Hello Marjery,

We've had a very dry spring in the uk so grass hasn't grown very much but having said that we had lots of rain last week but too late for decent grass for hay, farmer cut his medows at the beginning of June and hopes it will grow again to get a second cut in August.

Cost of feed has gone up too
Not heard of Hendra virus, some horses on my yard have had a virus, (a cough, lethargic) vets said it the dry weather and high pollen

pleased your donkeys are ok,
now that we can put pics on our profile I'll find one of my girl and put it on

Following on from my comment about Hendra virus. It is spread by fruit bats in Queensland and New South Wales. They hang upside down in trees or from lamp posts and feed in orchards then spread out everywhere. The are protected but are present in plague numbers having no predators. We haven't got them in the South West of W.A.. Several people have died and a lot of horses have developed it. The virus can affect people or horses.

Hi All,

Hope you and your ponies/donkeys are well.

have just started feeding hay to my 2 as the grass has given up growing, I am on holiday next week and then when i get back i will start bringing them in overnight.
The lady who usually rides Tuppy for me has had a fall and fractured her coxyx (sp) so wont be riding for a while which is a shame as we are now into the last few weeks of light evenings.
I've not heard of the Hendra virus either the ones we get here that worry me the most are strangles and the Equine flu.
