoover through .

Hope you enjoy your day with the boys Anng ,when do you travel if its tomorrow safe journey and hope the traffic isn't to bad .
I have never thought to ask how long the flu jabs lfe was i just presumed it would cover you for the winter but if its that short and everyone knows that then everyone will hang on to make sure it covers you for the winter months which will be a bit chaotic for the doctors .

Morning you two early birds.

Nice and bright here this morning so I am hoping its going to stay. Feels a bit chilly and pc says afternoon rain and it 12 degrees and gpoing up to 16 so it won't be that hot today.

I wonder if BIL will turn up today?

Nothing else planned so will see how the day takes me.

AnninGlos Report 25 Aug 2023 07:40

Good morning all, although it is bright here, it is only8 degrees so a lot cooler than you Vera. I had quite a good night, Slept from 11 until 12.15 got up for the loo then laid awake for a while, then slept until 6am.

Today we have Granddaughter in law (daughter's almost ex daughter in law) and the two boys coming to see us for lunch. They can do it in a day but I hope the traffic is not too bad with it being bank holiday. It was the only way daughter could work out how we could get to see the boys now they have split up.

Good morning

It’s 14 degrees and quite bright today. There’s no rain expected and it should be a bit cooler than the last couple of days which will be a relief.

It was another lousy night and I was up early again. OH is just stirring.

It sounds as though you had a thorough MOT at your surgery AnnG. That’s interesting about the flu jab. I might enquire about that as we are having ours at the end of September.

I haven’t got any plans for the day. I’ve got plenty to do but I need to find a bit of energy from somewhere or I won’t get much done at all.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 Aug 2023 16:18

Daughter and SiL arrived lunch time, they took me down to the surgery for my annual check up. Wow, I had a nurse that I had not had before, she was on time and very thorough. I actually felt it was worth going. She checked BP and took blood for the test, I had prepared a sheet of BP readings over 6 days which she was very pleased with as she said it saved them time. She asked a lot of questions that I have not been asked for a few years and she said I was doing very well for my age. She also weighed me. Just have to wait for the test results now.

One thing she did tell me was. The flu jab for this year has only got a 10 week life, which is very short. So our surgery have opted to do the jab towards the end of October. She said not to go to a pharmacy for the jab because they won't tell you it only has a 10 week life. The aim is to cover the worst months so from October to January. I think it is possible that the covid jab will be at a different time.

I'm not sure when you actually go AnnG but wish you a safe journey whenever it is. You shouldn't feel guilty about daughter and sil in law collecting you but I totally understand why you do as I am the same.

You have been busy with your pond Mel. There's a lot of work involved with maintaining a pond. When we had one OH spent at least one full day every week on it, plus plenty of odd half hours.

What have I been up to today? Not a lot is the answer. I did a few odd jobs around the house and then showered and washed my hair. Then we went out for our usual Thursday coffee meet. 9 of us turned up today. I bought a bit of fresh veg and some milk while we were out, then it was back for lunch. I've prepared tonight's dinner; a sort of bolognese mixture with extra veg in it, shredded carrot, chopped leeks, a tin of tomatoes, tomato puree, mixed herbs, a beef stock cub and a good slurp of OH's red wine. We'll have it with noodles.

We had quite a bit of rain overnight and first thing but it stopped by mid-morning. The computer is telling me that it's 25 degrees and it is hot and muggy but there's no sun, just grey skies.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Aug 2023 15:43

i have been mucking around with the pond all morning and into the afternoon.

I think I may be going to lose Banty as she is not very steady on her little feet. I suppose she won't last forever but she has to be at least 15 years old now.

What have you lot been up to?

Morning Anng and all,

17 degrees here now and bright and sunny like you Anng. If your daughter did'nt want to come for you at this time of year she would'nt so do NOT feel guilty but enjoy your time with them.

Had a bit of a bad night, got up around 4am for the loo and could'nt go back to sleep and then got hot Looked at the clock at 5.15am nd tried again after a while I dropped off and woke at 9.40am.

Hope you all had a better night than i did.

Good morning all. 14 degrees this morning so cooler than yesterday but dry and bright so far. Just received email from daughter to say 'leaving now' that was at 0735.. Hoping to beat some of the holiday traffic. I do feel guilty knowing they choose to do this journey this time of year to get me up there.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 23 Aug 2023 12:38

Afternoon all,

Been really busy this morning and had to do the pond filter and get the scimmer working. Then I had to fill the pond up from the well as I could'nt get the scimmer to work till there was more water in the pond. I also had to go into Shebbear to post a parcel. Now why could'nt she have paid yesterday so I would only have had to go up there once.

Its nice and sunny and quite hot 21 degrees at the moment and temp dropping tomorrow as per pc.

Went to the shop after the post van and still my scripts were not there so now I have to go to the docs to collect them as I have run out of painkillers.

Must go before the one I took this morning runs out!!

Thanks Vera, the longer I am up and away from the dream the better I am getting. I will be fine, it was just a bit of a jolt. But really I don't have time to be miserable today, too much to do. :-)
