eh Maggie?

I don't really understand about ' pigeon holed'. I have seen you about many a time on GR but haven't seen your 'earlier thread so cannot comment on it':-).

There was no offence meant in my post, but I am sorry if you feel there was. Just one of my ponderings :-)

Talking of Billy no mates........I am afraid that title has already been taken by moi Lol.....

Susan who has paranoid-itis with numbersX

Don't think I'm 'known' to anyone on here judging from responses to my earlier thread, but I've been here a bloody long time - so not sure what I should say?!!
Should I respond as a 'newbie' or an 'old hand' who is, apparently 'Billy no-mates'?
Or just carry on as usual replying to the odd thread, take nothing personal, say very little that is controversial and kill many threads?

Why does everything have to be pigeonholed?

MrDaff Report 14 Feb 2010 00:20

If that is so, Susan, what is the answer? That we all stop *speaking* with each other, and only reply to threads by people we don't know, so that we are on a level playing field, everyone knows no-one?

I think it boils down to the type of person you are, and not so much whether you are a newby or not.

Each one of us was a newbie once, but we went out there and met people, we answered threads and posts, and we made friends... that is what people do. Many of us took it a step further and met *in the real world* as well....

Now, there will be some Newbies reading this, I am sure, who will be up for a challenge... might be nervous etc, but will go for it, as many of us did once.... others will not... either because they are shyer, or because they have no wish to meet cyber folk for real, or whatever... but they do not wish to, and that is ok.

In the *real* world, people go into pubs, clubs, dance groups, evening classes, gyms.... wherever... for the first time, as Newbies, and they might be put off, anxious, nervous by the fact that everyone else appears to know each other... but that is life.

They have two choices to change the status quo.... get on, introduce, meet and find new friends, or go away, and miss that opportunity to become a part of that group.

Maybe we have a responsibility to be friendly, and acknowledge and welcome Newbies onto threads, to our meets.... but the Newbie still has to take that step towards becoming a friend, as well. We can't do that for them. They have to do it themselves.

I think my brain is all befuddled now... it is well past my bedtime, lol

Nite all

Love

Daff xxxx

Susan when I first started reading the gen board I thought they very clicky it was just before Jan and Ricks wedding, but I just joined i didnt get an invite to the wedding it was about 3 days away......I have met loads of people and sometime people take their friends along who are not connected to GR at all, Jo you used to post very rarely was agood friend of Catherines from manchester and she used to bring her MIL, Jo and Maz were great company I met them a couple of times, hardly spoke to Jo on here, as I said in my other posts about sandra and Jimmy, and of course the lovely May and her OH whom we spent most of the evening with, so even if your best of pals on here it doesnt mean they all stick together at meets.

I didn't 'know' any of the people at either of the first two meets, Susan... only to speak to on here not off the board....so it was an 'ordeal' lol to psyche myself up to meet 'strangers' en masse....especially as a lot had been here years before I joined

Uggers Report 14 Feb 2010 00:05

Susan, I think the problem is that the meets tend to be known ones these days - there used to be more in different places organised by different people whereas now they seem to be mostly the same few bigger ones organised by the same people - not a criticism of them obviously - but I suppose they seem like continuations of the previous ones. If someone less well known organised a meet in a different place, it might seem more open and attract new people?

Easily, something about Sue being the only reason you're going to the P'boro meet....and now Crunchy can go instead of me....

I mean, what's a woman supposed to think in the face of such adversity?

Susan10146857 Report 14 Feb 2010 00:01

It has just occured to me that most of the people who have answered this thread are 'known' to me which brings me back to the original thought. Are others who would like to reply put off by our apparent 'friendships'?

Is it because we 'know each other that we go to meets only with those we know/are friendly with?

Do the friendly threads on GR about meets put newbies off wanting to participate on the meets threads or actually going to them?

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 14 Feb 2010 00:01

Confused me for a minute lol.

I am getting the feeling that you don't want to meet me again Hayley ....

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 14 Feb 2010 00:00

Lol Maggie.... no problem... I just wondered if I was going more senile than I thought, cos I couldn't remember meeting you.... No, I haven't been to any of those, more towards this side.... and my health blip stopped me going anywhere for a while, lol.... but I am getting back on track again, and will start playing the field a bit more ;¬)) lol

*chucks life belt to whassername*

CrunchNutter.... Hayley only has display cutlery, you can't actually use it.... you'll be fine!

*smiles sweetly at Hayley*

Lady Augusta, that sounds revolting, doesn't it, to us? Did I read somewhere that it might have been the basis for the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie?Probably wrong.....
