Hi Dee,

We had neighbours in Victoria who had a big, black Newfie. I loved him, but he used to knock me down and lick me. Such lovely dogs!!!!

These kids have the morals of the current generation and now Dex is tainted too, lol. Marilyn is as silly as ever and can't see through Danny. She will hit the ground very hard soon. I'm glad my kids aren't like this, but so many of their friends are.

I wish Romeo and Indi would get their act sorted out as Liam seems to have and an eye for Indi and outside of the show too.

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 20 Jul 2012 14:39

Yes Newfies are very strong and have to be trained at an early age as they do not stay small for long and are just babies with a lot of strength! I'm 5ft tall and have been dragged a few times in the past! Lol.

I think you are ahead of us. We have just seen Bianca asking about her baby and going to see him willingly.

Berona Report 21 Jul 2012 01:35

Yes, Dee - we are ahead but only by a couple of weeks. Your 'lay-off' time is different from ours. We usually watch until Oct-Nov, then a new series starts early in February. This changes things.

As I said before, I cringe when I hear the English language 'butchered', especially when I think of the programme being shown in other countries. Our speech was strained enough before, but we did finish a sentence with "you and me" or start one with "you and I....." - NOT "me and you". Another - "going to" is now pronounced so often as "gunna". I could go on, but suffice to say it can be embarrassing at times. This kind of speech should not be written into scripts, but I really don't think the writers know any better - or the producers, either.

MEgirl Report 21 Jul 2012 08:42

Irene likes to leave the last letter off all her words. To me, that's like nails down the blackboard. I can barely listen - we don't all talk like that, believe me.

Berona

Berona Report 21 Jul 2012 09:49

I should be one of the last ones complaining about our speech but what annoys me is that one of our popular news readers grew up in my street and went to school with my children - and her speech is totally different from what it was when she lived there - because she had elocution lessons! - but also, because the news is written properly (well, most of the time, anyway).

Most of the actors in H&A can speak clearly - but it's what they have to say that brings them down.....again, back to the writers and producers. Strangely, though, the newsreader mentioned above, is with the same Chanel as H&A.
Must be different producers.

I think that what I am trying to say here is that the writers should not only be able to write scripts - they should excel in formal English as well - or at least have a person who does excel in formal English, to edit the scripts before giving them to the actors

Yes, Irene does grate a bit. So does Alf at times. Are they supposed to be from some 'old school'?

Jean (Monmouth) Report 22 Jul 2012 19:55

Poor speech makes me cross too, and I hate words like #gonna' We were taught to speak the Kings english when I was at school. I dont have a lot of tolerance of bad spelling either, or text.
As for the constant hpping in and out of each others beds, it amazes me. We were content with one partner.

Berona

Berona Report 23 Jul 2012 00:41

I know times have changed since I was young, but hopping in and out of different beds is not what I consider a good example to set youngsters and H&A is shown at 7pm here. The story-line is aimed at the young ones too, so what does it tell them? They don't even go on dates first - at most, a juice in the diner is enough to warrant a roll in the hay!

I also think that the poor speech has a lot to do with the poor spelling. People try to spell properly and write a word as it sounds, so if they don't pronounce it properly, their spelling is going to be wrong.

Berona Report 24 Jul 2012 00:26

Oh dear, Marion - you won't see what we saw last night for quite a while then.

Ruby's hair was combed......yes, actually COMBED!!! Parted on the r.h. side, too!. Well, that was in the first part of the episode. Later, it was parted in the centre and pulled back as before, but with two 'bangs' hanging over her face.

My first thought was "new hairdressers?". Even Irene's hair looked better than usual.

MEgirl Report 24 Jul 2012 04:49

I think with Alf and Irene, they have taken the "Dinky Die Aussie" theme too far. I've never had an adult call me "girlie" or bloomin' this and that, not that I'm a spring chicken any more.

The bed hopping is not appropriate for that timeslot. I think a few windows need to be nailed shut!!! Someone needs to catch something - now there's a storyline for safe sex practices.

Gina is clucking too much like a mother hen at the moment, but John's character has bloomed.

Berona Report 24 Jul 2012 08:40

Yes, I agree that Alf's comments are old. "Strewth", "Strike me", etc. were old sayings which were used prior to WW2, and I think the name Sheila was a popular Christian name for girls in England during WW1, where it wasn't known in Australia, so the Aussie soldiers referred to the girls as 'sheilas' - and somehow we had the reputation for calling all girls sheilas until after WW2 was over. New sayings come and go with the times, but these days they are world wide, since the advent of television and quotes from movies became popular.

When I first went to the UK in 1953, I was told "you Aussies all call each other 'mate'" and they thought it was funny. I notice these days that I rarely see a British TV production where they DON'T call each other 'mate'. The Bill was a great one for that.

Heath and Darryl seem to be having a role-reversal. Darryl is about to do a 'job' to get money in order to pay his father off so he'll go away - and Heath is becoming a devoted daddy.

I've never known a show where professionals constantly cross that "line".

Berona

Berona Report 28 Jul 2012 00:17

Can't see it happening in real life. Makes me think the writers have led a very sheldered life. They should get out more.

That's a pity, Marion. Please don't leave us. We will keep you informed (without giving too much away) on whether it is worth watching or not - or what to look out for.

So you didn't see Ruby's hair??? Now, you have to wait (what is it, 6 weeks?) before seeing that a comb has been used!

MarionfromScotland

MarionfromScotland Report 28 Jul 2012 11:19

lol.Yes she might put a comb through it by the time it's on again.
No leaving you, will still be doting around.

Quite a few times i get the Genes error has accurred...so annoying.

MEgirl

MEgirl Report 30 Jul 2012 06:59

Marion I was having that problem with the errors. Has calmed down a lot now and a new computer helped. The other one was ancient.

April and Dex are getting on my nerves - sex mad. Lottie has finally made her decision as to where she is going to live. Hope it's the right one.

How will Brax get out of his current dilemma??

Yes stay with us girls otherwise it will be a lonely 6 weeks or so.

Just pop in and tell us what you're up to. Cheers.

Berona Report 31 Jul 2012 11:12

Hello Barbra - nice to hear from you again. Hope all is well with you.

Heath seems to be going 'soft' - Brax is trying to do one 'job' to get enough money to pay his father to go away (as if!! ONE job??) and Casey is turning from the nice guy to the bad one now. He's working on getting Ruby's money out of her. I don't think there was mention of what she and Charlie inherited when their father died, but now that what Charlie had is Ruby's, she is happy to give it to Romeo to start up a business, so now Casey is joining the queue!

Yes I do wonder why April repeated Year 12 to get better grades in her second attempt at the HSC - so that she can study to be a doctor. She seems to have done less school work than she did last year, so it looks like she is wasting her time. She and Dex now want to move in together.
