I truly give up...lmao you know perfectly well what I was saying, she refused on moral grounds as a committed Anglican. Now that didn't mean that she didn't love my gay friends as individuals because she did ,as I said before.

I'll end it here :-)) I am still proud of the old girl because she acted on her beliefs instead of just moaning like many do.

But Joy, why can't the Iraqi lesbian girl be allowed to work here and pay her taxes and not be a 'burden' ?

Yes of course she could keep quiet about her sexuality back home...and never have the chance to have a loving relationship, and always fear the knock at the door, never mention she found someone attractive because she might be reported....in other words living a lie and living in fear.

It's impossible to vote for ANY party and agree 100% with all their policies.

You just have to choose the one that fits your ethos the best..

I shall be voting Conservative...not because I agree with EVERYTHING in their manifesto but because I believe they're our best hope of turning .things around this parliament...AND getting rid of this government.

I'm sure they are those that would no more vote Tory than fly to the moon...pretty much my stance on the Labour party.

But each to their own x

And superc, you know even better what I was saying.

"she refused on moral grounds as a committed Anglican"

But she paid taxes for the totally immoral invasion and occupation of Iraq? (And what of those who do? withhold their taxes for that, that is. They get off with a credit to their tax account?)

At least gay men and lesbians don't generally go around bombing and maiming children ...

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 24 Apr 2010 21:27

I may well be getting the wrong end of the stick here...and if i have i'll apologise...

but local council tax isn't used to fund wars is it? Illegal or otherwise? Isn't that income tax? xx

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 24 Apr 2010 21:29

"why cant she go home and just tell nobody she is a lesbian"

I dunno. I wonder what life would be like if people got put to death for being heterosexual. Think many heterosexuals would just tell nobody they're heterosexual? Hmm, maybe nobody would notice. I mean, all heterosexuals should find it quite easy to live their lives celibate ...

"Michael said he doesnt have to be married to his partner of 11 years
he said its just a waste of paper"

Yeah, that's one of the options I suggested. I'm all right, Jack, and * the rest of you. (Fine old English naval saying, we'll recall.)

"and his vote is his to use as he pleases"

And the earth revolves around the sun. I know I haven't denied either one. Anybody else want to?

supercrutch Report 24 Apr 2010 21:30

Actually she didn't because she was retired and her combined pensions were under the tax threshold...lmao

Where the hell do you get a tax credit from? I must google it because that's a new one on me!!

Well if Janey is on her soap-box ...I'm guess I must be on MY soapbox too...I don't see that as a problem , i see it as having some opinions of my own and not being afraid to state them...

so whether it be my soap-box, Janey's or anyone else's...it is better than being someone who doesn't have an opinion of their own, isn't it . :)),

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 24 Apr 2010 21:31

Ah, RR, opinions are only good things when "we" like them. ;)

It's okay to have an opinion, you see.

It's not okay for anybody else to have an opinion about your opinion!

Or if they must do, they should shut up about it. ;)

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 24 Apr 2010 21:33

Muffy -- if someone can withhold local taxes for one reason, why should someone else not be able to withhold national taxes for another reason?

Surely the principle is the same.

If someone is so very "moral" that they don't want their local taxes being used to provide a telephone helpline for people who suffer discrimination ... or violence ... because of their sexual orientation, then I expect them to be really exercised about their national taxes being used to kill and maim children.

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 24 Apr 2010 21:34

theres a difference to having an opinon and making people feel belittlled coz there is different to your,

so who will you be voting for int he genral election janey?????????

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 24 Apr 2010 21:36

But national taxes aren't broken down into categories like local tax is...

The principal may be the same...but the ability to be able to deduct the amount isn't.

I personally don't have a problem with it.

I know of SO many people who don't pay their local taxes and get no more than a smack on the wrist.

Somebody reducing their local tax by a small amount but paying the remainder is fine by me...especially if they feel there is a principal at stake x

janey unlike canada this is a small island
struggling to feed the people we aleady have here
why should we have more
your county's immigration policy's is much stricter than ours

so why dont you kick off on your own countries government

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 24 Apr 2010 21:38

*THUD*

oooops Janey you have twisted my words:

My late sister was vehemently against any part of her council tax being appropriated for 'lesbian and gay rights'.

NOT

If someone is so very "moral" that they don't want their local taxes being used to provide a telephone helpline for people who suffer discrimination ... or violence ... because of their sexual orientation, etc.,

*tut, tut* made the wrong assumption there to try and score a point, Good try but sadly no cigar!! :-)))

SheilaSomerset

SheilaSomerset Report 24 Apr 2010 21:41

If we're struggling to feed people already here, why do we waste about a third of our food? Our supermarkets groan with food, flown in from all over the world, so that we can eat strawberries in December - if we want to.

I receive my wages minus the tax and national insurance contribution I pay (another tax).

It would be impossible for me and the millions of others paid this way NOT to pay the full amount.
