HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all. Let us hope it is a peaceful and healthier one too. :-)

I've also recorded that programme too Gwyn. It should be interesting.

Well we have a list of things to start sorting now since the SKY problems. (they are coming on Thursday). We now daren't unlock the conservatory door to outside in case we can't lock it again, which means a longer trek from the back door to the garage freezer. The cordless Dyson went on strike on Saturday and the last few days the boiler keeps running cold at times and showing error messages and it doesn't need topping up, so our showers have been a bit of an adventure! Then to top it all, after we popped to the shop this morning, I noticd the the bottom of the back passenger door of OH's car was partly caved in. It must have happened when he was parked at a footie match on Saturday as there was no-one parked anywhere near his car today. Something else inconvenient to sort as he needs his car to get to his meetings. Looks like I will be his taxi or he takes my car, meaning I can't go out. I just hope they will be able to get the parts to repair it with there being shortages. At least it is driveable though, so it could have been worse. As our friend Frank would say......MORE EXPENSE!

I weighed me this morning and have put 4 pounds on in the past 3 weeks, so now I've almost eaten the goodies, it's back to the diet tomorrow. I haven't eaten one mince pie, no Christmas pud or any cake this year either and OH ate 90% of the sausage rolls.....must be too many biscuits and chocolates. :-( :-(

I had to ring Asda yesterday. We have those little Actimel drinks in packs of 8 or 12 and Actimel have started printing pictures of the fruit on the foil tops and it's really hard to read the dates that are on there, but there is a date printed on the box too, but we usually throw that away. I was checking the dates on mine which were up yesterday and looked at OH's and his were up on the 20th, the day they delivered them!! They only allow you to claim refunds for 3 days after delivery so I couldn't do that, but was annoyed at them expiring on the date of delivery. Anyway, they have refunded without a quibble which is good. They are good on refunds online too and don't ask for the goods back or any proof and sometimes you can salvage what's not damaged.

This morning the floods in the fields by the river near here were the worst we've seen them and have reached into the short back gardens of some of the houses, so they must be worried, as it's pouring with rain now and more promised overnight.

Our neighbour has told us the farmer who leased the field at the back of us to keep cattle on has sadly passed away aged 77. He'd recently had his lease renewed for the next 3 years which meant the field was safe from builders till then. Now who knows what will happen with the field.

I suppose there's been some skiving done, but employers are taking silly chances making people with covid come into work. Masks only reduce, not remove the risk. The latest variant is more infectious still, so it could spread very quickly between their other staff as well as the vulnerable residents.

Bin day tomorrow so I'd better make a dash with some rubbish and then start my list of phone calls to make tomorrow to start getting things fixed.

P.S Good luck with the dentist Mel. :-)

Yes it makes you think Gwyn. My uncle (mums brother) was on the train when the great train robbery took place. He was in the sorting car at the end of the train and they were set free on the track when it was taking place.

Em's just been round for eggs as Sam wanted yorkshire puds with his dinner tonight. They were having casserole. I had just a dozen so that was ok and I shut the girls in when she arrived and there was an egg in the nest box so I have one if its needed for anything I may want.

Good afternoon everyone.

My best wishes to you all for a Happy New Year with some good times ahead, which will cheer you.

Quite often on New Year's Day morning, I get up early to go down to the coast to watch the sun rise on the new year. I didn't feel up to it this year having been fighting off a cold, cough and ear infection. I hope the weather brightens and the winds drop, so that I can take a walk near the sea soon though.

Is anyone else going to watch the ITV dramatisation about Mr Bates and the Post Office Scandal?...It's on tonight. I'm going to record it, so I can flip through the adverts, when I watch it later.
Thinking back, that all happened about the time that our local shop lost it's Post Office due to 'false accounting' I believe it was termed.
We all liked the young postmistress, who ran the shop with her husband, when she wasn't on P.O.duties. They were kind, helpful and hardworking and I now wonder if they too were part of this terrible injustice.

Your certainly right there Ann.

Pc is saying 9 degrees and light rain so there goes another dry day. There is not a lot of wind today though so thats good.

Just washed my hair and was wondering if I shoud cut a lump off but I hav'nt. Its getting so long now that the long handled comb I use dos'nt always get to the end and I get in a tangle.

Well I better get on as I hav'nt fed the wild birds yet and they have run out of fat balls and need some seed on the bird table and fat sticks.

Good morning all a nice dry bright start to the New Year. I am hoping it will last but the forecast says otherwise.

Got to bed at 1am, we didn’t do anything special, watched a film watched a Queen concert then the New year program. Then stood on the doorstep and watched fireworks over the town.

