Hi Tess
Thankyou
Your right about the flies lol
I think the brooch idea is lovely as thats the most thing he remembered about his sister as he said he can now give her them back after 75 years bless
When we were children we were never allowed to get red shoes bought for us guess it was a painful reminder for my Dad
I hope she likes it I also know he has bought her a gold heart locket which he is going to give her when they part xx:)

I think that you will have a lot of would be flies-on-the-wall at your meeting.

The brooch idea was jsut great. A real one-off for a special brother-sister relationship.

Waves to everyone,

PollyPoppet

I've just read the whole thread, and the newspaper article.
How wonderful that your Dad kept the memory of his little sister throughout his life, and that you and your sister have managed to find her ,and make them both very happy.

It just goes to show, you should never give up!
I hope it all goes really well, there won't be a dry eye in the hotel!

Best wishes, Margot.xx

Oh Polly, have just read the article from the paper and this thread. What a wonderful wonderful story, and the bit about the brooch of red shoes reduced me to tears. This story would make an amazing film. I wish I could see your faces when you are all reunited. I'm sure the room will be filled with love. Have a wonderful time.

Hi Perse ~~~~~
Hi Everyone ~~~~~~~
Aw thanks for all your good wishes I will print this off and take it with me and let Margaret and my Dad read them all
Will let you all know how it goes and I should have a few photos that I will share with you all
Perse ~~~~~~~
I cant wait to see her face when he gives it to her :)
The story about the brooch is that all he could remember about his sister was her name and she had red shoes and was always dancing so he got a brooch made for her and its little red shoe
I still find it hard to believe that we have found her but it just goes to show nothing is impossible with a bit of work and a helping hand you can do it
I hope this encourages others to keep going and to never give up hope
I am so pleased that I did this for my dad I think he now feels he has a family xxxxxxxxxx

What a lovely story.Just read the article.Think I will show it to my neighbour as she had a similar story, and funnily enough lived in the same area as your dad.I found through the help of "Mhairi Queen of Scots" that she had a brother she didn't know about a couple of years younger than her.I even got on to the Salvation Army who would do a search, but she got cold feet in the end. This was about 3 years ago and I was so disappointed that she didn't carry it through.
I'm sure I would have done before it's too late.He would be in his early 70's now.
Have a lovely meet up and how nice we have such good people on here who take it upon themselves to help others. That's what I like about GR.

Hi PP,
I just want to say I am really very pleased for you and your Dad and his sister. It's wonderful news to hear, and especially encouraging for all of us genealogists out here searching our family and family trees, too.
I read the article in the Courier, it was lovely, and I hope the reunion next week goes very well, I am sure it will.
Do come back on here and tell us all about it.

The best of luck.
K
