It was a good day, went out at 0930 and got home at 1630. It was more of a short carol service than concert with one carol sung in the middle by a young choir. It is called carols on the hour in the cathedral and it was packed. very pleasant but the acoustics are not good for hearing aids. Had a nice light lunch bubble and squeak with smoked salmon, a poached egg and Hollandaise sauce.

The museum talk was very interesting starting with actual museum objects (Roman) and a view of the roman wall under ground. then up and down a lot of stairs to where everything is stored with explanations, from paintings to chunks of concrete, old pillars, dinosaur fossils all sizes and some very important apparently. I am tired now, and brain hurts but it was good, very stimulating, made you think.

It’s been heavy rain and wind all morning. The rain has turned to drizzle now but the wind is still gusting hard. I had time today to do a little bit in the garden but it’s far too wet. Isn’t that always the way :-|?

I decided instead to make a large red cabbage casserole, enough for 12 helpings. I use a recipe from Delia Smith that I’ve been using for years and then divide it up into 6 2-portion bags and freeze it. I had forgotten how long it takes to shred all the cabbage and chop loads of onion and apple. Standing at the work surface doing it all has made my back really painful again, so I am sitting up on my bed with a wheat bag at my back.

Yesterday I made a long list of things I wanted to get done and ticked them off as I did them and I managed to get through them all bar one. I got all the rest of the Yorkshire presents wrapped and parcelled up in a large box and got that to the post and then ploughed my way through the rest of the list.

I hope you are enjoying your trip AnnG and that you got to your Christmas fair Gwyn. Have a good day everyone

A lovely day here, - bright blue sky and very mild, when I went out on a local delivery walk.

Ann, your Christmas cottages are lovely. What a great collection you have. It must have been fun adding to them over the years. I love the scenes you have set out this year.

Mel
I love all the different variety of leaves used in your Advent ring. It looks lovely, especially in the country church setting.

A day to catch up today having been in school all day yesterday. Term finishes a week today.

Monday I am working with a different group of Year 6 children from a different school. They visit the parish church in town and work in groups at various activities.
I am with a group making stars, which they will hang on a twig tree in the church over Christmas. It's a full-on day with several group changes and a light lunch provided, before their teachers walk them back to school mid-afternoon.
Busy, but enjoyable.

Morning its 8 degrees here too Anng and the pc is saying a record high! It very dull out there and looks miserable and wet.

Slept like a log last night. I have to go up the post van this morning and then do some ironing and present wrapping. Am hoping BIL comes tomorrow and not today as it throws me out when he comes on different days. I get myself planned for the day and when he comes they all go out the window so to speak.

Yes I got my hair cut and yes I got wet, it was not very pleasant walking there and back but soon warmed up when I got indoors. Managed to wrap up Inara’s presents. That took an hour and a half. To do, just got Senua’s to do now.

She cut half an inch off Mandy, it grows quickly.

That sounded like a lovely day Vera. Is it NT or private. Pleased it all worked out for you

Oh you popped in there Vera ,I forgot they had the Christmas trees in the church ,they do that every year ,glad you enjoyed the day.

Evening all,

Been dry today and we got some shopping done early ,this afternoon we wrapped some Christmas presents.
Today is Katie's birthday ,we had dropped her presents and card in yesterday so she would have them to open this morning .

Oh glad the cards arrived I posted them on Tuesday so not to bad with the delivery time.

Vera hope you enjoyed Holkham i remember last year you said it was lovely ,not sure you'd find much to do in Swaffham for a stop over though.

Hope you managed to get to the hairdresser's in the dry Anng ,she won't have so much to trim off if it's only there weeks since you went .

Mel thats a devil the keyboard isn't playing up now but at least you know you have the new one should it pack up altogether.

Tomorrow were hoping to get the outside tree in the holder and get the lights on ,hoping it's going to be a bit milder and dry so we can get it done , we usually put some lights round the door canopy but I don't think Colin should be climbing ladders now so we'll give those a miss this year, I have lights along the side of the garden in the white rose Bush too.

SuffolkVera Report 7 Dec 2023 18:07

Thank you for your card Mandy which arrived today.

I hope you got your hair cut AnnG and didn’t get soaked.

It’s been wet, gloomy and miserable today. Currently the iPad is telling me there is heavy rain, it’s windy and, although it’s 5 degrees, it only feels like 1 degree. Just the sort of weather to fit with a visit to the dentist. I was in the chair for over an hour. The treatment wasn’t too painful but my jaw really ached from keeping my mouth open for so long. It’s fine now. OH came with me so we could go shopping afterwards and I know he dozed off in the waiting room. I just hope he wasn’t snoring.

Our dentist is in a different town so I had a couple of different shops to visit and managed to almost finish the Christmas shopping so I was pleased about that. I’m hoping to wrap and post some of it tomorrow.

Going backwards we had a good day yesterday. It was very cold but there were beautiful blue skies and sunshine all day. We had a couple of hours in Swaffham and wandered off to take a look at the church. The architecture and woodwork was lovely but an added bonus was that they were having their Christmas Tree Festival so we had all the decorated trees to admire as well. Some people had an early dinner but we didn’t want that much so I had a scone and OH a sausage roll.

We got to Holkham at 1.45 but our time to see the decorations was 3.15 so we visited the very nice, and very pricey, gift shop where I got dil some gloves. Then we both had a snack in the cafe and after that we went to another room for a complimentary mince pie and glass of Prosecco. Now it was time to go in

Words don’t really do justice to all the decorated rooms. Last time we went we could only look over the gallery into the chapel. This year they had a complete visual light display with a religious Christmas theme and you could sit quietly and watch it right through. It probably took about 15 minutes. OH’s camera had the gremlins in it yesterday but he took a lot of pictures on his phone. If he gets around to downloading them I will send a few round but they don’t really do justice to the display. We had a good run back and got home about 8 pm

Did you get your hair done Anng?

I have been fiddling with my polyclay plating up turkeys and veg and mushrooms.

Jut missed the library so followed it up to Shebbear and got my new books there. The last lot I had were not the usual things I like but today there were lots. We only have it twice more and they are stopping the mobile in February so any books taken then have to go back to Torrington.
