would you just use the "back and forth" part in isolation or only as part of that expression?

I use 'back and forth', I have no idea what that makes me, raised in London, lived all over UK and abroad.

Just the first descriptive I would use.

'sheeeeshhh' is an expression I've never used - certainly not 'local' to southern England - as you say, SRS sounds a mite transatlantic!!! PMSL

Thinking about it (and it's bloomin' late) I use it when something is unresolved: back and forth to the doctors, back and forth to the hospital. Meaning I am still expected to attend again as there are ongoing whatevers.

Does that make sense? Probably not, I am off to bed,
(only forth).

I think of back and forth as in unloading the car for instance, back and forth with bags of shopping, yes, it sounds a**e about face but there you are, if you say I use the expression a lot, then I take your word for it. Just never thought about it really, I am 63 so if this is something used by an older person then I suppose I qualify!
I use the blue a***d fly expression too but not with back and forth, necessarily, more likely to say rushing around like a blue a.fly.

lol I think Liz's expression rushing around is more usual than back and forth.

I don't think I use back and forth at all but Sue's back and forth to the hospital (could be dentist/opticians etc) sounds more natural than all the other examples.

I know you'd normally say pop back with any replies lol you wouldn't normally use forth.

Although I know people that would talk about going forth and multiplying but they don't usually mention the back bit lol ;) Hopefully no one has taken offence by that.

I use Back and Forth....although most colonial Aussie's would say... Back n' Forth ( in a verbal conversation )...:>))

Never use To and Fro....but will say There n' Back.
"Its 300 miles, there n' back to Albury, or i went Back n' Forth to Albury a few times".