I always find New Years Eve a bit hard and I am sure you do too Mel, a strange time going forward into another year without them.

At 1.16pm we had a hail shower and it made a terrible racket on the plastic roof outside the back door. we've had sun and rainbows and rain and very high wind all day. Poor chicjkens won't come out of their house and the water is running along the side of the chickens run. I have shut them in tonight for hte first time this winter. I had one of the old ones dead this morning so now I only have 4 three black ones and the one ginger one.

I am wishing you all a very Happy Healthy and peaceful New Year for 2024 and may it bring some very good times for us all. <3 <3 <3

Went out to Cockermouth to the Lakes Home store and bought a toaster. Special price £29.90 Russell Hobbs. It has for once been a dry bright day, blue sky in the morning and a glimmer of sun.

Enjoy the evening whatever you are doing and a happy new year to everyone. Hope 2024 is kind to us all and that all your health stays good. <3

Evening all,

Just sat down as I been busy getting veg done ready for the family coming tomorrow, I'm doing a Beef Cobbler one of their favourites so I've cooked the beef so I only have the Cobbler to do tomorrow, we will be one short for lunch as Chelsea is off to her friends tonight and tomorrow but she might be back in time for tea .

It's been a odd sort of day dull most of the time but we have had the odd bit of sun .

I have had a few nights lately where I've had a job to drop off to sleep but last night I must say was the best night's sleep for a while .

I don't think we are staying up to see the new year in so
I wish you all on the thread A Very Happy Peaceful New Year <3 <3

Goodness, I hope you’re not all turning into insomniacs like me. I’m sorry that you both had a bad night yesterday, Mel and AnnG. I was the same. I turned the light off around midnight and went straight to sleep but was woken at 1 am by the wind gusting round the house and making the security lights come on and off. Then the rain came down. I’ve never heard anything so loud. I think there was some giant out there hurling great buckets of water at the windows. I read for a while and then tried to sleep but couldn’t so I got up at 6 am and prepared all the veg for our dinner, made a plum and apple crumble and did some tidying. OH got up about 7.45 having slept like a log through everything. I did go back to bed soon after 8 am and slept for about 2 hours but I don’t think I’ll be staying up to see the New Year in.

Yes, Mel, where has 2023 gone? Time flies faster and faster as we get older. Looking back over the past year, it hasn’t been a good one for us. We’ve lost a number of friends and one rellie, our own health has caused a few problems at times and we’ve had sad news about the health of two people dear to us. Then there have been all the annoying things like not having a car for a month. But, and it’s a big BUT, we are still here, still able to laugh and enjoy the good times and best of all 2023 has given us a happy, healthy, wonderful great granddaughter. What could be better than that?

I wish you all a happy, healthy and peaceful NewYear. May 2024 be the year that all your hopes and dreams come true. <3

Afternoon all,

Cold and wet here today but not so windy ,a day for staying in I think ,we have a nice fire going so we're lovely and warm .

Anng if the poor girl feels like I did with the covid there's no way she could go in to work ,I think its dreadful expecting her to go in and in a care home too where it would spread like billio.
That's half the trouble people going about with covid and mixing with people ,covid will never go at this rate, I do hope she feels better soon .

We have had the last of the beef joint in a sandwich for our lunch and have decided we will have beans on toast tonight ,we've had so much rich food lately so I'm quite looking forward to them .

I have just thought back. I have spent eight of the Christmases since 2014 up here in the Lake District in three different areas and I don’t remember ever in that time such a wetter days as we have had. We have had it cold and snowy but not this constant wet and windy weather. And forecast looks as though it is getting worse next week.

Step granddaughter has tested negative today but she still has a terrible sore throat so her Mum is going over to take her to a walk in clinic. She doesn’t have a car.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 30 Dec 2023 11:05

That does sound dreadful AnnG and there was certainly no need for the manager to be nasty, but government advice is to go to work as usual. There’s no requirement to test or anything. I think there’s a lot of people who have Covid mixing with others. I believe our wonderful government found lockdowns didn’t work so they are now going for herd immunity. But in some cases you simply can’t work, either because you are too ill or because you are working with vulnerable people. Something like Covid would spread like wildfire in a care home and that manager needs her brains tested.

AnnG, you’ve reminded me that I bought some stollen before Christmas and had forgotten all about it. Goodness knows where I put it but I need to go on a hunt for it or it’ll still be there next Christmas.

It’s quite chilly today and yet again it’s wet and windy. It’s a day for staying in so I might do some h/w - necessary but boring :-(. I think I’ll make a start on the bathrooms.

Have a good day whatever you’re doing.
