Morning all,

Nice bright sunny morning here but it felt a bit nippy when I went out to the bin .

Just been busy doing the usual jobs Mel elsewhere nothing exciting happening here .
Not sure if we're shopping today or tomorrow I didn't have a good night's sleep last night so I don't feel very with it at the moment, I'm sure I'll feel better later .

Good morning all. Lovely blue sky and sun here but a strong breeze. Daughter and SiL swimming and gym this morning. They swim at a hotel leisure centre near Keswick. I will go with them, probably walk to the lake and then go in the hotel for a coffee.

Morning all,

A sunny morning here and pc says mostly sunny and 14 degrees. I need to do some dusting in the bedroom today and a good hoover through. I hate HW but it must be done and I have a pile of ironing to do as well.

Hope you all slept well and I wonder what Mandy has been up to?

Good afternoon all. Just spent an entertaining afternoon as SiL’s two girls were here plus baby Maya. She is still tiny for her age but not scrawny. She looks very healthy and didn’t cry once and they were here over two hours. Oh I forgot Amber the Cockerpoo was also here. Anyway Maya is gorgeous and I enjoyed a cuddle, well she is past cuddling now but she sat on my lap and tried to get my fingers in her mouth.Couldn’t have a long cuddle as there were four of us to ‘have a go’.

Other than that we went into town for a coffee this morning. The sun is shining and where sheltered it is warm but there is a cold wind.

One thing about the British weather is that you can't get bored with it. It's never the same for two hours at a time. This morning when I got up it was dull and very chilly, so when I went out I put a jacket on. While I was out the sun started blazing down and the breeze dropped and I was sweltering. Now sun has disappeared, the sky is just one big grey cloud and it looks as though it might rain.

OH had some business in town this morning so I went with him and popped into Boots and Waitrose for a few bits and pieces. We took some more stuff into the charity shop as well. I had to laugh last Thursday at our weekly coffee get-together as one of our friends was wearing a brooch I had given to one of the charity shops. I know that she wears brooches so I should have given it to her but I just didn't think. She didn't mind as it only cost her £1 which she thought was a bargain.

I've prepared tonight's dinner and finished the garden job I was doing yesterday. Some of the flowering plants are starting to go over now. All summer I've been dead-heading and getting more flowers growing but now I'm dead-heading and the plants aren't forming new flowers. On the plus side my clumps of purple asters are starting to open their flowers.

I think I am now going to sort out some of this paperwork on my desk and get some filing done, emails answered etc. It's not before time. There's even a birth cert. of a relative who is so distant I haven't even put her as a tiny twig on my family tree. I think it must have been amongst stuff of my brother's that was given to me to sort out a year or so after he died. I need to go through some very old emails between brother and me to try and find out why he thought it important enough to pay for the birth cert. I think I'll have my work cut out there.

Morning all,

Its cloudy but dry and 14 degrees and I think its going to be like that all day.

Better get on.....

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Aug 2023 20:16

I think it must have just been a build up of grey sand fromj when oh did cementing and there was some bits of soap powder that had'nt melted as I only seem to wash on a cold wash and my powder laways gets damp. The gritty bits come from the tarmac drive and I washed oh's shower shoes he wore outside and some must have come from them. It worked ok when I finished the last wash so I am hoping I have cleaned it all out enough.

I am doing myself a small roast beef dinner with yorkshires and roast tatoes carrots and broccoli tonight. First one I have had since Christmas Eve with Em and family.

SuffolkVera Report 28 Aug 2023 18:27

That’s odd Mel. Where on earth has the grit come from? Could you have been working in a gritty area of your garden or round your pond and got a lot on your clothes?

I hope the weather has been good for you AnnG and you’ve been able to get out in the fresh air. It’s been a nice day here. It has been mostly sunny and warm with a bit of a breeze. It did come over very black a couple of times but the clouds blew over and it stayed dry.

I feel shattered as I’ve been busy all day. I stripped and remade both beds and washed all the bedding plus all our clothes for the last 7 days. Most of it could go on a quick wash but it took 4 loads. I also cooked our main meal at lunchtime and did a few odd jobs. This afternoon I spent quite a while working in the garden. I really spent longer than I should have done so my back and legs are feeling it now but the weather was nice and I wanted to get on. OH has had an easy day mostly reading. He’ll get us something to eat in a while as getting our snack has become his job.

Where is the grit coming from Mel?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Aug 2023 13:09

Got trouble with the washing machine again. Thought I had sorted it as I managed to get the drain plug out and clered that as it had hair and fluff in it. Put another load of washing in and it did the same thing an alarm went off and it stopped so I switched it off and had to drain it again and you should have seen the grit that came out. I have washed all the powder draw and got most of the grit out so I am now going to try and get this wash finished and fingers crossed that not more grit comes through and bungs it up again.

Here goes.....................................watch this space.............................

Good morning all bright with some sun here and 15 degrees, looks like a bit of a breeze blowing though. Hopefully going for a walk on the beach at Allonby for fresh air later. Not worth going further, quite a lot of people even right up here.

My thoughts were with you tioday Anng but you had a nice outing with coffee and a good view over the harbour. I aam sure T was with you in spirit, they are never far away.

Em came round for eggs and we had a nice chat which broke the day up. Still can't get used to going down to Banty first before the big girls and then not taking her corn out at night and shutting the shed up. The mice that visited her will be missing their supper of her corn too.

It rained around 10 am, but stopped by 11.15 so we drove to Maryport and had a walk around the harbour to the lighthouse and back to sit by the harbour outside a little cafe with coffees. The sun came out and it was quite warm as we were sheltered. Being bank holiday Sunday there were a lot of caravans in the little camp site and loads of people walking around. It was a nice breath of fresh air and a lovely smell of the sea as the tide came in.
Back then to find something for lunch and for Lyn to put the slow cooker on for tonight. After lunch they are off to watch Workington’s rugby match. SiL is chairman of the rugby league club.
I shall spend the afternoon reading.
It would have been our 63rd wedding anniversary today so feeling a bit sad now I am here on my own.

Good morning all

It's fairly warm and sunny spells at the moment but apparently we are going to have strong, gusty winds and showers this afternoon. I can't wait :-(

I had a smile at your sil with his push-me-pull-you iron AnnG. That's what I call our little local toy train. It's like the sort of thing you see with a train set. There's no ticket office and you walk straight on to the single platform. The train is just a couple of carriages and an engine. It shunts up and down a single track from the station in town to one where we can pick up a London train, passing through 3 other little stations on the way. When it gets to its destination the engine is shunted round to the other end of the train and it starts back up its single track again. I understand the station here was quite a busy hub and you could get to several major towns from it but then in the 1960s it got the dreaded Dr Beeching chop.

I've washed towels this morning and they are in the tumble dryer now. There's a small piece of beef brisket pot roasting in a low oven and the veg is prepared so I think I might have a coffee and try to do a few minutes in the garden before the weather changes this afternoon.

Morning Ang and all,

Its grey here today too and I think it rained inthe night.

Nothing planned for today, I have a little ironing I could do and try and find something I fancy for dinner. Feed the big girls and do some minitures.

I have one of those dozy flies in here this morning so need to get rid of that as it keeps settling on me.

Good morning all. Grey here, looks like it rained overnight too. Also not very warm. Only me up at the moment showered and hair washed and had breakfast they are not early risers.
