Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 Apr 2024 07:32

Good morning all,

Dull and dreary and its been raining. It started yesterday late afternoon and I think its still that light rain in the air as I can't hear it this mroning . pc says degrees and light rain. I suppose we have this for the next week at least.

Slept well just up once and straight off again afterwards.

Hoping Mandy is a bit better today after stopping the tablets.

By the way it dos'nt recognise my password for the internet this morning.

I love bread and jam...

Had a gameof cards on the pc and nearly fell asleep. Vera just put all your veg and cchicken inthe tin and squeeze the lemon over the chicken and bung the rind in too and bake it it'll be lovely.

Think I may have chicken sweet and sour tonight. as I don't feel like cooking after all the things I have been through today. All I have done is hoover the kitchen and diner and fed the chickens and wild birds and fish.

I think I saw a Sparrowhawk fly across the garden today and all the little birds went quiet.

Gwyn I hope your swans have more success this year after two broods failing last year. We love to hear about your swans and Vera's too. When I did Bideford market years ago on the way into Bideford there were a pair f swans on the river and I watched them for years . They were always some where long a certain stretch but not seen them now since being with oh even when I used to go to Bideford shopping.

Wrote it and did'nt post it!!

Well done Mel, at last you're in :-D I've got to get on to BT as well and I keep putting it off. I got everything set up on my new iPad except emails and every time I try to set it up I get the message that my password doesn't match my email address. I can get emails on the PC, my phone and my old iPad so I haven't worried about it too much but I do want to get it set up.

It has actually stayed dry today. Hooray! I don't know why I'm cheering as it's still not very warm and it's quite overcast, though the sun put his hat on for 10 minutes earlier.

Mandy, I was going to say the same as Gwyn about vitamin C. It is important to help the body absorb iron. I hope you are starting to feel a little bit better now.

I'm glad you enjoyed your walk Gwyn. It's a shame your swans don't seem to be nesting this year. I enjoy reading about them as I can compare them with ours. I haven't been down to the river for a while but OH walked down there a couple of weeks ago and he said one swan was sitting on a nest and the other was swimming up and down nearby so hopefully they will be breeding again this year. I assume it's the same pair as I know swans mate for life. A couple of our friends had swans as a decoration on their diamond wedding cake but I don't think many of the guests realised the significance.

As I think I've said before we have a large hall, kitchen/diner, utility, downstairs cloakroom and a conservatory which are all tiled in the same very light coloured tiles. We usually do them with a steam cleaner but I get fed up because they all stay nice and clean looking except for the kitchen bit of the kitchen/diner and that always looks grubby to me. I think the floor gets splashed from the sink and the stove and then any muck gets trodden around. So, this morning I decided I would have a real go at just the kitchen area. So out came buckets and bowls, squeegee mop, scrubbing brush, detergent etc and I really attacked it. It's a fairly large area in itself and I didn't want to put my back out completely by scrubbing the whole floor on my hands and knees but I gave it a good going over with the squeegee and detergent and used the scrubbing brush on the more stubborn marks. It looks good at the moment but I am sure that by tomorrow it will look grubby again. And my back is telling me that it knows I've been bending and twisting but, as they say, there's no gain without pain.

I'm going to go and start preparing our dinner now. Some while ago I followed a recipe for a lemon chicken tray bake. It was really delicious but so complicated and took ages to prepare so I'm going to attempt to do my own simpler version of it. It'll either taste good or end up in the bin and we'll be having bread and jam.

I hope Mandy will soon feel better and gradually be able to increase the foods that can be tolerated.
Don't forget to include plenty of Vitamin C in your diet, as your body needs that vitamin to be able to absorb and use the iron in your food.

Mel
I hope you can get your 'net' problem sorted. In must be so annoying for you.
Thank you for the photos of your new girls. One of the photos did look a bit like 'them and us' and keeping the 2 groups apart, but the arrival of eggs seems to show they are settling in. They are good-looking hens.

I'm not long back from a country walk with a friend. No rain and now that the bitter wind has dropped, it seemed much milder. It was quite pleasant walking. We heard the cuckoo..my first one this year.
No sign of the swans building in their usual place this year. If you remember, they failed to hatch any eggs from 2 clutches last year. Maybe they are too old. I don't know how these things work.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 26 Apr 2024 11:46

Mandy just search for iron rich foods. As Anng said red meat and eggs are a good source of iron andthe green veg but you say you eat plenty of greens.

