Statutory registration didn't start till 1855 in Scotland but there are ways and means to get information even before then. If you're looking for a good Scottish site try www.scotfamtree.org.uk I'm on there every day and we also have lots of Oz members! It's free to join and get advice but if you pay a sub of £10 for the year you'll get look-ups worth a lot more than that, so it more than pays for itself. All the subscription money is used to pay for sites and books/discs that enable us to help others. We also visit libraries and record offices as often as we can.