Still can't get on the net will have to ring BT again and spend all the rest of the morning on the phone.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 26 Apr 2024 11:29

I am not sure that the things on the list you give Mandy, except for veg are high in iron. Red meat is good, but if you can make yourself eat some of the things on the Red Cross list it would be beneficial.

Mel, that is annoying about your internet. Do you know why you have lost it?

Morning all,
It was really frosty here this morning when I got out for the loo in the night I looked at the car and thought we had had snow ,black clouds out there now so I expect a shower is on its way .

Thank you for that list of foods Anng I'll have to try and eat a few more things off the list that I don't normally eat although we always have lots of green veg and other veg ,salads and fruit .

Mel liver is one thing I can't stand ,we do eat a lot of chicken ( sorry Mels girls ) we have mince ,sausages ,gammon and I have tuna so we have what I thought was a good mix of food .
Hope you can get your emails sorted today .

Still no internet it just a well I Have the thread starred or I just could'nt get on here so if you need to message me for anything doit through GR.

I had a strange sleep last night. Got up for the loo while it was still dark and then could'nt drop off again but must have slept in fits and starts.

AnninGlos Report 26 Apr 2024 08:12

Good morning all only 4 degrees but bright and sunny, seems we can have it cold and bright or warm and wet. I am ever hopeful that soon it will be warm and sunny.

It is photography this afternoon but nothing planned for this morning so probably a few admin jobs. It was a really difficult subject for this month for me and I have had to search the archives for examples ("fun").

Mandy, to 'self help' once your body adjusts again to you eating proper food you can help your iron intake by eating iron rich food. Do you like liver? Dark green vegetables? Interesting that the Red Cross have a list on their web site, for people donating blood, for iron rich food,

Another cold, wet day (sigh). Another week and we’ll be into May. I hope it gets a bit warmer then.

You must feel that your painting will never get done AnnG what with the weather and Jake not always turning up when you expect him. I hope his little one makes a good recovery. You wondered why Annx’s nibbler was chewing off the leaves and leaving them. I read that they are trying to get the water inside the stems to drink. I’m not sure how true that is as I would have thought there was plenty of rain water around for them at the moment.

Thanks for the pictures Mel.. They look nice clean birds but they made me smile. With their long necks and heads in the air I thought they looked like rather snooty ladies who will rule the roost :-D

I am glad that the doctor left some notes Mandy but it’s dreadful nobody rang you to tell you. At least you now know that you can leave the iron tabs off. Fingers crossed that will clear the problem and they can find a different way of getting the iron into you. You must be feeling completely drained. It’s good the sample was clear.

Belated happy birthday to the thread. I don’t think I started posting until early 2019 as I seem to remember that I had only been on the thread for 3 or 4 months when we went to Vienna and OH was taken ill. I remember everyone being so supportive and being glad I’d joined the thread.

We went for our usual Thursday coffee meet this morning. There were 10 of us today so nearly a full house. I’m not sure what I’ve done this afternoon except faff about but the time seems to have flown and now I’m going to have a look at the crossword and then perhaps read in bed or watch something on iPlayer. Sleep well everyone.

MillymollyAmanda Report 25 Apr 2024 18:10

Oh Mel thats a nuisance I hope you can get it sorted .

Well no call from the doctor so I rang just now and there were notes left on my record from the doctor to say I have to stop the iron tablets and see if the diarrhea stops
I also asked if my sample result was back and that was clear with no more action needed so that was good ,so they know its not a bug so it must be the tablets.
So bland food for me until it stops ,I had two rounds of toast and a banana for my meal tonight,I don't like this diet but I have list five pounds .

I have been on to BT and changed my password and I still can't get in. I have tried a lot of times and think I may have doneit too much. I am still locked out.The chap I spoke to said to try in half an hour but its now been at least an hour so I suppose I shall have to ring them again. It takes so long I have lost my day now.

I am really pi**ed off now.

Let's keep fingers crossed Monday is a dry day Anng then Jake can get the painting done ,it's a worry when littles are ill .

Ann could you put/tye something over the hosta to cover it for a few days what ever it is might leave it alone if it can't get to it ,i see you have two pots so you might have to cover the other one too .
Yes I did enjoy my marmite on toast but it wasn't long before I was back on the loo , so i had some dioralyte and a couple of imodium these blooming tablets have really upset my system.
No rain here so far but it keeps going over very black.
